  1. Oops! Didnt it want to do up again?
  2. It doesnt incurr anything, but if they "require" you to have £10M worth of cover than thats fine, and not unusual. Most tree companies have £5M cover I think, some as little as £1M but they all have whatever is required for the contracts they are getting (or trying to get). What it will costs depends on what you are doing, and the value of the work etc. so you'll have to speak to some insurance companies, but yes that does sound about right for the MOD.
  3. Yep. As I said I was bored today! Hydrate properly as part of your day to day life??? Do you mean drink some water now and then? Ok, I'll try that, never thought of it before. Do, you see the point I'm trying to make? I struggle to get round to drinking enough water, so I use a camelbak when its really hot. I drink water out of it when my body tells me to, if I dont I get very thirsty and then have to drink a bit more to catch up. There is no need to dress it up as some important thing that we have only just discovered.
  4. I wait until Tony posts before reading threads like this!!
  5. That is my only real point I'm making. And every animal on the planet knows to drink water when thirsty. My dog manages it, so can I. Thirst casues fatigue, and fatigue can cause accidents, so blame fatigue! My groundie is way more anti marketing BS than me (remember I do own three camelbaks!!!) and he brings water in an old rum bottle. I had to say no to the smirnoff bottle he used to swig from when driving my truck around town, but water in a glass bottle is really nice. So we dont need any of these products, just the water that goes in them, and from the TAP!!! We are not in the third world, we do not ever need to buy water in a plastic bottles. Evian is only french tap water! (probably isnt true but thats how I think of it!)
  6. Yep. pinch of salt in your water can help with that, or a packet of crisps with your lunch will do the same.
  7. I do agree with you, keep drinking, little and often, I do it myself, same as when I'm hungry I eat. I just think the whole "I'm dehydrated" thing is a bit much. Your thirsty, or very very thirsty, and yes that makes you bad at decision making, but its not life or death on the hydration point. If the chainsaw makes it life or death than thats different, if you cut your self because your very very thirsty then its not dehydration thats going to kill you its bleeding, thats a different medical condition. As I said, I use camelbaks for sport and at work, its all good, I dont like getting thirsty.
  8. I might start one about starvation, and how to combat it. Maybe start the night before with about 1000 calories, not all in one go though, maybe some crisps and dips, then a main course, maybe folow that later with something sweet. And dont climb a tree when starving to death, be prepared, maybe a sandwich in a little box to keep with you at all times. I really am annoying today! I'm annoyed with myself for being annoying, BUT it does go to show how brainwashed we all are by marketing companies who bombard us with rubbish about dehydration, and we all think oh yes, thats me, I need to combat this terrible thing. Water comes out of the tap and we know how to drink it, end of problem! Camelbaks are good, but even they have made us think we are all going to die without them. Dont get me wrong though, I have three camelbaks, and about ten different drinks bottles, I hate not having water when doing sports and at work when its hot (not there yet) but I do know I'm not dehydrated, I'm just thirsty and it will get better! Yellow wee is fine, stinky wee maybe closer to mild hangover type of dehydration, still easily solvable with a pint of water.
  9. Nearly did, but I'm too thirsty!!
  10. You wouldnt have been able to do that if you were dehydrated....
  11. Phew, sounds like a close call!
  12. Been for a wee. Calling an ambulance now, good bye world.
  13. Yes, I am bored today!
  14. What so if its ever yellow I'm dying? Losing the battle for what? I agree thirst effects concentration in the same way as hunger does, eat and drink is good, but dont let your self believe there is some kind of battle that you have to prepare for, its not life and death. Another way of thinking about it is this, a hangover is mild dehydration, thats all. So starting work on a hot day with a hangover is probably not good, but even then with some water during the day most will be fine, and with a serious hangover you really wouldnt want to go to work but with a few cups of tea or drinks of water most hangovers dont lead to actuall dehydration requiring medical attention.
  15. Through thirst mate, not dehydration! Like someone said above humans can go a long way without water, but dehydration will occur eventually, if you thirsty have a drink. If we are hungry we are not starving? Same as with water, if we are thirsty we drink, but we are not dying!
  16. Just read some posts above. Oh dear! Stevie did you go to hospital for dehydration? Or just have a drink of water?
  17. I use a small camelbak when its very hot or if I'm really exposed to the sun. A chest strap is required to stop the should straps falling off when climbing around. Not read all this thread so not sure if this has been covered, but remember that Dehydration is a medical condition that requires hospital. Anything before that is just called being thirsty. Theres a lot of BS about letting yourself get dehydrated and that once it happens its too late to correct it etc. its all rubbish. Your not getting dehydrated your just thirsty so you drink, your body will tell you this and you will drink enough. Its all part of the marketing scam that companies use to get us to buy special drinks that replenish this that and the other, its all crap, water will do, and your evening meal will replenish everything else. But yes, use a camelbak or have a bottle on you harness that can be replaced when necessary, and you will work better for it.
  18. Theres a screw on the carb where the fuel line comes in, undo it now and then when the engine is running and it will drain out any water in the carb. Really helps with the running. Thanks to Andy for that tip!!
  19. Halfrauds!!! Nooooh. Support your local bike shop!! Or wiggle!!
  20. Not sure if they are long enough for big shot poles but I use X-large kayak storage bags for roll up signs etc. Made by Ortlieb I think.
  21. I might just remove my post now, if Pauls reading! Nah, it'll be alright!
  22. Thats about all you need to know! We say it with either be alright, or it will probably be alright, either way is fine. If it wont be alright then dont do it!
  23. MBS should be on it, not sure its a legal requirement though so when I say "should" I mean in an ideal world, not "should" as in must have. The SWL is open to your own opinion, it sould be 10%-20% of the MBS, depending on what your doing and what it is. Knowing what the stuff can do is more important than having it written on there and in tree work there are no weights or forces written on any trees so its all a bit pointless IMO.
  24. Yes, you would be able to install that from the ground with a throwline, easy.
  25. "can" or "cannot" You can in the construction industry because thats why they have CIS. (or whatever its called now)
