  1. Tidy Rich. I bet its really nice working for lots of different company's.
  2. Cool. Is the yellow fid for the tennex?
  3. Knots in 10mm cord are not to bulky for the hitch climber. I use 10mm sampson prusik cord and really rate it. Its really cheap and lasts forever. Comes out really nice in the wash. It also makes a realy nice footlock prusik.
  4. Hi hamadryad if you get bored take a look at the fungi photo album on my profile page there are quite a few I havent Identified any help would be much appreciated. Will
  5. Very Nice pictures. A fungi A-z would be great, there are some excellent pics on this site.
  6. Not really a problem just dysfunctional tissue. Do you not see this on nearly every oak of a certain age ?
  7. When required. Im a big fan of them for fruit trees.
  8. If it was me I would aim to lay it in the traditional Dorset style which is low and without stakes. It really depends how dense the hedge is but you can probably coppice alot and lay over the top of the stumps. Dont worry to much about keeping the pleachers alive. even if they die you will still get regrowth from the base. I have seen bailer twine, butchers hooks and hazzel hoops used to hold down the pleechers. I think the traditional way is to pin down hazzel hoops with wooden pegs. Dont skimp on the spade work. Lots of the hedges you see layed in Dorset end up with gaps between the pleachers and the bank. I think the idea of laying the hedge low is that the pleechers at the base will root along there length. If you dig out the ditch and pile up soil to the lowest pleacher you should get rooting and end up with a denser more stock proof fence. The rooting should also stabilise the bank.
  9. We have about 7cm in Shaftesbury. I drove about half of the 15 miles to work then my boss phoned and called off the day. My Dad was driving down to Plymouth last night and got stuck on telegraph hill outside Exeter. I think he might have been taken to a rescue centre last night.
  10. I could be wrong but it looks to me like the silver handle on the back of the should be inside the black metal above it. What size rope is it designed for ?
  11. I had a look at one at the Arb show. I think I could find quite a few uses for one.
  12. Have you used mapmaker? Its completly free and you can open drw files in it. It is a pretty fantastic program and if you have the time to learn it you may be able to do what you need with it. Powerpoint has built in vector based drawing tools and these can be used to produce some quite good looking drawings.
  13. Thats some sexy looking kit. If you get the time a review of the kit would be fantastic. Is the ropeman style device attached to the cord on the ascender to lift it? How secure is the cam on the ascender? Can you release the cam on the foot ascender with a flick like you can with a pantain or do you reach and open the cam with your foot? Do the straps slip on the foot ascender if you climb with it on all day?
  14. Its so time consuming to do it on-site with an Alaskan mill. I would think you would get a better profit if you could move and stack up any sawable timber and then get someone in with a woodmizer when you have enough for them to make a day of it.
  15. My workmate lives on the canal in Bradford on Avon and there is a bloke who does firewood who owns a wood that backs on to the canal. Ill see if I can get his number for you. Longleat forestry will also deliver wood to Bradford on avon.
  16. Nice one! Im was doing my cs32 training today with Mr Blake. Hope someone good takes you on
  17. Is the wallmaster rated to 23kn?
  18. The orange knotted cord is to pull on to descend.
  19. I agree Kelly kettles are cool but a bit of a waste of time at work.
  20. Just get out in it and get some jobs done, its quite good fun really. We have been out climbing the snowy trees for the past 2 days and its actually been quite fuN.
  21. With a prussik above it and a second tie in why not?
  22. Excellent tip. Never been shown that before. The fig 8 is an excellent bit of kit. Its great because you can use it to descend a double line and a single line.
  23. Nice pictures. Do you work for the Estate?
  24. Here is the COBRA website which contains installation instructions and information like breaking strains of the different products. pbs baumsicherungsprodukte GmbH - cobra Baumsicherung
  25. Here is an article written on cable bracing systems and how to choose where to install them. http://www.tree-consult.org/images/pdf/eng/BracingISA.pdf In the article it says that synthetic cable bracing systems should not be pre tensioned The article is very good a well worth a read
