  1. Can you eliminate the need for a dynometer in a system like this by taking the pieces off with a step cut at 90 degrees to one of lines then tensioning 1 line to lift the piece. Im just throwing ideas about.
  2. My advice is to go for all leather one peice uppers and a boot with replaceable Vibram soles. If you look after the leather it will last for ever. I have a pair of Zamberlan hiking boots that are 13 years old and still have loads of life left in them. I also have a pair of boreal boots which are 10 years old. I have put loads of miles on these and the soles just dont seem to wear. I was walking on Dartmoor in them 2 days ago and they are still waterproof.
  3. I like it very simple, will give this a go. I will probably use a mailon rather than a caribener to link my DRT system to the line.
  4. Use the Gcrs as a winch to apply the tension to the line.
  5. It must have been a bit like cutting on a crane job. The lump would idealy stay where it was initialy. I think you could have used a Gcrs instead of the chain block winch but having the dynometer in the system looks fantastic. I think most companys would strugle to accurately explain there rigging in terms of the forces involved. Good article.
  6. My boss says we have booked in a good run of work for 2010. I think the work is out there.
  7. If you get your groundie to hold the tail of the rope you are descending with a figure of 8 if you let go he can pull the rope tight to stop you. Its not a fool proof backup and probably unacceptable but worth knowing.
  8. I just use 1 ascender Backed up with a long prussik and a pantain. Very rarely use SRT to access but every time I do I think I should get it out more often. If I need to descend I take of the ascender and put a figure of 8 below the pussik. Your setup looks good John. Do you have a descender for your SRT set up.
  9. Do you think the DMM and Ropeguide pullys would take an XTC factory spliced eye?
  10. Here is a photo of my workmate Matt taken earlier in the year.
  11. They calls it the O rig
  12. Looks good to me.
  13. Buy cheep buy twice. Klima air Tirroll fighters are the best value for money boots but not cheep. Mine are on their 3rd Sole and have done 26 months of climbing. I expect them to last at least another 6 months. I prevously had a pair of Lavahos and they only lasted 6months climbing before the sole split in half.
  14. Mozza and Shrek Have you calculated for having to travel to Cheltenham to do the job?
  15. If you need a review writing I take a size 10:thumbup1:
  16. Phoned the college today to get my tech cert results. Wouldn't give them out over the phone but they agreed to email me them. I passed so I am over the moon.
  17. I just checked in a book I think it is an anchor bend or Anchor hitch.
  18. Your lanyard looks nice Old snake. Very cool.
  19. The ISC Eiger pully I use on my cambium saver has been squealing for a while now. I have been using it for 2 years but it had been used before that and I am not sure how old it is. Should I Oil it or does it need retiring?
  20. Cut of the bark and flog it as fire retardant eco friendly loft insulation. Maybee?
  21. Im sold on my Cinch now. Still using the Roblon cord in it. I find that when letting out the cinch when under load the Roblon feels a bit lumpy. I think this is because the sheath is a bit loose around the core. I think a firmer rope may be better.
  22. A Macrocarpa that someone had previously taken the top out of but not addressed the width. The during photo is from lunch time and we have brought the branches in by about 4 meters on the left. Drop zones were very tight and there was no decent anchor point. To make things worse the had an asbestos path surrounding the house covered in a v.thin skim of concrete, Nothing broken and a reasonable shape. Funny old job really.
