  1. Seems a bit pointless warming up on small stuff - I normally have a bit of a stretch if i'm climbing bigger trees or doing fiddly branch walks. Dismantling trees doesn't seem to have the same impact on me coz i'm spreading the load evenly over arms/legs/body etc due to the addition of spikes.
  2. Good to hear a few of you have gone for the freebie trial - hopefully we'll get a good idea of it in a week or so?! I like the idea of it being eco friendly and cost effective - bit scary if it freezes tho!
  3. Any one had a look at or tried out this stuff from Oregon. It's chain oil but you dilute one litre of it into four litres of water! sounds wierd but Oregon give it a good write-up! Verdict's out - lets hear your opinions?! By the way, you can get a free sample from http://www.oregonchain.eu/
  4. Coz of the distance I drive to work, i change into my CS trousers just before starting work and then change back into my jeans straigh after. I hate driving/walking about in the wretched things!
  5. Chuck me in too please Steve!!
  6. I agree - can be tricky working in tandem unless you know your collegue well
  7. If you had the space to hunk off a big chunk like that how come you couldn't fell it? Not a criticism, just wondered? Fantastic action shot chap!!
  8. Mate what material are the TreeMotion Saddles made from? Looks like some kind of vinyl - does that seem to stand up to the punishment of treework?
  9. Plus good dollop of graphite powder crammed into the sleeve and around the hinge and springs of the Karabiner makes them work like silk! because the graphite is dry it doesn't attract dirt and they stay smooth for ages too!
  10. You caught me! Aren't you soo clever! I'm just a second bod at the mo - helping the tutors as they instruct people doing their chainsaw/felling and climbing tickets.
  11. Yeah! I'd have asked her to show me how to sharpen mine!!
  12. Never mind - pity though - I recon that could be a good saw if Stihl had decided to streamline their toppers a bit!
  13. Mate that would be ace! I do some instructing at Otley College and that would be proper handy!!
  14. I was talking to a collegue today who mentioned that he'd seen a new top handled saw by stihl with some similar design traits of the Husq 335/338XPT models (e.g. more of a teardrop shape, carb/filter at front etc). I'd be interested to know if anyone else has seen/heard about any new Stihl developments?

    engine firing

That was by boss' crappy saw - my husky topper was being used by our new climber. Check my other profile picture!
  16. May I ask what your qualifications include?

    big bob

Splitting hairs i think! mind you huskies usually have a slightly higher power output than a stihl of equivelant engine cc. For example my Husq 357XP puts out 3.2kW whereas Stihl 290 does 3.0kW. They're both 56.5cc
  18. A nifty trick if you're having carb probs is to seach on ebay for the relavent carb for your saw and import it from america. Some legislation means that they can't have adjustable carbs in machine tools (or something like that any way!!) which means there are loads of perfectly servicable new carbs knocking about dirt cheap!! any future carb problems and i'm gonna just whack a whole new sucker in for 15 dollars! did it with my old 335XPT - works better than ever!
  19. It seems ironic to me that one minute i'm reading posts about using more 2-stroke oil and the other i'm reading posts about saws having carb problems. Could the two be connected?!
  20. I was in the process of starting work with a local company (for whom i've spent over 2 succesful year working with) and a few days before my first week's work a guy sidled up to a collegue in the pub and said that my boss shouldn't employ me and that i was too lazy! That particular collegue happened to be my Brother - who promptly turned around and lamped the feller!! That's what big bro's are for eh?!
  21. I Climb on a Cresto Sky-D harness - It's like working from my sofa!! Loverley!!!
  22. I think i would go down the target prune route. Perhaps a bit of a crown clean and reduction to get the weight off (as advised in combination with bracing). The tree would more likeley compartment the wound. suppose it would be prudent to keep the tree under observation thereafter. I think mediating with the neighbour as best as possible would make things a lot easier.
  23. Usually the preferred method for us is Post/Hand deliver an invoice. Don't know if anyone else has done it but one method I have tried is to make use of my PayPal account to request payment by Email. The customer can use their Paypal account, credit or debit card to transfer funds straight to my account. Fast, Simple and Secure! As i say - only tried it once on a moderate amount but it worked ok!
