  1. One thing which can help. Change. Change your circumstances, situation, direction, get a new look look, haircut, shoes because when you are down you stare at your shoes alot. Close down, move away, start afresh, get shot of toxic relationships, downsize, move dead in the water kit, old ideas, staff who don't make your life easy. Change. It was rather traumatic and nearly killed me but I'm through the otherside now. Stuart
  2. Looking at fitting these: https://leafsprings.co.uk/product/iveco-daily-35c-40c-45c-50c-xhd/ Boing Boing! Should I go for the heavy duty front spring at the same time? I'll fit heavy duty gas shocks too and change all the rubber mounts. Any other parts I should look at whilst this is being done? Stuart
  3. A surfit of Sparassus crispa in a large garden within the Rennes ringroad and soon to be absorbed by development. This park is rich in fungi and I'll miss my visits after the bulldozers have done their work... Stuart
  4. I live in a satellite town for the capital of Brittany Rennes just off the 4 lane A84 and use the ring road several times a week. Many of the routes out of town are mad commuter rat runs. Sometimes it is 'Gendarme-a-rama' on the motorway junctions. I got caught once, once was enough, it was a flagrant violation of the weight limit being 900kg over. I'm more carefull these days, I do it after dark... No, really, my tipping unit is becoming tired with holes appearing in the floor. It has folddown steel sides and back worthy of a German King Tiger and so as I cannot afford a new truck for a couple of years I thought I'd boost the suspension, uprated tyres and see if I can stretch to a better, lighter tipping unit in the meantime. Stuart
  5. I need a lighter climber. He is the straw breaking the Iveco's back lol! Stuart
  6. Update on the 150P 31hours and 142 m3 of chip produced to date. 140litres of petrol used so almost 1litre per m3 of chip. I don't leave it running for long but make a small stack then chip. Stuart
  7. I see this cut in almost every French hedgerow... Stuart
  8. How about installing a remote control winch in the van? Far less expensive than a self propelled chipper. Stuart
  9. Hello, This one is for the retailers of Aspen. I need to know just what the vegetable oils in Aspen chain oil are and their source. 'Bit of a rumour flying around that Iceland is not stocking Aspen chainoil' I hope this is not because it is made from rendered down Orangutans... In a senior moment I topped up the fuel with Aspen chain oil, swilled out the fuel tank and refilled. A little smokey with a distinct smell of grilled fish... weird. Stuart
  10. Hello, Does the hive mind know the approx weights of a modern alloy sided tipping unit such as mounted on factory spec tippers? Also typical weights of full alloy arb bodie I'm sure I've asked this before but damned if I remember the responses. Many thanks Stuart
  11. Got a Bandit Beast in the yard of the company I use but access is the issue.
  12. How effective are forestry mulchers on stumps? As against stumpgrinders... Stuart
  13. I've already quoted for stumps to be dug out with a 25t 360 and arranged in a long habitat pile. Trouble is I'm dealing with a couple and they are not reading from the same script. The biomass chipper can't deal with the stumps. They would need to be broken up to remove the soil and decrease the volume before being removed some 25km to a depot where a Bandit Beast awaits. The Beast cannot access the work site though. The cost implication of removing the stumps from site is prohibitive.
  14. Hello, In compliment with a bio-mass job I've been asked to quote for, I need to remove the stumps. My wee fsi20b is a gallant machine but faced with 6000m2 and some 400+ stumps it would be the 8th level of hell. The stumps will be from trees no larger than 35cm dbh and most at 25cm dbh. A mix of Douglas, bird cherry and red oak. Lots of brash underfoot too. So before I go off calling up firms and making rendevous, I need to know what I am looking for. My question is, how large a mulcher in hp is required to effectively deal with the stumps in situ? Thanks in advance Stuart
  15. I use Aspen fuel and bio-oil in my small saws and hedgecutters. The Magnum 700 blower and 084 are just too thirsty. True for me, the reek of others variants on the 2 stroke theme makes it uncomfortable to use others saws, cutters and fuel. (Such a diva am I) Stuart
  16. I had one veeerrrry similar called a Woodstar bought in France for €89. I've a Woodstar top handle too. The groundsaw felt good in use, I liked the feel, the engine note and I knew it would get better after a couple of tanks had run through it. I thought it a real bargain for the 20min it ran although not as powerfull as the Stihl 261c I was used too, then it just stopped, never to light up again. I took it back having emptied the Aspen out first and exchanged it for another which I couldn't even get to turn over! I'm saving for a Stihl 500i now... One point I will make. These low priced saws do consume more fuel than the pro saws. My Chinesium top handle consumption is at least double that of a Stihl 150 for similar power. Stuart
  17. Here: https://www.honeybros.com/Item/FTC_Micro_Cylinder Any one use this or have an opinion on it or it's big brother? I'm doing quite a few smaller jobs with Mrs Lee but want to introduce her to some simple lowering. A small bollard will be far easier for her to use than a capstan. Regards Stuart
  18. You are unlikely to get a reply from a Frenchman. They are generally insular, suspicious and inward looking although I have some rare Anglo-phones within my circle of French friends. Customers are not kings but cows to be milked. If you want one, I'll buy and ship one to you if your Father doesn't come up trumps. Stuart
  19. Here: http://combourg-motoculture.fr/tronconneuses/423-husqvarna-tronconneuse-thermique-professionnelle.html 50km North of Rennes, South of Mont St Michel
  20. I think my local dealers Jardiman and Massé both stock these. It will be at least a week before I can get to a dealer. Regards Stuart
  21. Been alot of chat about the new Stihl 500i on French Arb FB pages. 500 have been released to select dealers but very little info otherwise. Prices? Specs? Full release dates? My 2009 441 is becoming tired so I might hold off replacing it if there is a real chance of the 500i being available soon. Stuart
  22. Client sent me these. I spotted the vestiges of fungi last Autumn at the base of a 35+m poplar which is being used as one of 4 supports for a large cabin mounted some 4m off the ground. If... this is Armillaria sp. I will propose a staged reduction over the next few years to reduce leverage. Something else I'd like to try is to let the climber use spikes in Springtime and treat the wounds with rooting hormone. The tree is coming down anyway in time and perhaps the spike wounds might generate some new growth? I notice poplar sometimes developes a thick roll of cork cambium around the wound after the main stem has been felled and from this new shoots grow. Mad to try that out? Stuart
  23. Am I looking at mature Sulphur tuft here? Damn they look like Chanterelles. Stuart
  24. Chipper lights work fine on other vehicules though and there is a dash board yellow warning light permanently on merdre alors...
