  1. You can't use words like 'Fugly' This thread belongs to a lady...! Ty
  2. Green technologies are not bodged by a bodger or handrolled on the thighs of Glastonbury hippy maidens. Green tech requires much the same resources and juice as any other tech. Mining, rare earth exploitation, huge transport infrastructures, oil industry... A Toyota 'pious' may not consume alot of petrol but it sure consumes alot of resources to make. Solar panels and all other 'Green' energy solutions all realised of the back of dirtier industries. I have plenty of friends who fret about Green issues. Some refuse to fly, live in self build eco houses and fret endlessly about new roads, airports, meat consumption and nuclear power but all still use the web, have normal jobs, drive cars and enjoy the benefits and facilities available thanks to dirtier technologies. 3. Hello, What do people charge out at? Does any-one make a margin on their workers? For example, whether a Groundy at minimum wage or self employed climber I add expenses associated with employment, plus profit margin, plus vat. Ty
  4. Did your eyes meet down at that gym your trying to get membership for.. ? Ty
  5. Being VAT registered is an advantage if you invest in your business and or work for other companies who are VAT reg. Non reg firms pay vat anyway, they just can't offset the vat they charge against the vat they pay in business expenses. It is less of an advantage perhaps if you have little in the way of expenses as then you are really giving almost 20% to the tax man. I buy a saw for a grand, that's 200 in VAT. I work for a grand, charge 200 in VAT One offsets the other, no vat to pay! So at the end of the year your final vat bill may be really very low, far lower than 20% of your take. It also gives some an opportunity to negociate and to offer a vat free Friday price for cash type monies if that floats your business boat. Ty
  6.

  7. A little of everything. Once again, council workers gave the shroom a good kicking as that is the preferred method of dealing with fruiting bodies so it seems. Ty
  8. Large 'fronds' about 17-20cm No strong smell. Pores. Significant die back in crown. Mechanical damage some 6 years ago during construction of housing. Ty
  9. Hello, Sorry, G.f was my 1st choice with M.sumstinei a possible match for this mushy mush. Ty
  10. Morning, posting this from our site in town. Could some-one please help i.d this mushy mush at the foot of one of these oaks we are deadwooding. I'm wondering if it is Meripilus 'hen of the woods'? Regards Ty
  11. I shall never share stuff like this ever again on a forum after some of the **** I have recieved about it from other members this last year. Ty
  12. I find cutting stumps down low means less waste to clear. Ty
  13. We've 2 x 261s which recently have started to cut out when chain brake applied. Classic case if clutch springs going so I understand OR is it a worn bearing causing the clutch to move and snatch the clutch/brake drum? Ty
  14. I recently priced for the removal of 12 large macrocarpas near Morlaix on the coast. It came to 12k which the client's face lost all it's colour but when they asked how many days I replied 6. Client does the math (not hard... ) and cries "2k a day!? You EARN 2k a day! That is outrageous! Tried to explain that I don''earn' such a figure plus I work FOR a limited company and wouldn't be on my own... plus all the equipment required but client's ears and mind where closed. Client thought I'd do it for the wood alone and burn on site though it be illegal and such a pyre would be seen from le tour Eiffel... Yet another Brit with Rose tinted glasses whose French dream is crumbling as far as he can renovate it... Ty
  15. Here I am at the church of McDonalds in Ouistreham. There will now be a short service. Lord, give us this day our daily 'M' and free us NOT from temptation, for fries are my kingdom, my power from Coca, for ever a BigMac, I'm in. Ty (64kg and climbing...)
  16. O.K, I've a few weeks left then. Ty
  17. Which leads me to the question, "how many hours do you get from an anvil"...? Ty
  18. Make a great script that when set to the tune of 'The Rocky Road to Dublin' Mind you, that sort of Shenanagins is par for the course here in Frenchy-Ville-en-Merde for the locals Ty
  19. Reverse of the subject, are there better longer wearing bars than those supplied with the original saws? Ty
  20. Cut off the fat? Liposuction perhaps... Ty
  21. We've a T540xp on demo for 2 days next week on Council job pruning tidying oaks overhanging gardens. There will be 4 saws to compare, a wee Echo which people like for it's weight, a 192, 200 and thus T540xp. I won't be there for this job but I've got a price of 432euros plus vat for the T540xp from the dealer. I'll post the climbers feedback after Xmas. Ty
  22. An example would be lorry drivers. In the U.K, they are often obese. Here in France, that is far rarer and you find more female drivers too. At midday, workers of all trades stop and go eat in a routier restaurant. (except for British tree surgeons who stubbornly cling onto their sandwiches/flask/transit cab tradition) WE however, sit down for an hour in the warm for a balanced 4 course meal. Plus, it is tax deductable! Ty
  23. I wear a hair shirt, of my own making, mostly woven from worries, troubles and purest stress... The shivering effect it causes keeps me warm as toast... Ty
  24. My wallet is so fat it must be disabled... Maybe it will qualify for it's own parking space! ha ha ha! Ty
  25. Oh I dunno... There are several ex-pat 'tree surgeons' over here without a ticket to their name yet naming no names... Ty
