  1. Today's forestry job, felling all trees next to 11kvetch line while it was off. I did close too if not over 200, harvester worked outher side pushing into the wind and another cutter tackled some big ugly spruce.
  2. Isn't John vicory's s wagon mounted chipper so you'd have to forward all the stuff to rd side for him?
  3. Just the most rancid smelling cavity I've found yet in a sycamore!
  4. Was quite reserved, only got what I needed..... Helpful service even if Phil? Had to run up and down the stairs half a dozen times as I remembered what I needed. Must start writing lists!
  5. The bandsaw looks good, not something I've seen before, so mobile! What size will it cut?
  6. For how long Johnny and how bigger chipper as could sort a valtra/botex 570tl and hinzohak 8.400.
  7. Also because they don't fully rely on the engine block block to keep front and back halfs together so are much stronger to take the stress exerted by the cane, or so I've been told and as said take the least moding to make suitable for forestry work.
  8. That's cheap, good tag line if nowt ells.
  9. Get it back to the dealers and get a computer diagnostic as you might find the warranty will Cover it if something was at flat with the saw and not down to fuel flat. Mine was overreving by quite a bit resulting in a nip so new pot and piston, still ran like poo after so new carb, still poo so replacement saw.
  10. Haven't done any milling with aspen yet but have noticed a big difference to how I feel after a day's hedge cutting, no more feeling like I've got a hangover when I get home. I tend to get 50 ltrs at a time which gets a bit of discount and has the benefits of having a stock when needed.
  11. A lot depends on what sort of work you are doing but purchase cost is something like, Pump fuel 5ltr £7.20+ about £1 for 2t oil depending on brand/quality so about £8-9 where aspen is £13-15 depending on quantity but no running back and forth to petrol station, time mixing, risk of stail/low quality fuel damaging saws. Some weeks I can do all week on only 10 ltrs and hundreds of pounds worth of work but if ringing up with the 088/3120 I can do 20ltrs in a day so the difference adds up. Chain oil, bio is about 50% more than mineral unless like some you get it from cash and carry/supermarket at about £1 ltr but again quantity can affect costs. For forestry it would be harder to build the extra cost into the job, arb not so hard and to some customers the environmental benefits come across as a plus to using you + the health benefits to you as a saw opperater. Check out the one reason I use aspen thred for more on this.
  12. I think you do need to tell them the same as if you change the colour of a vehicle. Also insurance company will need to know as you will need a different policy to cover modified vehicles.
  13. Pot piston and seals New diaphragm, fuel pipe to change it over to aspen like all of my newer saws. Was tempted by doing it myself, any make of bits better than outhers?
  14. £250 too repare my ms200 still not sure if it's worth it but don't want a 201 and got a few carving jobs in the spring so keep talking myself in and out of it as have spent so much on saws recently?
  15. Just dipped into this thred and had a good look at robs test results after hitting something in a trunk and propper blunting the 088 and 30" bar. Started with a new 5.5mm stihl file did 1side 8 stroke per tooth, by the time I got half way down 2nd side I had to get a new file as was taking 12-15 strokes to get past the damage, New file back to 8. I did clean the 1st file with old toothbrush to get rid of filings but still skidded hardly removing any mettle. Think I'll be ordering some better files from Rob soon as I think even leading brand name files are becoming a false economy if they don't even last a full sharpen and are only good for a tickle up.
  16. Less than 3 ton as gtw can only be up to 7.5 ton so that's right but a manufacturer speck sheet someone showed me says capable of 5 ton tow but not legal on road nor would I want to try and stop that with drums
  17. Stick a pick up of 1, New thred if you don't want to derail the op's thred any more.
  18. Iy or very few of us would be able to make a living with overloading transits etc with only our tools badly loaded trailers getting towed by vans that haven't got the capacity, mogs running on red doing domestic tree work, tractors shifting timber from arb jobs, it's a minefield trying to get on. Would rather run like I am than put outher road uses at risk for carrying 5qu of chip on a transit and if dvla and vosa are happy who is anyone ells to tell me otherwise and if the powers that be do say no then I'll seek legal advise as to recoup costs due to me opperating as I am under their advise. All it would take is for someone to take a look at the unimog rocks thred at the mogs doing arb or the overloaded thred and a lot of arbtalkers could find a brown envelope on the doormat asking for clarification of use.
  19. All good, had a vosa check and got told to give headlights a wipe as a bit muddy. Bloke was surprised to find white derv in the tank and was expecting red even when I said not.
  20. If not sure what too do and knowone tells you pick up a rake and start tidying. Turn up early. Never tell the boss you know some one who has better gear than him. When the day is finished and you get back to the yard ask if saws need sorting or help needed sorting stuff for next day. Do not turn up looking rough talking about last night's beer as you may get sent home!
  21. In my opinion yes, it's a more all round saw, big enough to fell with, balanced enough to send with and bearable to use up a tree to chog down with. Hope to get to pick my new 1 up next week, just wish they did it with heated handles!
  22. That's the 1, numerically dyslexic aswell
  23. Good ain't it, but just so tempting to forget what you went for and end up with a bag full of shiny things which may happen on Tuesday when I call in
  24. That sounds promising! Always seemed a shame production stopped as such a good purposeful vehicle!
  25. I'd go for a 390 before a 395, much more usable saw and still pull a 28" bar all day or go mad with a 16" for cross cutting. But I do have an 088 and soon to be ported 3120 if I need bigger.
