  1. No, wrong Wildwood, I know Alan well, I was in the Chichester Boys Club when he was a leader back in the 80's I have alot of respect for Alan. This Catchpole fellow is quite another character. Ty
  2. We had considered tracked barrows in our grand scheme but instead put our coin into a John Deere 1026 tractor with grab bucket and winch. This moves wood much faster than any barrow, leaves less of a footprint when turning, has many more attachments and other uses BUT needs to be hauled on a plant trailer and thus another vehicle is required. Just another way... Ty
  3. On an arborist trading as Wildwood.net Jason Catchpole London and Hastings Any one know this guy? Regards Ty
  4. Quotes, stump grinding, groundwork, maintenance, management... I last climbed in November and that was to train a student in branch walking. (I don't count small tree work as climbing...) Ty
  5. Should read 'un-registered labour' It has recently come to light that French job agencies are no longer accepting many U.K arb qualifications unless they are officially translated and given the French equivelant. When I first came here they accepted without question NPTC etc. Now when the Spring comes you may find agencies will ignore this due to demand. Regards Ty
  6. Hello, Actually, just working for free for a business here is not really possible. You must either employed officially or otherwide self employed. Penalties are high for those using registered labour. You may 'sign on' at the job centre and then 'sign up' for an official work experience via the Pole Emploi (2 week work experience) or be on a formal training course. Your best route into basic employment here is via one of the Interim Agencies such as Agri-Interim who are always short of seasonal workers. Your at least 90min away from the nearest ex-pat tree surgeon so concentrating on finding work locally is really your best bet. Bon chance! Ty
  7. I apologise, I'm so very sorry. I now realise that PMs are not the way to more conscise communication. Notes attached to bricks through windows may be better... Ty
  8. If you want to share your dirty laundry with me then send me a PM. Your like an Islam-a-phobic mosquito in my ear... Ty
  9. Wind your neck in why not? Clearly a light hearted thread with light hearted responses. If want to have a bitch fight and scratch my eyes out then P.M me instead. Ty
  10. 2013-2014 stump grinding as in pure stump value accounted for 12% of turnover. However the number of jobs we won BECAUSE we could grind stumps is harder to calculate. We run 2 vehicles to carry chip away and either or both grinders come along for the ride. Next week 44 stumps to remove. As each tree is felled in line the stump gets ground out. An extra grand for the week for the company rather than giving it away. Ty
  11. Your speeling is distugsting, i cood not employ you plus your spray tan is the wrong shade... Ty
  12. Actually, I find Skyhucks overuse use of the 'Dismayed or Confused' smilie rather irritating beyond measure. I find I cannot sleep at night and the fatigue affekts my speeling and consentraition beyond measure to I find I repeat myself beyond measure due to lack of sleep... P.M sent... Ty
  13. That is why I've guys on 120 and others on 300+ Depends on experience, skill and productivity. I supply the clients and the kit, the climber is my main tool after that. Ty
  14. Come to France, we've a 55m2 new build first floor appartment for 292euros per month and the child and housing benefit come to 480euros so for now we live for free! Plus there is a national shortage of tree climbers which means business is...good. Ty
  15. Example, I charge out a subbie at say 120 but charge him out at 200. (this IS only an example, I'm not revealing just how greedy I REALLY am...) He is a cost, I pay vat on him, feed the slacker, sharpen the chains he kills and transport his fat corpse to the site so I feel I should make a margin on him. The margin advances the company (after paying tax on profit) Make me sigh when I read guys on here trying to work out how little to charge instead of HOW MUCH! Ty
  16. I have found Orange Plant technicians to be super helpfull and responsive. Ready and willing to help. But on the management level, something very rotten and avericious pervades the corridors of their HQ. The demanding of £500 Squids in case the chipper issue was NOT warranty is a fine example of this attitude towards customer care from this business. I will never recommend them or ever deal with them again after the trial I had over a used Stumpgrinder in 2014. Greenmech though, as company could not be more helpfull and proactive towards their customers and their needs. 3 days to find a tiny fault in a cable smacks of incompetance by Orange Plant. Stand your ground! Ty
  17. Is there a thread about 'slow cookers'? My wife is in Morocco for a few weeks organising our new appartment there so I must cook for myself once again. Bought a slow cookeer at Xmas from Tesco for £17 half price. So far I've just done meat stews overnight but the pleasure of knowing I have a huge plate of decent grub for a minimum of fuss really boosts me of an evening. Ty
  18. Speaking of a Kevin... Kevin Bloody Wilson does a great song about an apprentice. I'd post a link but have no wish to be banned so I'll leave you all to search YouTube if you wish to have a laugh. Ty P.S My apprentice is due a serious punishment after losing the chipper 'en route' last Monday. It popped off in the entrance to our yard and slid into the ditch. He then (along with a subby old enough to be his Father) drove 30km to the job without noticing it's absence. I was on holiday in Morocco and lucky for them no-one told me or I would have been on the next flight home to commit Jihad within the ranks.
  19. I would have thought a quick google would have sufficed to put you off... Spain Unemployment I do read that age group 18-35 has a 35% unemployment especially in rural areas. Ty
  20. Avoid working for the nobility too, worse payers than commercial clients... Ty
  21. We've experienced very good times since becoming a limited company in 2012. 30% up on last year (moving annual turnover) Ty
  22. Haha! Too right there Mark. I totally avoid farmers and leave the impoverished expats for other impoverished expat Arbs scratching a half living here. Give me urban French clients any day. Even lorry drivers retire on 2k+ per month here and with no real sense of a euro crisis there seems to always be a serious demand for tree work around here. Ty
  23. Ahahahaha! Never visited an Arab Souk? Get your greenhorn European pants pulled hard down and your white skin paddled with your own wallet on every single purchase unless you haggle. Ty
  24. I was offered a used one for 750,000 plus vat by ALM in Laval but it had a scratch in the paintwork which would have been a pain to polish out so I turned the offer down. Ty:biggrin:
