  1. He's in France... Stuart
  2. I'm quite put off by cheap bar and chain deals like those Kox.eu offer. The bars may come with 4 or 5 chains but my bars only seem to last 2-3 chains before wearing renders them useless. I'm using Aspen chain oil which I have done since 2011. This might be a element in the wear factor on larger bars and so will turn up the oilers to max on all saws. So, I've taken the plunge and ordered 2 Sugihara bars from Rob in the hope they really are worth the Yen. However now I see this German site pricing is much lower than Rob's...meh! One Sugi bar is almost as much as one Kox bar and 5 chains! Stuart
  3. If you have friends in the E.U then try ordering a pair of Extreme air light. An utter revelation for me having previously abandoned chainsaw pants during the long French summer months for tough walking trousers. Massive rear leg zips and light fabrics. 3 levels of robustness, I have the 2 models at either end and think them both excellent. Kox don't sell direct to the post Brexit U.K though. https://m.kox24.fr/Pantalon-de-protection-anti-coupures/Pantalon-anti-coupures-X-treme-Light
  4. I did too whilst on practicals at Merrist Wood. Stuart
  5. Although many of my clients are sure it is just to block light from patios and throw leaves 'n' shit into their gutters...lol. Stuart
  6. Relax, you've not killed off the potential, just not bagged a few clients. They are all still out there, new ones will call, the ones you've missed forgotten about. As a backup, you could run 2 numbers though. People not getting through on one might try the other. I often had this with people called my business partner. (The down side was that as he would not communicate with me we often arranged to quote twice over. How clients didn't twig we we're the same business is beyond my ken...) Stuart
  7. From the man who has fitted a 60cm log capacity wood boiler... You are right though. Short logs are going to dry faster in this climate. Stuart
  8. Hello, I have read a few posts on this side of the forum about air dried firewood. Certainly most of the hardwood punted out in Brittany by small scale sellers is high in moisture and requires further seasoning. In reality, air dried is likely to achieve what level of humidity in the U.K? (Wales similar climate to West Brittany) Is 15% achievable without a kiln? Stuart
  9. You have the right to a 1m band in order to maintain your property. A bit difficult when sheds, borders, landscaping features get in the way of that. Then the branches also overhang by 'X' number of metres... Plenty of awkward people who delight in the sport. Stuart
  10. Thank you for your response. In fact here in France the owner must undertake the work themselves at the request of the neighbour. No choice, goes legal very quickly here and in fact, often people don't even talk to the neighbour but go straight for the throat, Notaires (solicitor) letter delivered by Huissier (bailiff) The French can be very strange that way. Stuart
  11. If you will imagine, a leylandii windbreak of some 10-12m in height. Neighbour wishes to remove all branches over his border. Owner argues this will destabilise the trees and they will fall over as a result. Now this is a regular situation for me. However, I need to bone up on the pro's and con's of this. I have yet to see a row of trees fall over after recieving this treatment but I'm happy to be educated. Help me out here could you? Regards Stuart
  12. Even a Frenchman could have done better! Maybe... Stuart
  13. I'm off to get a quote for a Grillo dumper. They do one with a pto to which you can attach a flail mower which might be a usefull tool or it might just be a gimmick. They have 3 reverse and 4 forward gears. I'll try to get a day long demo beforehand. I'll be using it to tow the chipper 'hors piste' as well as moving logs. Stuart
  14. Yes, I've several clients with the same letter. Email me: [email protected] I'm out quoting tomorrow Wednesday 30th and could fit your parents in early afternoon. Regards Stuart
  15. Raising this topic again as I am thinking of changing from Meindl to Andrews because I fancy a change rather than any issue with Meindl. How do the Andrews fit against the Airstream? My Airstreams generally last 18months. I could squeeze 24 months out of them if pushed by poverty. I see fellow arbs taking their boots to extremes of wear with slick or flappy soles and massive sawdust filled splits wearing them as badges of pride. Besides, that sock and boot feeling, whats not to like? Stuart
  16. We've a CS100 with over 300 hrs (tacho fitted) Stuart
  17. Lumag, GTM or Wee-Wang industries, anyone actually REALLY used one in anger for years on end, hundreds of hours? It would be interesting to hear from those owners. Stuart
  18. Risk too, if the company had problems, you might lose your capital before the debt is repaid. Stuart
  19. In 2014 I loaned our ltd company some €20k for equipment which it re-paid within a year or so. The accountant bawled at us for not leasing the kit on the grounds of tax efficiency. TBH, buying the kit was a gamble which paid off, yet at the time we thought we where up to our credit limit with the banks which is why I injected funds. Stuart
  20. You should consider a career in accountancy...lol! Stuart
  21. I recieved a written warning from Spud last night. It was worse that a fellow arbtalker pointing out a peg you left... As I really want to stay on the right side of him I'm reviewing my future saw cleaning regime. Though I hope my wife won't shout about the ring of filth around the bath... Stuart
  22. Name and shame, name and shame, you know you want too.. lol! Stuart
  23. Hah, the videos were of the 31-110 and the very worst appears to have gone. It showed the operator trying hard to control the machine as it tracked through a woodland, almost comical if it wasn't so 'dangerous' Stuart
  24. Although the machine looks interesting, the Youtube videos of it do not inspire... It's compact nature would suit me, working out of a wee garage joined to my house yet it looks both slow and cumbersome especially tracking off road. Stuart
