We recently lost a large roadside Lawson removal job to a local weekend wood warrior. I cycled past on a Sunday (making a noise forbidden here on Sundays) and saw this chap with zero ppe, fag in mouth, back cut only no gob and a mini digger working from the road (no cones, signs etc) pushing the trees back over into the garden. Machine driven by his missus holding a toddler with Downs syndrome on her knee. Just as I stopped the tree he was felling got swung around almost 180 degrees by a combination of the felling cut, the machine bucket slipping off due to the toddler screaming and wriggling as well as the vines which had grown up into it and its neighbours. The tree crashed down blocking the road and trapping the guidebar of this blokes saw bending it like Beckham. As it was his only saw (a top handle by the way) the tree could only be moved a little but enough to let cars by with a scratch or two. Wood warrior then sat down on the kerb whilst his wife handed him a bottle of Muscadet. Sadly, being a Sunday cycle and my one moment of utter peace I didn't have my mobile on me with which to film it all. Ty

Hello, Our machine has a wee dribble underneath coming from underneath (a bit like our semi-retired groundy) around the area of the roller motor but I just can't work out from where exactly. So I'm considering pressure washing the machine to make a clean base then run the machine up hot and then... Throw bread flour up into the area to see if it sticks to the leak or not. If it was a fuel leak I'd simply light a match but this one is more subtle. Any pointers as to what I should be fettling with before I go jam a finger in the dyke? Our machine is 759 hours today and celebrated by dropping its radiator grill...again. Got to love the devil you know eh? Ty

I've just recieved a quote GPS tracking and immobilising from a U.K company. Per machine: 500euros plus vat plus installation at X plus 240euros year monitoring fee. I'll keep trawling for other options... Ty

These days, we sell almost all we produce for 20euros per m3 It goes for garden mulch either fresh or after a period of maturing. The French use the term BRF Bois Rameal Fragmente. That is wood under around 6" from the crown of the tree. There is another name for larger chip 'Plaquettes' which is also used for fuel as well as mulch but is pure wood without any twigs or leaves. Deadwooding the drive. 3 days work for one side. 2 half days chipping. 1 half day flailmower to mulch the twigs and cones. Ty

The last of the 'arisings' away to the tip and one mother of a stump to grind out. Then the 4 of us started on the 1km long driveway, deadwooding the pines on one side from a MEWP. The other side, over 300 pines, we may be felling for biomass later in the year. I sold the arisings from the grinder as well as the chips from the deadwooding of the pines today which paid the labourers wages as well as our 4 course restaurant meal at midday. I've a new guy from Arbtalk starting a trial Monday as we're struggling to cope with demand. Ty

200 year old cedar that passed away some 10 years ago. I've put a video of the stem being felled on our FB page SARL Le Jardinier Anglais. To date the largest tree in mass we've removed although many taller. 1.8m dbh and 23m tall. Stump was HUGE and has produced a cool 6m cube of chip which I will sell for mulch once it's matured. Estimated 16 tonnes of usable wood has been given to locals. 30m3 of rakings, bark, brown rot etc to the tip. Ty

Hah, I was flailing the grounds of an overgrown property last Friday with our JD1026. The brambles where 2-3m tall and hid fallen fruit trees. These I just lifted aside with the grab bucket. Ty

I charge: 70euros an hour for a compact tractor and flail mower 42" 90euros per hour for 'long' grass OR 4.5 cents per m2 for regular cutting with the same size tractor mower. Minimum charges apply including travel. Ty
