  1. Don't get me wrong - I love climbing them - but I have to gear up like a storm trooper to be able to breathe! Looks hilarious!
  2. No worries!
  3. London Plane is my absolute nemesis!! Just being near one make me cough and choke and wretch!! no matter what time of year it is I have to work on them with a respirator (not just dust mask!) on!!
  4. Yeah but it would clash with all my other Teufelburger Gear! ? (I will say I got to try a spiderjack with the rope guide at the top a while ago - thought I'd died and gone to heaven!)
  5. Interesting post, I have a 25" on my 461 and was thinking about getting a 20" but not sure I would actually stop and take time to change it over. Thought it might be another reason to buy that 365 I don't really need, could keep 20" on it. Well Let me know dude! it's sitting on a shelf in my Garage!
  6. funny enough I was just looking at buying a pulley saver!
  7. Just been looking on Petzl's website and they verify this! Backing up the prussic device with a Munter hitch tied through a caribiner but I like the idea of a Fig. 8
  8. Just a quick enquiry to see what people do for their secondary attachment when on a stem chogging down? I always used to choker the line and use a prussic but I've always though this was a bit shady! any better solutions? Cheers!
  9. I used to swear by the Vertex but I recently bought an Alveo Vent to try and I must say it's a fair contender - feels like the vertex but light as a feather!
  10. I fitted a 3/8 picco bar and chain on my ms261 an 25" bar on my MS461 and the 20" doesn't get used! 3/8 picco is so good for me on the 261 that I use that pretty much for everything! So let me know if you can use a bar?!
  11. I would recommend the hitch climber simply because it seems to be becoming an industry staple these days. And why not?! straightforward, reliable, versatile and the whole system LOLER'able if you use a hitch cord with eyes!
  12. Happy Hitch? Could you put up a photo if you've got time?
  13. I'd stay away from the V.T if one is new to the H.C system. The Michoacan or distel are simpler to tie with less sit back and are not as tempremental. I've got a fair bit of experience with the hitch climber system - I use it regularly at Norse - the problem was getting it to work reliably on the smaller diameter ropes/prussic of my own equipment.
  14. Was reading the information on Petzl's website about caring for static and semi-static ropes. It says to soak a new rope in water for 24 hours before use to remove manufacturing lubricants and shrink the mantle onto the core better. So I've given this a go with my tachyon and Ocean Polyester Sling as they're very new. Already you can feel a definite greasiness to the water!! Seems like there's quite a bit of that lubricant in the rope! I wonder if that has something to do with this new setup not gripping like the more seasoned ropes and hitches I use at work?!
  15. Cheers I'll try that - also does anyone know where I can get an eye-eye sling in 8mm yale beeline? I used to love that stuff!
  16. Alright guys! I have been playing around with some new (to me!) kit and I need some advice! The thing is, I climb at work on a Hitch Climber setup and it is magnificent but it uses 12.5mm rope and a 10mm ocean polyester eye to eye sling (90cm long). it's nicely broken in and grips every time. My own kit, however consists of 11.5mm tachyon rope and an 8mm eye to eye sling (also 90cm). this is relatively well broken in but doesn't quite grab every time. it's tied with 4 wraps and then 4 braids (mainly to take up the excess). My question is should I really be using a shorter as well as thinner eye-eye sling to improve the grab of the setup or will this be too much? Any advice or experience would be great! Many Thanks!
  17. Yeah I find after the saw fires up you need to leave it just a fraction longer than with my old 200T so that when you blip the throttle to settle revs it doesn't die. This isn't a problem really as the revs at start up are much lower than when the 200T which used to take off!! Oh, and much better fuel economy!
  18. Did many of them get repaired on recall?! I had a close call with that but changed to 3/8" Picco kit before the original clutch ruined everything!
  19. Incidentally - do people generally follow the rule of rotating three chains, changing sprockets with chains etc.? or is it a matter of just changing them when their knackered!
  20. into/onto!

    50 cc saw

Was it an early model of the M - tronic saws?
  22. An old forester told me your saw should feel like its being gently pulled into the wood like its magnetic. Anything less and its not sharp / set correctly (i.e. rakers)

Yeah i had a close call! The original sprocket started to deteriorate so I got a spur sprocket for a while. It was then that Jason at BTS explained the problem with the sprocket surfaces not being hard enough. After that I got the 3/8" kit and have been great! Guess the newest sprockets are harder and the smaller gauge chain less load. Who knows?!

I've had a stihl ms261c-m for two years now and it's fantastic! I put stihl's "tuning kit" (3/8 picco chain, 3/8 sprock and 16" bar) and it really flies!
  25. It's surprising how heavy a bag is needed to get the line moving on rough bark!
