  1. Well the rolly eye smilie made it look like you were being sarcastic in the comment Stevie made about the letters after there name. Anyway I'm sure you care less than me so for arguments lets just say I won eh. Of course its not rocket science but then they have some skill and I'm just a monkey with a saw. Hey BTS (the original poster) did you find the answer you were looking for then?
  2. Cheers for the info fellas. I thought the gladiators were tough (Mozza mentioned it awhile ago) but when I looked at the pics I just thought it was around the knee and ankle. I just cant bring myself to part with £200 no matter how good they are! I do WISH I had a nice employer to pay for them though:sneaky2: Although I do know have a plan to buy some SIP progress A for the summer and maybe some Strech Air or equivalent C for the winter. Once again cheers for the comments and it hasnt fell on deaf ears although I may have made it sound like it did (ask for opinions then dismiss them!) Oh and Paul Jenks I'll try and do something about my chanisaw technique eh.
  3. Reasons why I think the pay is low. 1. ATM there is loads of unemployed tree people looking for work. 2. In a lot of cases both commercial and domestic trees are just a PITA and alot of people think there is no value in them therefore no value in working on them. 3. For some reason people will employ anyone who has a chainsaw and truck, dunno how many times ive been asked for certs or insurance but it isnt many. 4. Because of above loads of lads just buy a saw and truck then go knocking for work and get it no problem. 5. The overheads are fairly high, look what a small company needs to run a gang compared to an electrician, bricky, plumber, roofer etc. Therefore profits are lower. 6. Trees in general dont demand work to be carried out but electrics, roofs, water etc do. There are LOADS of jobs I have quoted for that have never been done. 7. When atraining centre gets set up (like it did here) the local job centre thinks its an excellent idea to put every young lad on the dole through arb training. SO, you end up with loads of lads looking for work that doesnt exicst. 8. For some unknown reason people think there is loads of money in tree work and therefore go and get qualified.
  4. Ah but I'm not asking which are the best, I'm asking which ones have the stronger material around the front upper thigh area. You know the stuff thats fairly indestructible usually around the knee and ankle area. Does such a pair of chainsaw pants exist? Thats where mine wear out due to the way I sharpen the saw but mainly from burns off the 020 exhaust.
  5. Tbh that comment reads to me that putting letters after your name is pointless and that hose who do are muppets. Not my line of thinking but it looks like thats what your arguing over. Anyway back on topic, of course its a skilled job thats why younger people are better at it, older ones are pooh and its not worth bothering starting in this game if your over 30,oh and because it so highly skilled we should all have chainsaw licenses that are controlled by the government which would also include a WCL and because of our training and top skill we wouldnt need to bother with LOLER, PUWER or re taking our license's every 5 years. There thats all my posts for the next week sorted.
  6. Tbh I just dont believe people will pay those prices for that amount of work. If I priced £180 for those 3 conifers I could guarantee 100% around here I would not win that job. Would any of you pay that? It must be about the equivalent of a brickie laying down 10 bricks.
  7. It took my body quite awhile to adjust to the tree working life at the age of 20.(an I wasnt an unhealthy unfit git either) so I could see it taking longer at 30+. Besides I have seen a few older lads (very late 20's)trying to get into the game and tbh they arent that good and I doubt will make very good climbers. Obviously not everyone will be the same and determination plays a big part.
  8. He could live in the south of France and travel 14 hours to each job, what a silly git he would be.
  9. Wasnt there a device that inflated from the exhaust of a chainsaw. You put it into the back cut then inflated it. Never tried it though.
  10. Wouldnt you be better off trying to lay them rather than cut down to stumps? BTW dont ask me for advice on how to do this because I aint a clue but thought it may be an option.
  11. I like the vid, short and sweet:thumbup1: What happened to the black metal fence did you take it out?
  12. Ie leave the deadwood if its not a problem, it might fall off and hit you. Deadwood anytime but may as well wait until the summer to do any pruning of live wood.
  13. Too true as long as they do what they say in the manner they should and dont blag the customer along the way. Prices dont matter but its how they 'win' customers ie "Yeah that oak is really dangerous and needs to come down now" "This will rot the stump in a month" "That stump cant be removed" etc etc. I would have liked watchdog to get the 'customer' to say the quote is a bit expensive then see what they do to get the job. They are ripping people off not with the prices but how they work. Although I probably woulda done all 3 of those jobs including the garden tidyup for about £200
  14. What could take you a day could take someone else 1-2 hours especially if you dont really do trees and they do. Although 2-3 loads of chip (to me would be 12-18 cube) would sound like a BIG tree and I would guess at £1000+ Without the pics no chance of pricing it from here. You price sounds about right for a days work though.
  15. Spiking never was my forte and did take me quite awhile to get used to it. Although rubbish ex utility spikes with snubbed gaffs dont help! Whatever you do dont try to hug the pole/tree if you slip, you will regret it! lean back and dig the spikes in.
  16. Surely not. An what was wrong with the reduction on the cherry. Everyone knows cherries like a good hacking......dont they.
  17. If I was the owner of the white or blue car.
  18. Its true I tell ya! Well its got to be true I saw it on the TV:thumbup1:
  19. After the prog do you reckon there will be one less crew going to Capel.
  20. Now thats thinking outside the box. Apparently pampas grass is planted to show that your a bit of a swinger.
  21. Sounds like a good plan:thumbup1: Dont forget to all have your WCL ready too:thumbup:
  22. I would say a good bit of stick poking is in order Make sure its a long one though!
  23. The ones from Hama and Rich Rule are excellent. Well so are most of the others too like, just dont wanna upset any one.
  24. You will if your cheap enough.
