1. It took my body quite awhile to adjust to the tree working life at the age of 20.(an I wasnt an unhealthy unfit git either) so I could see it taking longer at 30+. Besides I have seen a few older lads (very late 20's)trying to get into the game and tbh they arent that good and I doubt will make very good climbers. Obviously not everyone will be the same and determination plays a big part.
2. He could live in the south of France and travel 14 hours to each job, what a silly git he would be.
3. Wasnt there a device that inflated from the exhaust of a chainsaw. You put it into the back cut then inflated it. Never tried it though.
4. Wouldnt you be better off trying to lay them rather than cut down to stumps? BTW dont ask me for advice on how to do this because I aint a clue but thought it may be an option.
5. I like the vid, short and sweet:thumbup1: What happened to the black metal fence did you take it out?
6. Ie leave the deadwood if its not a problem, it might fall off and hit you. Deadwood anytime but may as well wait until the summer to do any pruning of live wood.
7. Too true as long as they do what they say in the manner they should and dont blag the customer along the way. Prices dont matter but its how they 'win' customers ie "Yeah that oak is really dangerous and needs to come down now" "This will rot the stump in a month" "That stump cant be removed" etc etc. I would have liked watchdog to get the 'customer' to say the quote is a bit expensive then see what they do to get the job. They are ripping people off not with the prices but how they work. Although I probably woulda done all 3 of those jobs including the garden tidyup for about £200
8. What could take you a day could take someone else 1-2 hours especially if you dont really do trees and they do. Although 2-3 loads of chip (to me would be 12-18 cube) would sound like a BIG tree and I would guess at £1000+ Without the pics no chance of pricing it from here. You price sounds about right for a days work though.
9. Spiking never was my forte and did take me quite awhile to get used to it. Although rubbish ex utility spikes with snubbed gaffs dont help! Whatever you do dont try to hug the pole/tree if you slip, you will regret it! lean back and dig the spikes in.
10. Surely not. An what was wrong with the reduction on the cherry. Everyone knows cherries like a good hacking......dont they.
11. If I was the owner of the white or blue car.
12. Its true I tell ya! Well its got to be true I saw it on the TV:thumbup1:
13. After the prog do you reckon there will be one less crew going to Capel.
14. Now thats thinking outside the box. Apparently pampas grass is planted to show that your a bit of a swinger.
15. Sounds like a good plan:thumbup1: Dont forget to all have your WCL ready too:thumbup:
16. I would say a good bit of stick poking is in order Make sure its a long one though!
17. The ones from Hama and Rich Rule are excellent. Well so are most of the others too like, just dont wanna upset any one.
18. You will if your cheap enough.
19. Nice colours.
20. Yeah I wondered about that too! Looking at least 100K around here for something remotely big enough unfortunately.
21. Fair enough I would call it realistic, but then I would I just cant see the EA giving us special permission thats all. Tbh I dont really know what we would be asking of the EA! Would it be that all tree surgeons dont need a WCL? I think if we are going to question the EA we should know what questions we are going to ask and why we want certain answers. Anyone care to start?
22. Theres a catalogue on their web site that might help sip-protection.com
23. Thats OK alot of other answers I've read make no sense either! Go on then, what do you want me to clear up?
24. Heres one bit its a bit poor. Any info on how they compare to the progress ones?
25. I see it different mate. I charge more for brash and timber removal than I do to carry out the tree work in the sense that it takes longer to remove the arisings than it does to create them. If I only concentrated on the tree work I wouldnt make a penny since I'm not exactly inundated with work. Plus if they do want me to remove any 'waste' then I can with my WCL and charge them as I would hourly for tree work plus the expense of tipping the waste. All the expense of my business is converting waste brash and timber(well it is just waste when its in a big pile in the garden) into a recyclable product then moving it. Narr I'm just going to start shooting them instead.
