  1. Hating all the threads on stolen gear lately. So thought I would open a thread on some ideas to help us keep are well earned and worked for gear. Personally I think the most important thing is to be informed when someone is trying to nick your gear. Someone with an oxy acetylene backpack and whizzer can cut through all your expensive padlocks in a couple of minutes and set of your alarm but if theres no one there so see/hear it.... So my advice first off would be to buy a GSM wireless alarm. They cost under £200 take less than an hour to install and will text and call you if someone trips the alarm or sets the smoke alarm off. Its on pay as you go so no costs unless you get a call. I know Dean has a nice alarm system so hopefully he will explain a bit more on that. Any other tips/tricks or good bits of security gear welcome.
  2. Well I think the greasable sprocket on the husky to be purely rubbish so there........

    Gutted.

Tbh I dont understand how the thread about defending your property has any bearing on this one.
  4. It would seem that if you get pulled over its all about luck. I know its not a mog but ive been pulled over by vosa a few times in the last couple of months in a 3.5 tonner and 6 inch chipper. Each time they mention different minor faults and sometimes check out the chipper and sometimes not. Up to now ive been lucky.
  5. Its not for us its so the customer can see how your going to do the job and have it in writing so if anything goes wrong they have something to reference to. IE you state on your method statement that you are going to section down a dodgy dead tree with a MEWP, you then think bugger it and drop it in one, goes the wrong way and does some damage. You are well and truly fecked. You might explain what your going to do verbally to one site agent but the next day another one is in his place, he can just pick up the method statement and see whats going on. Another other rubbish along those lines.
  6. Now that would be a novelty! I also like it when they bung a little island right in the way so it forces you into oncoming traffic.
  7. As far as I know it is a cash cow for the government as the funds from the fines go to the treasury but the up keep of the cameras is paid for by the councils. Tbh I would rather see more cameras and less speed bumps. Also IIRC cameras can only be installed in spots where there has been something like 2 accidents resulting in death within something like 3 years, so they cant just bung them up anywhere ie thats why when people complain and ask for a camera they put speed bumps in instead. I would just rather see more coppers on the road who can also be on the look out for other types of crime happening rather than only speeding. BTW I've been done for speeding a couple of times and I'm not complaining about it one bit, all my own fault. BUT THEY SHOULD BE OUT THERE CATCHING REAL CRIMINALS!!!!
  8. I find the chains on Stihl saws to be sharper tbh.
  9. Thatll teach him not to try and run a copper over then take chase! I bet he was a well know local hard man/drug dealer runs hoe's on the side.
  10. Yep another load of paper work rubbish but to be fair to some of the people that request them half couldnt care whats in them they just need to have them. As Graham said god help us in the future! Ive been successful on a few nice jobs because a couple of the other companies quoting "Dont really do method statements" so it is worth sorting a nice easy one out that takes a few minutes to make site specific. My method statement would have included the methods required in disposing of the tea bag tbh. This is part of the reason Mrs Miggins gets a better deal on tree work than Mr Commercial.

Very sad indeed. I read about him being blinded in both eyes the other week and thought how terrible that must be. I'm being serious when i say this but imo anyone who says they think Raoul was a hero really needs some psychiatrict help ,they must have some mental issues!
  12. Gonna have to make sure I catch that!! Havent watched any crosser stuff since the days of supercross when Damon Bradshaw ruled. Makes me wanna buy a bike again .
  13. Is it a highway/LA tree or domestic/commercial land?
  14. Hey I said many not all. I'm just posting on behalf of all the members that are to scared to go against the grain. Plus its raining again outside so no work and I'm bored.
  15. Lol not to worry and thanks. Besides I am only saying what many others think. A lot of us and our spouses owe our livelihoods to the simple fact that trees get in the way. I cant remember that last time I ever did anything for the benefit of the tree, except maybe pollarding(topping) instead of felling.
  16. As far as I am aware the general consensus is to fell and remove then deal with any structural problems later when everything has settled. Otherwise no one can say for certain if you prune x amount this year then x amount next year then x amount etc etc it will not cause any problems.
  17. I think its right to remove/prune trees because its blocking the light, shedding leaves, blocking the sky signal, drops aphid sap everywhere, nesting/roosting bird mess everywhere, worries people when the wind gets up etc etc etc..... Why not? Lifes too short to have to deal with the above so why not remove it. Thats why are industry was born imo so lets not complain about needlessly felling/pruning trees when without it there would hardly be an industry at all.
  18. Now your just taking codswallop. In fact I have never seen so much claptrap in my life.
  19. As others have said you need to read the small print and see under what conditions it has to be stolen in in order to make a claim.

    HDR Photos

Some HDR pics are really good. They do antique effect stuff really well. Only really had a mess about with tutorial cd's but will have to give it a try for real one day on some of my own pics. I reckon some nice fungi shots would be very nice.
  21. Thinking about this again today and realising mine and Micks comments went completely against what this thread is about although I do like to jump to conclusions, as well as tar everyone with the same brush I thought I would have a look at the other vids. Now hows that for positive thinking. Hopefully it will have some enlightening qualities but I do reserve the right to call it complete twoddle if only to use the word twoddle again as I quite like that word (cheers Mick, although the rest of your imput has been pooh!) and IMHO its right up there with the word gobbledygook:thumbup1:
  22. No in my first post I said I had only watched the first one and thats what I was basing my opinion on. Since I'm not going to watch the other 8 I suppose I best not comment any further. Although people who think his words are that of wisdom did they also watch all 9?
  23. Maybe the branch collar was difficult to see so they left a stub so they could come back later and prune back to the branch collar when it was more visible(apparently) An then err forgot.
  24. I think the same also. It isnt good to run a saw lean/dry. But, I do it all the time when using the saws ie it runs out of juice which I find out when it starts running lean. Difference though I suppose is stopping the saw straight away and not getting the last dreggs out of the tank.
  25. You musta been lucky not to have watched any Jerry Springer, Ricky Lake,Jerry Jones Oprah etc. They often had people like this guy on saying this type of stuff. Every other sentence had the words self esteem in it! It just seemed this guy was saying the same stuff to me. Yeah thats the stuff but imo it soon turns into what I was saying. People start to believe everything is about them, they are capable and should have the opportunity to do anything they want and stuff what everyone else is doing because they dont care, well unless they are in the way then they can get trodden on. You only have to watch one episode of American Idol to know I'm speaking the truth. Although you are probably right though and I do have it wrong, so many people these days do look to blame others more than they deserve and self image is becoming a major problem unfortunately.
