  1. Your head is right, traffic control is minimum though. I'd also like to add that this is not the first time this year that crazy prices are being thrown around. BAD for the trade!! I'm trying hard to stick to my guns on my pricing which I'm confident is good, in terms of time allocation etc etc. There's some busy fools out there at the moment, taking risks they shouldn't be. My gut says this tree is not a climber!!
  2. Some good guesses there people, don't know if to let you know now or keep this going a wee bit longer?? By way of a clue, I reckon there's 1 day on the oak and easily 2 on the ash using the picker, oh yeah and for 3 men
  3. Don't know about you out there, but this year has been a nightmare for me quoting for jobs and loosing out to stupid prices. A week ago I looked at a Large ash 1metre + dia @ base 25m+tall with 4 Ganoderma brackets growing out from around the main fork @ 8metres, 4 large stems from that fork. Wood pecker holes all over the shop, and 9 BT cables running through the crown, over a road. On the same job a 18metre tall 15 metre wide evergreen oak to reduce by 1/3rd, with 3 bt cables running through also over a road. Both TPO trees and the ash to be stump ground and chased out. Given the extent of the fruiting bodies, trees position and structural loss of integrity of the wood I think cherry picker time!! Today I called the lady to express my concerns with climbing said tree and that my quote will reflect hire of picker and that it will bump up costs, she said unless I can beat her lowest quote so far not to bother. She told me the lowest quote she'd had... to fell tree, grind and reduce 2nd tree. Here's where the fun starts, I know you haven't seen the job, but could you say what ball-park you'd say it was worth then.......guess what the lowest quote so far is?? Answers on a self addressed envelope!! I'll let you know the answer soon.
  4. Think it's to do with the music copyright. Maybe someone on her will know how to help out?
  5. As the title says, beautiful day to be in the trade. Hope you enjoy. Having problems getting the image up, but the link works
  6. Had a Terrano for about 4 years, 130k on the clock, never missed a beat engine wise (I think the 2.7 L is the same as used in the black cabs in London) had to put a new battery on, replaced corroded fuel line and centre exhaust, usual stuff really. It towed OK and was very good in the sticky stuff. Pulled a transit & chipper across a muddy, hilly field more than once. Well used and abused. Great truck, infact I saw it around my way this week sign written and being used for a landscaping company, Still going strong. Not amazing on diesel though 24-26MPG
  7. Just my humble opinion but oak seems to take closer to 2 years to be seasoned enough to sell (air dried that is)
  8. Enjoyed that a lot, what head cam are you using?
  9. I had a great collection of about 7 or 8 about 10 years ago, including one acer that was 15 years old, zelkova, and contoneaster (make surprisingly good bonsai). Went on holiday for 2 weeks and my sister forgot to come around and water them for me. All of them died!! Cheers sis.
  10. Try a wee dram of this. Lovely stuff. As a soft southerner I've been enjoying Scotland's finest for 10 years + now. Started off with a nice easy on the palate Dalwhinie 12 yo then move on to the more challenging tastes Ardbeg Laphroig Auchentoch (i think thats how its spelt) etc etc. on the day of my marriage my wife to be got me a bottle of Glen Grant 50 year old ... I kid you not. I do love that lady!!!
  11. Now that's interesting. That's the other option that was thrown into the ring. I'd discounted it. But maybe???
  12. So, I looked at this a few days ago, having a wrangle with the ident, help much appreciated. Client has come back to me with a rather leftfield (internet) based ident, I differ. The tree is approx. 10m tall and maybe 3m spread, stem shot is @ 1.5m and approx. 250mm Cheers . I know what I think it is, but he is resolute he also knows, would like to get some other opinions on it in case I'm well off the mark.
  13. Looks like a consensus is forming Brace when in full leaf
  14. I'm of the way of thinking in full leaf.
  15. So GardenKit, what 2-stroke did you use?
  16. Big ole tree again Ross. With regards to the 6 day thing, it depends on how many people on the deck you have, things are obviously going to be faster the more hands you have on a job like this, if there's you and a groundie then six days, although a long time is reasonable, 2 groundies on the deck would be quicker and price maybe would be much the same (more manpower=wages) also you quoted presumably against other companies and got the job so you must have been competitive. Crack on my friend. Has a good break enjoy the festivities...here's to 2013
  17. Second that! It takes years I think to get your eye in on reductions, be patient and persist, it will come.
  18. Yeah I thought of that also, replacing of mulch due to degradation etc. What sort of costs you would you put on this sort of contract.? Anyone??
  19. Hello y'all, recently carried out a planting scheme for a memorial gardens, been asked to include an aftercare package, just wondering what you all include in these packages (I know we have watering, ties adjustments etc etc maybe a little formative pruning,) but do you do o'wt else? Also, what kind of costs on average would you charge?
