  1. Thats a really funny little setup. Tim at the Cherry wood project in Bath has that crawlers bigger brother. His site is really steep and he has a tracked Fordson major with a 10 ton winch on it he also gets in horses and has a tracked wheelbarrow. Hope your little tractor makes it through the job.
  2. I saw some of the contents demoed at the arb show and thought they were well chosen. Good luck with it.
  3. Excellent help cheers. I made a new fid last night a bit like Jamie's out of a thin coat-hanger and started a new splice. When driving through Westbury today in between jobs we stopped at a Model shop and I got some piano wire. I just made up a new fid out of the piano wire and went to do the final bury on my splice but the fid snapped on the tight loop end. The piano wire is .64mm or .025 wire. Is this the same gauge as the piano wire you are using? Did it snap because the Bend in the end was to tight or just the extra effort involved in burying the end in old rope?
  4. I was inspired by this thread to have a go at a splice on sunday. I had tried once before but the biro I was using as a fid just wasnt up to it. This time I used a bike spoke bent in half. I followed the instructions from the sampson website for 16 strand class 1. The rope I used was an old bit of XTC. I haven't whiped it yet. I have a few questions. How long are your wire fids? It took me about 6 separate burys to complete the bury. I found the tape a real hindrance to performing the bury so was just trapping a bite of the tapered cover in the loop of the fid but every time my fid came out of the bury the end of the cover that I was pulling would come off the fid. I would then have to grab it with some grips to get it out. How do you attatch the bit you are going to bury to the fid ? Im going to get some brand spanking new bits of rope to try on next and make a new fid. Any advice on the fid construction?
  5. Red boots ............. No knickers:001_tt2:
  6. maybe your monitor shrunk
  7. The proclimber waterproof jackets are good but expensive. The one at work is 3+ years old and not a rip or scuff on it. Needs re proofing but it does seem to take to being re waterproofed well.
  8. Go for it. I convinced my boss to have a stall at a fair this year to try to promote the buisness. It didn't generate a huge amount of business but we sold loads of planks and it was good fun. We had a table with lots of tree oddities and cross sections through decayed stems, people were very polite and pretended to be interested. Another local tree company sets up in a supermarket car park after Christmas and chips up Christmas trees. I think this probably generates allot of business.
  9. Im very impressed that you managed to get it all down without damaging the lowering rope by overheating it:thumbup1:
  10. Hi giorgio, Glazzed means the surface of the lowering rope has melted and you leave a little rope on the bollard of the GCRS.
  11. Possibly the hazel nut weevil Curulicio nucum. They make a small hole in the nut.
  12. 9 tonnes. I could do with a rake.
  13. Hi Tommer, will you be hiring out your new kit we have a large takedown coming up soon.
  14. Were going to need one of these on the front to balance the tractor. EV450T oh.... and a roof mounted crane:lol:
  15. I would choose the doubled one rather than the single one. A Factor 1 fall is quite feasable when footlocking and if you are on a static line quite allot of force could be generated.
  16. Finally on arbtalk then Jon:thumbup1:
  17. Very nice work Giorgio! Really good to see some stuff from other countries. You must be very patient to have rigged it down in so many sections. Any ideas of the weights of the pieces you were snatching down. Did the rope get glazzed?
  18. I dont think the Zermatts will last as long as tirrol fighters. Tirrol fighters are excellent on spikes.
  19. My klima airs are just about to have there third sole and have done me two years. I think they have a kevlar shank or thats what the info on them says. The info also says they have a carbon fiber toecap but this is not true as I have a hole in the leather on the toe and the toecap is definatly metal.
  20. Thats fantastic Buzz.
  21. Chav!!!!
  22. Cool:thumbup: I went to see the nationals in 2007 at King alfreds tower. I go back to look at the hedge that all the competitors layed sometimes. My girlfriend found it very boring:001_huh:
