  1. I was laughing my socks off whilst taping it up thinking what Monkeyd would think of my Tree First Responder treatment.
  2. That wrecking ball might as well be a large balloon filled with air and painted grey, infact is probably is
  3. They still felt really dry Steve and were around 25% but the was a huge difference between those and my 18% logs in terms of btu output
  4. All that shows to me is a pruning cut that is healing well I could probably go out and pick some good pruning wounds and some bad pruning wounds. As for the lack of epicormic, that depends on how heavily it is pruned I objected to heavy pruning and topping (on a perfectly healthy tree) which I believe is not in the trees best interest and would argue against your theory in that the tree would suffer less harm if left alone
  5. What d'ya reckon mate, think it's will mend ?? Felled a tree at the side of this apple and was lazy so didn't tie back a branch and caught it. I asked the client for some gaffa tape and bandaged it up for him I did say if his tree didn't recover or died I would put in a replacement.
  6. Nokia N900 Charlie I'm chuffed with mine. Apps are not readily available as they have just come out and battery life is tight, it goes down to half if I use it a lot ove 24 hours but lasts a few days on standyby Internet is excellent, quite fast and similar to the iphone for browsing, full qwerty as well Got mine on Tmobile for £30 a month, unlimited internet, 500 mins any network and 300 texts Dont get an iphone, every tom dick and harry has got one Baaahhh
  7. The only advise I can give Dave is dont make it sound too interesting otherwise in ten years time there'll be hundreds of wannabe tree surgeons in your locality
  8. I worded that wrong Rupe It should have read, " The wrecking ball would obviously be a much greater mass had it been real"
  9. I am dissappointed in you Tony. That law only works with masses of equal weight and density The wrecking ball is obviously a much greater mass than the car and the car absorbs energy because it is of a different density.
  10. What moisture content were the logs you sold ?? The reason I ask is I ran out of undercover seasoned logs even for myself. But luckily (or so I thought) I had the forthought at the end of summer to sheet over a huge pile of bone dry rings to keep dry as a backup supply. The other day I went down, pulled the sheet from over them to revealwhat looked like still bone dry logs I split them and was happy they were dry but on testing they were 25%, I took them home and have been using them but my stove is performing very poorly with them. I have to stack them at the side of the stove for 24 hours to get them to anything like a decent moisture content to burn efficiently. In my veiw, logs stacked outside with no open side cover over them will never be "properly seasoned" then only logs that work in my stove (smokeless recirculating stove) is 20% and below moisture content
  11. If that were a real demo ball it wouldn't have stopped
  12. Ali Planking might be better Tim Someone gave me the link where to buy, which I lost when my comp went teets up
  13. Just a thought !! Do you need planning permission for a polytunnel ?? We're talking maybe 50' x 25' Maybe even a double wide one
  14. I love a good ride I take it you are planting for the shoots benefit ?
  15. I have repaired one or two in the past and have two in my workshop in bits (heating element gone) they are used for joining vinyl flooring such as the use in hostitals and for repairing curtains on curtain sider lorrys. They are quite dear new but your market for selling them is very limited, I cant think of a use for one otherwise I'd buy it
  16. I dont bother with reloading Rich, knowing my luck I'd probably blow something up
  17. I got a total of £883 I can now pay the final instalment of my tax bill
  18. Everyone in London should be made to use a bike instead of car Nice one Red
  19. Better to fell or reduce than a 70 % reduction We reduce all the time Tony, but I very rarely do more than a 30% All everyone is saying is massive reductions (unless the tree is ailing) are seen as not in the trees best interest I had a chat with an Oak today and asked it's opinion, it was mortified at the prospect of anything more than a light haircut
  20. Amazing what you can find if you root about under the bench. So far I have : 175 kg Bright copper wire 5 kg Copper pipe 32kg Clean brass 5 kg mixed brass 88kg Ali 20kg Lead 34kg Stainless Going to weigh in tomorrow, been given a price of £3.80 a kilo for bright wire
  21. I'm referring to heavy pruning. I read a book somewhere that said something along the lines of an Oak, grows for 400 years, declines for 400 years and rots down over 400 years. "Not if Billy the Tree Surgeon comes along with his 020" I thought to myself
