  1. I've not had an offer on mine yet. I'm asking £85. Inc postage. It's had little use,4 times I think, but it is engraved with my loler number but that can be used by someone else.
  2. Im getting more attached to mine, but my rope is getting more and more oval shaped!
  3. Yes you can stop on red/red but you mustnt expect that to actually work 100% of the time.
  4. The polic are not going to go to the door of the lad that damaged the car! No way, that will never happen I'm sure. They may well go to the estate office where the work was done, and if that estate used a genuine tree company then it would be passed to them and their Public liability insurance. Thats waht PL is for, to protect the client (the estate) from claims from the public. If the estate was carrying out the work with its own workers, and the OP subbed in to help, then someone on the estate will be in charge of this whole thing and they will ultimalty have to sort it out, pay for the damage to the car etc. The only comeback to the lad in question would be that he's not employed much anymore as he's not reliable, so he should have thought of that. Unless the car owner wants to press criminal charges against the lad, (and/or vice versa) the police will likely not be bothered in the slightest anyway.
  5. You are not technically "allowed" to stop traffic completely, stop go boards are for traffice flow, so you stop from one side then the other (like traffic lights) and the traffice goes round your work area. All needs to be fully marked and signed, and even then you cant dent peoples cars! Having said that on single track roads I would do exactly the same as you, except that you need to make sure you system works, which it didnt. So with politeness and diplomacy you can stop the traffic and 99% of the time they understand but when they dont, you can either stop the work and let them through, or put dents in their car (or you could punch them in the face). One of those actions will lead to no further problems, the other two might well come back and bite you, so you make your choice. The only 100% ok alternative is a road closure but I'm not suggesting you should do that. But denting the car of an innocent (agreed knob head) passer by is not good form. Did you have the full road works, traffic control ahead etc etc road signs out, or just a bloke in the road with a stop/go board? But a car gor dented due to your work, so you are in the wrong, hope it sorts itself out.
  6. Yes, I have one for sale. I have just sent pictures to someone else, will see what he says.
  7. Ok, Are you moving to cheltenham area then?

Once you have your barcode you can turn up at any event around the country, so wherever you are on a saturday, no excuses! I'm off out on the bike!

We had a low turn out of 120 today, I came 27th out of that lot so the standard is pretty low!

As its designed to get people out and running, rather than for athletes, you really wouldnt want to be at the back!! We do three laps round the park and by the second time round I'm lapping some fatties in leggins!!
  11. No breakfast for me thanks, I might just pitch up for an hour or so during the day, been meaning to do some rec climbing for a while as it is nice to climb for no real reason! I'll bring the old tat if anyone wants to try it!! Would recomend going high with 20 year old three strand though! But the harness is good enough.

It's not like that really. You just turn up and get on the start line for 9am (8.58) and run. No signing in or faffing with race numbers. At the end you go up to a marshal show your barcode (which you get online ) and get scanned and go home. Avoid the hustle by running fast enough to stay at the front.

    Parkrun

Anyone here doing park run? If you dont know about it, its basically a free 5k run event every saturday, 9am, at about 200 locations around the country. You register online, turn up and run and get scanned at the end. Your time is then texted to you, and an email follows giving your position overall and with your age group etc. Have a look here for your nearest event. parkrun UK The one here in cheltenhma has only been going 5 or 6 weeks so they are quite new and I'm sure more will be starting around the country every week. Its a good start to a weekend, 5k is not too hard. If anyone is doing it then we could have an arbtalk leader board. I'll start with my PB last week which was 22.54
  14. I dont want to interfere here, this is not my thread, and I dont care what people do in their spare time but you cant really be serious about going tree climbing in a sport harness!!?? Tree climbing is work positioning, you should know that from your CS38, and rock harness are not really suitable, you will have a bad day! Mr Worcswuss (sorry dont know your first name) I hope you dont end up running a free training day? I know this is recreational but it is also practice for work, so people should hopefully already know what they are doing rather than relying on teaching from others. Tips and tricks for sure though! I'll come up for a climb if I have time on the day.
  15. They sell at full retail though, so 20% of that still makes them way more expensive than a proper stihl dealer (one that buys direct from stihl). George carr, jonesie, honeys, lister wilder etc etc. Never buy anything except emergency chains etc from countrywide!
  16. Is there anyone available for groundie work next wednesday and maybe thursday (20th -21st March). Chainsaw tickets not essential but handy, but some basic chipping skills required. Might lead to more work but only casual s/e basis.
  17. You've done the right thing, but there is no can or can't where advertising is concerned. Do what you want. But it takes 3-5 years with a tree company to really learn anything. My point was that cs units are only safety Certs they are not instruction on how to do tree work.
  18. Exactly, and who are they? Never seen one in my life. They wont stop anyone making money using a saw unless there is an accident or a complaint. Its only tree work, its not important, and back garden stuff on your own is no risk to anyone except yourself, and if clients are stupid to employ the services of gardeners who did CS30 last week then good luck to them.
  19. Im not saying its right, just saying there is no law. Im all arb approved etc so I do believe in doing things right, always have done always will, but I'm being realistic.
  20. Just advertise and get on with any jobs you get offered that you think you can do. Dont do a windblown tree course unless your employed full time by a company that requires an employee holds a windblown tree ticket! It wont teach you how to deal with windblown trees, its a safety certificate not an education. Get on with it! You'll learn more from your "friend" than you will on any course, and you dont need any of the CS units for your customers beniefit.
  21. I think we (internet collective) decided a long time ago that all you need to be a tree surgeon is a chainsaw and gravity. Of course you also need customers!
  22. Thats about the truth of it. You dont need anything, but start advertising when you only have CS30/31 and you will get no where. Getting customers to believe in you and give you the work in the first place is where you will come unstuck.
