  1. Sad news indeed. Must be terrifying for the friends and family of the victims.Thoughts go out to them all. Pity it looks like he killed himself, also a pity we dont hang draw and quarter such people anymore.
  2. Its called cutting the ears off and I use it loads even on small stuff that has stringy bark. It stops it tearing and either pulling your strop down if tied in or hanging on and dropping on whatever you were trying to gob it away from. Good on willow, lime, elm, oak ,etc.
  3. OUCH! Hope he's allright with no lasting problems from that!
  4. That wont be easy to clip in one handed!
  5. Now that is very underhanded. I dont believe that anyone has a right to any work ie on my patch, thats an old customer of mine etc but that is nicking work that I wouldnt be happy about.
  6. Looks like a Mimosa tree, from Africa. Thats all I know, and it may be wrong!
  7. Ah well it makes me want to buy the book to see what all the fuss is about.
  8. The one you made looked fairly good to me.
  9. Looks well neat and tidy:thumbup1:
  10. I think its to do with the danger of the job. It's not like anyone can just go and unblock a sink now is it:001_rolleyes: Plus what if he didnt do it right, there could be water all over the floor and everthing!
  11. Stupid comment by me I thought they had a pulling line on it and it was the tension in that that caused the single tree to pull over. Dunno how I miss heard that though!
  12. What was he using to pull that over, a D9??
  13. You dont say! That one in your avatar has a whopper of a bar on it:thumbup1: What size? Sounds like a good relationship youve built up there.
  14. Real men couldnt give a ****.(damn)
  15. I think they want to try it out on a big chain on a big saw. Unless they did and blah sayed past it I mean in a professional market its probably not worth it on a small saw/chain but could be on the 066/088 it could be.
  16. Heres the take down [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8hHNeXlNcI]YouTube - Hazzardous Pine Removal May 25 2010[/ame] BTW, theres no way I could of climbed that since there were no pegs to stand on:thumbdown:
  17. I think you need a dust mask that has a vent flap thing. It stops the warm breath fogging up your glasses.
  18. Yes you did but the pics havent uploaded yet:confused1:
  19. I think there is a hairs breadth between a near miss and a catastrophic accident in this industry. We should all know the dangers but when an accident happens it happens in the blink of an eye. One second your doing your job the next your thinking 'What just happened!' Although obvious I suppose or there would be no accidents:001_smile:
  20. Tbh from what ive seen on TV( and we al know TV never lies:thumbup1:) American houses are made from dust and cardboard. How that house manages to last through the winter leaf drop is a mystery to me.
  21. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVFnO5O1zKg]YouTube - Failing Pine[/ame] Just something I came across while looking for irrevelavant tree stuff Interesting though!
  22. Definitely a good thought for the day. You do sometimes need to stop and think what your doing or how your doing it. It is difficult though like others say in that you do need to push yourself and/or be pushed to get the best out of yourself and improve your skills. All I would say though is if you do think something is way beyond your capabilities then dont have any fear in saying so and don't ridicule or push someone too far who does, as it may be on your conscience for the rest of your life. We should all have a thinking/looking at what your doing day every now and then.
  23. I think your right there about it not causing any problems. I sometimes sharpen our ones on a bench grinder and its fairly easy to get them the same thickness. Besides when you see the amount of crap stuck to different parts of the flywheel and the odd chunk missing where something nasty has gone through I doubt a couple of grams of steel would make much difference.
  24. It should as the intention is to kill the tree.Even if it does nothing. Ive seen the old copper nail story tried out but as far as I know it never works. Another one was putting grit ie salt around the base, someone did it to a syc which did look a bit poor but was still alive.
  25. You miserable sod Bob. You werent that helpful when I asked you for advice on splicing:sneaky2:
