  1. And here's one of my daughter enjoying her first sunset at Cafe del Mar, Ibiza last week.
  2. Here's one from my office window a few weeks ago.
  3. So, I'm still loving my new mac and would like to attempt a little mixing of my music library. Any tips on good packages for beginners, free or otherwise?
  4. So which Garmin did you go for in the end?
  5. I've had these boots for over a year now, closer to two come to think of it. Never proofed them and they have never let me down. Always had dry feet even in the winter that we had last year. I can't rate them high enough, they take a little bit of wearing in but I reckon for me they're the best boots I've ever had. A mate of mine reckons that the Meindls are very good but they are quite a narrow fit. Hope this helps.
  6. Seems like the TomTom is in the lead at the moment.
  7. Bit of advice needed? I'm going to buy a satnav, and wondered what your views are on the two main players in the field. They both seem to offer similar specs, but is there a better make out of the two or is it the same as the eternal Sthil v Husky debate???? I'd quite like Bluetooth as an option. Thanks for the advice peeps.
  8. Thanks apbell. Glad you like the vid, what did you think of the soundtrack?
  9. Cheers Ross, how's life treating you?
  10. Thanks for the positive feedback. My wife has done this course and couldn't believe how much higher than the bridge I was at times.
  11. No it's the non hd one. I think I've sorted it. Turned it to record on mjpeg. I wonder if the MOV setting would work?
  12. Yeah I know, it's called the wonders of modern technology. Batteries went flat and daughter had raided the camera case for new batteries for her. Pesky kids!!
  13. I know. Didn't mean to! All good with you?
  14. Easy there peeps. Didn't think my little old vid would cause such debate!! With regards to HUGE slings. Yes they are a little on the large side, my mistake when i made my last Johnsie order ! Had them on site.....gonna use them! To address the lowering the whole tree question, well I,m certainly not adversed to lowering at any time and have always championed the use of pulley/blocks etc but in this case it felt that the best way to go was to chog down. The room was there and indeed as pointed out the chogs were easy to get into the drop zone. We all know how heavy pine branches can be, so I thought better to be safe than sorry. Hope that answers some of the issues raised.
  15. Evenin' all. Here's a little vid of a pine takedown we did this week, simple really, spike up, lower down branches on a pulley and chog the rest down. Tree was felled because of a nasty, nasty cavity @ ground level. Hope you enjoy! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zjx24beK-U]YouTube - GoApe Bedgebury[/ame]
  16. Pole saw kit, much over looked and under-valued. We have the Jamesons set and I rate it!! Sky hooks are always useful as well
  17. Evenin' all Just got my first Imac and I've gotta say I love it already. One question though. What is the best format to shoot video on? I have a Drift x170 headcam. On the old pc AVI files worked but should I use MOV files or the MJPEG setting from now. I hope to post these videos on youtube so I guess it has to be friendly for that site as well. Thanks
  18. I had exactly the same the end of the year before last, same age trees, same location all but a few metres, same pots, soil etc etc. The tree that was suffering, I cut right back beyond the dead and the dying. The following year and this year the severely pruned tree has grown wonders and now looks the most happy of the two? Can't and wouldn't guarantee it but might be worth giving the struggling one a good hard prune. I've since found out that olives do not like a windy position, could this be your situation? Good luck.
  19. Very good!!! He helped us pull the trunk over with his 400HP Scania. Nice piece of kit! His tree is also one of the youtube vids, here it is [ame] [/ame]
  20. Did I get that right??? He wanted to charge YOU?? That's the best I've heard for a long time!
  21. I've never done that before, I do sometimes think about it when a client asks you to quote for felling a tree on a house that they are thinking to buy. The only time I've done these "quotes" for people I've never got the work. I think, like yourself next time if it for a proposed house purchase a charge for the quote, re-fundable on accepting the quote could be the way to go. It's difficult because essentially all you are supplying is labour, it's not like a builder/landscaper who has to outlay £'s before they get in site for materials etc etc. Maybe judge clients on an individual basis and try to get a feel for them?
