  1. Hello, That is quite awful. Did these guys leave a flyer and if so, does it mention "magnolias a speciality" and something about "Winter washes"...? Stuart
  2. And so... From the 15th March until 31st July or 15th August, French farmers are forbidden to cut their hedges. I assume something similar exists in the UK? Now, restrictions are begining to be extended to the public by individual departments (counties to you) The Vosges, Haute Marne, L'Oise and the Alsacian regions have all extended the ban and it is a certainty that many others will do so over the following years. In areas of Belgium the ban extends to trees leaving arb guys with the choice of running the risk of a fine (enforcement is patchy) The work I did for my own commune (council) had to be completed by the 15th March even though there was little likelihood of birds nesting and no evidence of prior nests. There are some exceptions to the rules of course. Trees requiring removal for projects, urgent works etc. In effect, it is likely that in a few years our viable working period will much reduced to 6/7 months. Filling those months whilst our harness gathers dust could prove difficult especially if your business has employees and finance. A smug ecologist informed me it was none of his concern and I could go stack shelves in Lidl for all he cared. He added that other plans include restricting grass cutting times, banning leaf blowers (enforced in Switzerland for half the year) and even chippers where possible due to the noise pollution. Green waste to be taken to a tip and processed there. I guess as the UK has cut itself adrift from Brussels, Brit arbs might remain immune from all this. Stuart
  3. I was at the Chichester boys club where he was a leader. We first met on cycling events and later he'd call into the shop I worked at for a cup of tea and a chat, heavy with the smell of the nights charcoal burn. Nothing but fond memories of an amazing character.
  4. Yeh, I'm still hoping to keep a couple of subby climbers on the boil. Not many sketchy pops under 18m eh?😆
  5. Thanks, I appreciate your reply. I've already made contact with this dealer near Amsterdam and got some prices. Cmc S19N Spinhoogwerker, 2022, Moerbeke, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgique - d'occasion nacelles articulées - Mascus France WWW.MASCUS.FR S19N Spinhoogwerker à vendre - Belgique - , Hauteur de travail: 1 890 cm, Type: Diesel, Déport horizontal maxi:...
  6. O.K, I have another question, "what tracked mewps in the 18/19m range are to be avoided?"
  7. I confess I'm not enjoying perusing the internet looking at then enquiring after machines. Available mewps in my price range are spread far and wide, Italy, Germany, low countries with very few in France. Does anyone have experience of the Easy Lift 18 and 19 models? I was wondering about the differences other than a mere metre. Also, what length plant trailer would be best? Cheers Stuart
  8. Thank you, I appreciate the thought. I had a look at the spec just now. Being so new I think the customs charges might largely offset any gain in buying used. (Not made in the U.K so subject to probably 10% or more customs + transport fees) Also, it is one thing bringing over a 12k chipper then suffering a myriad of irritating defects but quite another to throw a significantly larger sum at almost new kit without the reassurance of technical backup and warranty. I'll not be able to just go out and buy another if it goes properly wrong. The last thing I'd want to then do is air my grief on Arbtalk and suffer the back lash... So we are looking at new or nearly new closer to home. This is driven by the desire to reduce our dependancy on capricious, often unreliable subby climbers whilst keeping me 'in the game' for along as possible without ruining my body.
  9. I have just recieved a quote for one. 93k euros plus tva (vat) with tracks, 3 speeds and large pads for feet. 9500 for a dedicated trailer. 5600 for radio control though I don't know how usefull that is.
  10. Thanks. Gorgeous and €10k! Is that a with vat or without price? Stuart
  11. I have seen a 2011 Hinowa 2312 for sale with 625 hours but it weighs 3010kg Are there are any suitable trailers under 500kg? Cheers Stuart
  12. Perhaps if people had more room behind their sheds, we could leave more brash. A Gypsy Tree King tried and trusted method.
  13. Yeh, what is up with a sheet or robust paper bag...? Or even a old 12" Bandit...?
  14. That Jo-Beau Gorilla just needs an expanding (widening) infeed chute to become a game changer.
  15. I know over 500kg requires registration and insurance so must conform to official standards as a vehicule but under, no reg and covered by car insurance. Before Brexit, many chippers including GM and Bandit were removed from the original axles and installed on axles that conformed to French norms 'NF' like the UK 'CE' mark.
  16. What do you think a set of unbraked might cost? I have a generic 22t splitter I lend out to clients and tow behind the car. I do worry about the bearings but keep to under 70kph The local engineering shop could sort that out for me.
  17. TBH, my last purchase of 1/4 1.1mm chain is from Rob. It is just that I feel the Panther chains are not quite as smooth from new as the Stihl or Oregon. I tried a new chain on a subbies 150 and two of my colleagues think the same after trying my Echo/Panther chain set up. Shit, it is subtle but I thought I'd ask anyway. Not a game changing difference nor a deal breaker. Stuart
  18. Hello, I'm running two Echo 2511, one has the standard 1.3mm the other 1.1mm Panther chain. I'd like to re-order some chains but either Oregon micro-lite or Stihl micro-picco. Are there any stores that make these chains up off the roll? I need 68 links which is a none standard size. Cheers Stuart
  19. Some-one mention Call of Duty? Video Games Helped Ukrainian Bradley Gunner Win Duel With Russian T-90M Tank WWW.TWZ.COM The gunner and driver of the Bradley seen in a wild battle with a Russian T-90M tank captured in a viral video explain how it went down. t-90+tank+destroyed+by+bradley+tank+Call+of+duty - Recherche Google WWW.GOOGLE.CO.UK
  20. Not sure about the colour... (Walks around it kicking the tracks) I'll need to see if Bear Valley do a T'shirt that co-ordinates first...
  21. Searching the subject and found this 2010 thread. Currently having an online discussion/dispute on a gardening page about this subject. A 74 year old man felt sick after cutting a laurel hedge and his wife believes he was poisoned by the laurel. I caused uproar by suggesting it was nothing more than a combination of old age, sun, heat, fatigue and 2 stroke fumes. I've never personally felt any ill effects from cutting or chipping laurel that itself couldn't be attributed to the effort demanded by the job. Stuart
  22. At 180 hours over 5 years I need to replace the springs again. Has any-one else found this or is it just another thing unique to me? I assume the clutch is generic and is used on a variety of machines. The springs are larger than chainsaw clutch one and 14 euros each so although individually expensive, still really nothing in the greater scheme of things. Stuart
  23. I share that feeling with you though it's a different flavour machine.
  24. On Arbtalk FB, the Gypsy Tree King (Shane Smith) was quite insistent that his subjects don't steal and that he has helped return many a stolen chipper to it's owner which rather conradicts his claim that gypsies don't steal...
