  1. Quite possibly. I doubt all the shit ones got rounded up and disposed of. Mine's been doing ok for two years now but it may be being loaded less because of the lighter chain.
  2. Nah the 260 was alright - didn't they come with a spur sprocket anyway? My brother just had the bits that came off my saw when I put the 3/8 kit on!
  3. Worked alright tho! The sprocket, bar and chain off of mine are still going strong on my bro's 260!
  4. Just to add some balance to this thread. I bought a 261 C-M in 2016 and noticed a bit of pitting on the clutch drum inner surface. Took it to a stihl dealer who was completely transparent about the issue! Explained that the problem stemmed from a batch of rim/spline type clutches which didn't have high enough surface hardness where the bearing fitted. Was given a spur sprocket and told if it was still wobbly then the crank would be replaced under warranty. As it happens this work perfectly in till I swapped the bar/chain for their 3/8 Picco kit and a new clutch which has also worked perfectly. Not sure if there was ever a recall but I never had any complaints about stihl's customer care or the machine!
  5. By the time I'd finished chogging the stem down it was like my saw had been dipped in porridge!!
  6. Hi all! Anyone else found that their saws have got badly fouled up by wet sticky saw chips when cutting dawn redwood?! I cut one down on Saturday and when I went to clean my saws today they were full of pasty, goopy mess. My 461 had jammed solid! I'd be interested to hear any similar experiences!
  7. Seen it referred to as the "oil pump worm" before! how is that cracked?!
  8. I'm a lefty too and I found I got used to it being backwards really quickly - it even seems to drop in better when its backwards!
  9. Sometimes the metal has been in so long and been eaten away so much by the tannins and other chemicals that occur in oak that there's very little left! the staining could be carried up the wood by water/sap movement in the tree.
  10. Hello! I'd really be up for some part time work to supplement my main job! I'm fully qualified with over 10 years experience! I live just outside Great Yarmouth and I have all my own gear! Drop me a message!
  11. Cheers for the heads up!
  12. Alright Dudes?! Has anyone got a dead Stihl 020T that I can salvage the fuel tank assembly off of?! I'm looking at an 020T from 1998 with some repairs to the tank but it really could do with a new one! otherwise the saw is in fairly good condition - would be a shame not to bet able to use it! Many thanks!
  13. In my years climbing I have worked for a few different people and been required to decipher many different signals and gestures used by crews to get attention and explain things while up high or over loud machines etc. I've always wondered if it would be a practical advantage for arborists to leave college (or training to be available from the same sources as our qualifications) knowing at least a working level of something like British sign language so they can communicate more comprehensively and with no misunderstanding. In the long run would this not be more economic and robust an approach then having more bits and pieces like radios and headsets involved while aloft?! Your thoughts would be appreciated!
  14. Hello! Does anyone know how I can get qualified to splice ropes? I would really love to be able to splice my own ropes and slings for rigging so I can have them just how I want but also correct and certified! Can anyone point me in the right direction for this please?! Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
  15. Why is it o hard to get hold of big Split-tails or multis slings at the moment? nobody seems to have much in stock! What's happened to Yale too?
  16. What's worked for me has always been a nice long prussic loop so I can use the power in my arms at full reach and thrust up without running out of space! often people have to short a hitch set up because they think it'll be hard to reach when limb-walking but that's rarely the case all you're doing is cramping your own movements!
  17. Keep with it dude! I had that when I started - my arms used to be bright pink at the end of a day climbing and when I went down the pub I had to hold a pint glass with both hands!! It gets easier as your muscles develop and your grip strength improves. Many people become deterred at your stage and are temped by the gadgets but what really helped me was sticking with a relatively basic set of equipment for a while to improve strength and stamina so that when you do upgrade you really appreciate the advantage! Also, if you're well versed in climbing on more elementary equipment it'll be much less stressful in an emergency when you potentially have to climb on whatever's available to get someone down!
  18. Pretty standard setup as far as my experience goes. The angle of the rope from the centre pulley to your redirect and the amount of rope in the system can help to dissipate some of the dynamic loading when a block is dropped.
  19. That's primarily why I have them like that really. I had a fuel spout ping off on the way in my car! Really trippy journey home with the car full of fumes! If I've got enough space where they're not going to get knocked or they're on the back of a vehicle I don't bother.
  20. Walbro had an article about the effects of pump fuel with a high ethanol content degrading carburettor parts over time. you could replace their rubber diaphragms with a plastic membrane to deal with the fuel. I would guess it's the Ethanol and probably water in budget fuel that causes aggro in the carb.
  21. You might want to check the recoil spring isn't buggered up! sometimes they get all in a muddle when they get knocked - Stihl 260's used to do it all the time - you had to bash the casing with a combi spanner till they wound in again! might be worth getting the flywheel side casing off, disassembling and cleaning the recoil mechanism and rewinding the spring back in. not a hard job but would be easier if you had 4 thumbs!!
  22. I've been rumbled! in my defence that's quite a new can but not far off the chainsaw shaped outlines on the walls etc.! ?
  23. What's that like for weight compared to the 150s?
