  1. Why do the tappets need checking so often and why does the engine require plugging in so often when others don't? I just don't get it, the Efi Briggs approved dealer network is incredibly thin on the ground and the two I used were utterly incompetent. How can Briggs sell a product that has such a limited dealer back up? Only Stellantis and Ford have a worse reputation for shonky engines.
  2. Is this just the first year or every year? In France, larger CO2 emitting engines are taxed at first registration capped at €60k for 194g of CO2 per km This has effectively crushed sales of pickups. The Ford Bronco which sells here for €74k has a €60k registration tax. Doesn't yet apply to commercial vehicles.
  3. I'd be interested to know who has serious hours on their Vanguard Efi engines.
  4. Not rising to it, not today...🙈🙉🙊
  5. Teeffff, it's all in the teeffff..! With sharp teeth, and brisk light passes 14hp is enough to demolish even large stumps. You need teeth with a good cutting edge as there is no weight and little torque to work with. Teeth for the FSI are very reasonable from QRMS, certainly not worth sharpening.

I noticed that having a woman in the team changes the behaviour of the 'boys' and her presence is appreciated by clients, especially other women. I would dearly love to have a female apprentice but Alex is a pretty boy so next best thing.
  7. I am reluctant to impose on him as I will buy the parts in Europe.
  8. They are all the same, not a repair. Truly I am without wisdom on this subject. Maybe I'll just buy another set of hammers. I rarely use the flail as it is. During COVID it saw more action with Brits and some French being unable to travel over and their gardens and growing wild as a result.
  9. Do you think that the rotor is incompatible with the Y cutters?
  10. @Conor Wright Yes! Looks to be the thing. Thank you.
  11. Over the last 5 years my average 'mileage' in the truck is 6500 post Brexit non-European miles (10'400kms) In fact the number of short runs has been a problem for my EGR as the manifold kept blocking up, now blanked off and trouble free. Here in French land it seems the regs are less onerous. No O licence required and the checks are 6 monthly.
  12. I'm in France.
  13. Hello, I'm looking for advice as this is a subject I know very little about. Image is of my current set up. I've a Del Morino 106 Centurion flail for my Solis 26. I'm intending to change the hammers for the Y shape flails as I'm not satisfied with the performance overall having been used to Y shape on previous machines. I also find the hammers vulnerable to blunting quickly. On the rotor, the space for the head of the hammers is 40mm. I guess the two flails back to back take up less than 10mm so the spacers (Entretoise in French) each side ought to be 20mm leaving some play? The bolt is a 12mm so should I order spacers with a 12.5mm hole? Advice gratefully received. Stuart.
  14. Put them firmly in the "Too fat to fly" list...
  15. I'm due a new truck in 2025 and am looking to escape the 3.5t trap. I run overloaded for about 30min most days and whilst that might not seem much it would salve my conscience to be legal for that short drive. So taking advantage of a rainy day, I visited Man trucks this week. Looked at the 5t tippers they had lined up ready for a telecoms company. They do a 5.5t as well which is weird and I asked the difference between the two. Dealer doesn't know, not sold a 5.5t yet but the price jumps by around 5k These are basically VW Crafters rebranded and also seem similar to the Mercedes Sprinter. Good ground clearance unlike the Isuzu/Fuso trucks, lot's of under seat storage, fancy tablet, reversing camera, tool pod, cone carrier, side tool boxes. 2 litre engine 163hp twin turbo. Any thoughts on these? Waiting on prices now.
  16. In France, the Ford Raptor sells for €45k but has an eco purchase tax of €60k due to it's high CO2 rating. The government has effectively killed large or performance engine ownership for all but the rich.
  17. Does that include vehicles on a lease?
  18. Some close ups of a colleagues chip box on his Fuso. Stainless frame, aluminium sheet and stainless roof flap. Not sure why it's external. Ingenious tool locker security bar that requires the chip box to be lifted slightly for access.
  19. On a brief half term visit to my family in Emsworth. Took a walk with my kids down to the harbour and witnessed this incredible scene. The harbour at times is filled with hundreds of swans which is quite a spectacle but this is something I have never seen. VID_20241030_110636.mp4
  20. I'm trying to find out prices for the intermediate tonnages. When Nissan still imported their little tipper, the 4.5t option was a mere 1500 euros more. Given the 3.5t Fuso is reputed to be the 6t, I would like to know the price difference but the dealers are not interested in telling me. So far, I've a price for a Canter 7.5t chassis cab without tipping unit 53k euro money I think the dealer is taking the piss TBH I could buy a 9t Canter tipper complete from Poland for less. Iveco with tool box and tipping unit I've been verbally told is over 70k Dealers are just weird to deal with here, as though they are not interested in selling a single truck. In the end, I may just go for another 3.5t and helper springs.
  21. If I use the truck for my own work carrying tools and only the waste I generate then no operators licence required 'FIMO' However, if I use it to resell logs or chip then I do need one.
  22. Ford just got back to me but not with a quote. The truck doesn't exist as a stock item anywhere in France and has a delay of 12 months once ordered. So that hash is settled.
  23. I can see me parked in front of the dealers front door, chip box raised whilst shouting "ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE ME A F*****G QUOTE?"
  24. We took the route via Salamanca as it offered more scenic diversions. Sailed from Algeciras. Next time, we'll take far longer about it and properly research places to visit in Spain. It's a jaw dropping country off the beaten track. I also need to take a better gravel bike to Morocco in order to better acomplish my cycling desires.
  25. We drove through Spain on the way to and from Moroccistan this Summer and stayed in Taro, Rioja region on night. It looked the kind of landscape I could live in. I know the Asturias from my youth, several trips cycle camping having taken the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander. The two years of Spanish was written over by French and for a while, when drunk; I confused the two and spoke a weird Euro jibberish, much like I do now on the phone to truck dealers it seems.
