  1. Haha, yes Bender, it seems impossible doesn't it. If you didn't end up with blisters first time round your not doing it right
  2. I do high fells quite often for the same reason as Peter. To fit a tree into a space that it wouldn't otherwise fit.
  3. Be careful if you use that cut, it can just as easily make the butt stay up in the air whilst the tip comes down and spring the butt backwards, it doesn't always launch off like that.
  4. These are all taken from within my woodland except the first which is on my drive and last which is my front garden.
  5. Nothing on his web site, I nearly bought from abroad !
  6. I've been out after dusting off my Canon 10d and taken a load of photos. Problem is now I have tried to download onto my comp I've found out that windows 7 is not compatible with the 10d software, I have to use a card reader to import. I'll have to wait for my daughter to come home to show me how to get them
  7. Might have a go at them myself, what a good idea
  8. I suffered badly this week with sore eyes and it's not whilst cutting, it's just rubbing your forehead or eye brows after, you get an avalanche of sawdust in your eyes
  9. I love the disclaimer on the end There could be a few jumping down your throat now steve
  10. My woodlands on clay soil so there should be indicator plants/weeds for that, you can test yourself Rob
  11. haha I promise I'll have a look through my wood tomorrow and take some pictures of what I find. It could be bramble mind for all I know
  12. David, as we get older we get more interested in these things until eventually we end up sat in a deck chair on our allotments. I would love to expand my knowledge of woodland flowers, but taking in fungi has frazzled what little brain cells I had
  13. It would only be around double if I'm thinking right but a stem loaded straigth down will take easily 100 times more load than a stem loaded at 90 degree or even 45 degrees I reckon, otherwise pit props would be useless
  14. I wouldnt sell it off in bit anyway, Id keep hold of it, I reckon your only going to pull in offers around £175 so best kept under the bed for rainy days
  15. I,m doing logs at this very moment and thats not the type of logs you do on the toilet. It's all money in the bank. i want to be ready for the rush
  16. Its all good for instilling confidence in your climbing system. If you can abuse to that extent without failure, then your body weight is going to have no chance of making part of the system fail, provided it is in good order
  17. I have yet to break a rope or have a knot fail and I have abused some ropes
  18. Spot on. What is interesting is most ropes fail just outside the knot, not within. Which would explain the fibres entering the knot on the outside of the radius taking all the load. This was interesting and so is the knot, a blood knot. Google Image Result for http://www.allaboutknots.com/html/7_breaking_files/image004.jpg
  19. Lesson Number 1 Can you explain WHY a knot takes out strength wee Franky ?
  20. Tony If you lived closer I would love to take you up on the offer and it's an excellent idea. The problem most have with fungi is knowing whether or not they have got their id right and not having someone their to confirm. I got the book and gave up because of this. A guided tour of fungi pointing out its characteristics and methods of remembering and id'ing would be excellent and would be worth the travel but not worth the travel that far. Good on you mate, excellent idea
  21. You need to speed up that production Johnny, you'll never make money mate. I went flat out on my own the other day and did 1 ton every 1 hour 10 minutes on tree surgery waste including cutting rings etc, you should be doing double that with cord and a processor So that should be 12 ton in 7 hours which is 2 days and 2 hours, flat out, so I reckon the extra day must have been spent kicking stones around the yard with your hands in your pocket
