  1. Really? I think no gob and going low is quite possibly a recipe for disaster.
  2. I would rather strap it up and climb than try to fell. I think you are totally right and it will explode while putting the gob in strapped up or not. I would prefer to do it on a less windy day though when it isnt moving about so much.
  3. You sure it wasn't a Triffid?!!!
  4. Lanyard and a caritool. Sometimes a spare carabiner if I fancy doing a bit of light lowering with the other end of my rope.
  5. I always make a habit of taking a quick snap with the phone cam when in virgin territory! Has pulled me out of the crap many a time especially on modern cars with umpteen pipes and cables!
  6. Excellent stuff, really like the green man.
  7. That is fantastic!!
  8. Errr I think not or this and many other threads in regards to lack of work wouldnt exist. Well your partially right there are loads of trees out there. I think if I found the local LA touting for private work I would soon start to point out any DDD, hazard and complaint trees that they have failed to sort out on their own patch first. I dont think the general public would be too happy that Mrs Smith is getting her dead tree felled by the LA because the money is coming directly out of her own pocket but Mrs Jones has to live next to a dead LA(and complain for years) because it isnt scheduled to be worked on yet.
  9. Spot on. I remember my dear old Mum saying a long time ago. "If you find you have to work 7 days a week then find another job." Edit, actually there was a bit about "Or change your lifestyle" I forgot to add on.
  10. I would like to believe in God,heaven and the afterlife etc otherwise its fairly 'sad' to think that when someone dies thats it, finito. As it is I believe in nothing supernatural. Shame as I will never know if that oak tree I topped last year will survive into old age.
  11. Excellent work. Really like the deers though.
  12. Yeah we dont need no excusses to bust a cap in yo ass! Working on a Sunday is a good enough reason to get a slappin me thinks.
  13. I think I would shoot anyone starting a chipper or saw up before 10am, and I think I am well within my rights to do that. Have some respect people, 8am on a Sunday! Think of the poor buggers that work hard through the week so they need and deserve some rest at the weekend. The above isnt me btw, I am far too lazy to work hard through the week.
  14. I would look at rewording your above post mate as it doesnt come across too well.
  15. Does this just go for arb equipment or can we borrow stuff like bin wagons too? I have loads of crap at the yard I could do with getting rid of. Also a cherry picker would come in handy to paint the outside of the house and clean the gutters.
  16. I thought the point was to light the top so it burnt down?
  17. I know one that has and its not the answer to all the problems. They area management firm so basically they have to screw down everyones rates to make it work. The staff they 'have' to employ just get moved about the department or moved out if they dont conform. One day they are sweeping the street, the next they are pruning some trees another day surveying some sub contractors etc etc. The local subbies will think thats its great as they will get some work, well gues what the management firm is only there for 5 years so they can mess you about long enough to wash their hands of you, and proably about 50 others in the process. Btw I havent fallen foul to the above so its not like Im typing this being bitter I just know a few who have and know enough people in said PLC's to know how it works.Obviously some will do very well along the way but it seems in general an awful lot dont. The best thing imo is to have trained LA people doing their job whatever it may be and get in subbies only when they have to, no need for any other drama.
  18. I would be interested in that too. I find it hard to believe that there isn't enough tree work to keep the lads busy in the vast majority of LA'S. Or are the men in charge thinking that they can put the management of their tree stock on hold while the lads get out there and earn a few quid. I too dont want to see anyone made redudtant but I also dont want to see the private service sector getting more squeezed than it already is. From what I know this isnt a new thing anyway, about 10+ years ago a client of ours said the TO was touting for work while checking a TPO app for our client. No that is fairly low.
  19. There should be some about on here somewhere you can download, have a search about. You can do a very basic one. You just need to put on paper, who you are, where you are working, what you are doing and how your going to do it. You dont need to go into loads of detail and you dont need to start looking in depth at safety issues its not a risk assessment. They dont usually call it a safety method statement, just a method statement. Or a site specific method statement. Just think if someone asked "What are those blokes doing over there" and the info could be quickly taken from a method statement your doing OK. Well aslong as you carry out the tasks in the way you said you would its ok. Plus its also so they can bollock you if you state "We will be lowering sections using a rope rigging system due to underground pipes and cables" then watch you drop the trees in one instead.
  20. I dont think its right to start having a go at the council lads its not their doing! Besides way too harsh saying they are all lazy good for nothings. I certainly dont agree with the LA's using public funded equipment and all that goes with it to carry our private work though. Its certainly not a bad card to hold advertising you are LA to potential customers who are worried about getting unknown contractors in.
  21. Tut tut tut, all looking for the cheapest price, your just devaluing the insurance industry!!! How will those poor insurance people be able to feed their kids. Im insured with first quote and they seem quite reasonable but tbh I think it all depends on the colour of the sky and what shoes the salesman is wearing when you ask for a quote. Best thing is to just keep calling loads of different firms. Also if you can get someone else on the policy who is less of a risk it will help ie mum, dad, wife etc. I put my mrs on my car insurance and it went down even though I had been driving 10 years longer than her and I had full no claims with no accidents or points etc, etc. She passed her test 5 years ago and hasnt driven since, wonder who the biggest risk would be!? Biggest load of thieves on the planet imo. Good luck and hope you get a sensible quote:thumbup1:
  22. I have always used glysophate at 20% just sprayed onto the stump, no holes or cuts. Never had one call back.
  23. Yeah your right the comments are fairly dire! Although I had a mess about with it before and preferred the layout to the paid version I also have! Tbh I prefer to just use a web browser to see AT in all its techicolour and flashery glory.
  24. There is a free one on android. Just search the market it's called convo.
