  1. Did a small aquathon this evening. 750m swim and just under 5Km run, (4.7km I think) was tough, going from swim to run was hard work, usually the bike section of a tri is a good place to get your head together and get the legs working but straight into running was weird. I passed a few poeple at the begining of the run who were throwing up lake water!! Finshed in 34min so probably middle of the feild where I usually am, dont know what the time splits were yet but my running was painful and slow. Swim was mental, biggest mass start I've done and flippin chaos for the first 300m or so.
  2. I've not gone "on a diet" I have simply changed my diet, forever. Much less bread but not cut it out altogether, less beer but again not cut it out. Doing way more excersise though. It would be interesting to see if you (or anyone on here) could lose weight by eating a big breakfast but the same amount of calories through the day as normal. Thats what all the science seems to think is good, and I think there must be some sense in it. I agree about the winter eating thing!! ALthough you simply need more calories in the winter to keep warm. I'm eating salad everyday now but would dream of it in winter!
  3. When I smoked my regime was very similar to yours but since giving up smoking food has become more important but I still really struggled with breakfast and rarely bothered. Last year I changed that habit and now eat a good breakfast. I have lost weight but partly through exercise as well. If you want to lose weight try eating early and at lunchtime and then a lot less in the evening. It might not work but it would be a good experiment.

    026 side cover?

Hi, I found mine but its cracked. Its all there, so it sounds better than yours but its not as good as I had hoped! The crack runs up an inch or two but theres nothing missing, oh except the plastic chian guides inside, theyve gone to a new home already so I hope you still have yours. £10 posted as apposed to £10 plus postage.

    026 side cover?

I might have one, I'll look.
  6. Do you smoke by any chance? You would benefit from breakfast and lunch and then not stuffing yourself "stupid" when you get home. Other than that your plan sounds perfect!!
  7. Personally I think your attitude is fine, and good on you for posting your work and being opne to critism. The only problem is that the time for being creative and putting thought into a job is at the time of quoting. Once the job has been won then the climbers job is to carry out the task as requested. If you changed the spec of one of my jobs in order to get some practice at some other form of pruning then you would not get paid or hired again. I'd have topped it down as requested. Much quicker work I'm sure so (if its fixed price) more profitable and then that makes you a better worker.
  8. No ones seems to have mentioned thats its perfeclty normal to have to set the hitch a bit before you sit back on it. Just ease it up the rope as you put your weight into it and it should grip ok. If course you would hope tha tit grips on it own if you really fell into it, and it should do so, its just the slow application of your weight that it sometimes doesnt like. I am using e2e at the moment for the first time ever!! I splashed out some ££! Really liking it, 90cm 10mm OP tied with a knut, perfect. And no hockles in my rope like I was getting with the VT.
  9. Still need someone on friday. This might well lead to more work for the right person so it should be a good opportunity to show how keen you are.
  10. The rate of pay ia suitable for someone dragging conifer from a to b and not using a saw or chipper. The quicker its done the higher the hourly rate will be.
  11. Still need someone. Someone who can stick to the agreed booking would be good! And its dragging work so if you'd rather be climbing (and have tickets for doing so) dont waste my time pretending you want the work and then changing your mind when something better comes along.
  12. I still have the original of that tent, before "terra nova" they were called Wild Country, and before that they were "winter gear". My flysheet has the wintergear label on it, so its not far off 30years old now. but it has seen better days and the flysheet needs replacing. Terra nova quoted my 260 ish for a new flysheet which I must get round to getting one day.

    Parkrun

I think how many beers you have the night before has more to do with it than weather. Of course hot weather is not so good, but at 9am and only a 5k run its not much of a factor. Chasing Pbs is not the aim, just doing the run is all that matters. My time yesterday was perfectly good, my PB just happened on a better day.

    Parkrun

Yes, 30 seconds "outside" my pb of 22.07

    Parkrun

30 sec below my pb not an improvement.
  16. Did you get paid or where they unhappy? With a crappy tree like that sometimes its just best to do whats asked IMO. Keep the fancy pruning for something that will come out nicley and will be appreciated by its owners and neighbours etc for years to come.
  17. I'd have "topped it down" (whatever that means) if thats what they wanted. Crappy tree anyway. A heavy reduction now and a pollard later followed by a fell. Were they happy with it and did you get paid?

    Parkrun

Did 22.37 at parkrun today, 30secs off my PB.

Lose as much weight as possible, dont think of adding any. IMO opinion weights are for the super fit who need a way of getting fitter, and not for the not quite fit yet, they should just train harder/longer/faster. But Mr chunkymonkey you do whatever is good for you.
  20. Another triathlon done last monday. Swimming very good, biking poor, and running average! Same weekend as tree climbing comp but found the tri easier as the comps drag on for hours and make for a very tiring day.
  21. Results are up on the ISA website, and a link here in the tree climbing comp section. Seems I moved into 17th somehow!!! I think they put Josephine Hedger in with the men and that moved me down one place, not sure how I moved the other place, I was sure I was 15th. Never mind.
  22. I know, it was meant in fun and good spirits. He was very unlucky in the throwline when clearly his skills should have earnt him a lot more points, but the throwline is very tactical, if you hold out for tens you can end up with zero. I had two shots at tens and then went for 5's as I am all too acustomed with zeros. And Im sure he beat me in every other event so a bit of banter wont hurt.
  23. Thanks. At least I beat you in the throwline, but then again so did everybody else! I've sent him a text, he's probably still asleep!
  24. Yep, and same age as my main hero in the climbing world Mr Chisolm, and he drinks a beer now and then too! I know I cant use age as an excuse with those two still doing so well but I have never been anywhere near as gifted as either of them but Beddes for sure is unique. I'm happy to represent the over 40's at the comp! (I think I was the only one??) I have to say though that overall the triathlon was easier, 1 hour 25minutes of moderate to hard excersise compared to best part of ten hours waiting around for 5 events, the hardest of which took me 1minute and 40 something seconds and my heart rate probably hit 200! Took longer to recover from that than the little triathlon, I was in the pub half hour after that!
  25. Oh I see. I looked at my score before I went on the sunday. I had a little traithlon to do on monday so couldnt hang around to see the masters. I was a very average 15th, but got 6th in the rescue which was cool! As the oldest climber at 43 I'm happy to come somewhere in the middle and my 38secs footlock was not far off a PB from 7 years ago so all good! I'll text Ian and see if he can post the full results spreadsheet in the comp section.
