  1. Nope not naming names - no shame in it we can all be useless.. I am sometimes on this list - but am suitably abashed once I see my silly errors. Here is a good example - 'Sugi bar only done a weeks cutting and it's got a chunk out of it'. Get pics of the rim and chain. If you check the chain you can see the tearing and peening on the bottom of the tie straps. Rim is knackered. Used an old chain [sharpening looks good] on the new bar. I explain how the drive rim and damage the chain which can damage the bar - reply from customer 'So you saying it's my fault'.... I give up ☹️
  2. Yep but again it's assuming folk clean the saw regularly - some don't and in the end you are bound to get some build up. It's not the wear that's the issue - it's the wear and being ignorant of it that's the issue. Chain sharpening on the whole seems pretty good though [better than mine in most cases!] but the bar and sprocket maintenance is truly shocking.
  3. Yep - I know I was equally as bad when I was on the tools full time and makes me feel somewhat abashed! I'm doing a vid soon to illustrate the issue though.. all these customers were perplexed as to why they were having issues... [permission granted by all - no naming and shaming] Worn Rim 1 (1).jfif Worn Rim 2 (1).jfif Worn Rim 2 (2).jfif Worn Rim 6 (1).jfif Worn Spur 4.jfif
  4. Yep - it would not bother me so much but when you get the 'mate I thought these Sugi bars were good? only had light use for 2 weeks and look at the state of it!' - and then when you point out how shagged their gear is - they still don't get it! It is coming sadly to me saying - please don't buy off us again. How do you point out to folks that they haven't got a clue how to look after this part of their gear?
  5. Hi all - am going to try and do a more in depth post another day... Since manning the whatsapp I've found many of our customers are using old chains on new bars and not changing the drive sprocket/rim often enough. Old chains may have peening to the drive links - on a nice shiny new bar the friction generated is huge - heats the rails after a few minutes and the bar is written off [or it will still work but will not last long before chunks fall out of it]. Don't use old chains on a new bar Always check your drive sprocket/drive rim for wear Keep all the old stuff together and use it together - don't mix it into your new stuff! I'm seeing so many knackered drive sprockets/rims [but generally the reply is 'not had the saw long mate only light work etc etc'] and issues where the bar is getting overheated and blued through using old chains.
  6. Yes we have got kits on ebay for these - but not sure for how long as thinking of reducing our ebay presence - makes stocking very hard and pricing harder! The kits on ebay are pretty much what you already have.. it's a great way to start milling to be fair but it's still piggy backing a market built by others. I'm sure plenty people call us for advice before buying their mill off ebay - not sure we can do much about that... but we don't have to be happy about it

    Covid-19

I see where you're coming from but I'm not sure the government is ever really held to account for anything [other than a few used as scapegoats]. Looking at the Spanish Flu pandemic 1918 it seems that the first wave was not too serious but the second wave was far far more deadly. I hope this virus does not run the same way. If it does then I suppose these lock downs and precautions would give some preparation for that.

    Covid-19

Yep I'm not saying it's an easy call to make but we are currently not in a comfortable position at the moment [due to the imposed lock down]. Or maybe speak for yourself - for myself trying to work in a flat with a 3 year old at home 24/7 is not comfortable! Have I taken the additional stress out on my daughter at times over the last 2 weeks - yes I have. Do you think in some families this may run to violence at home - it makes sense that it has and it will. It's a hard line to walk but it reminds me of health and safety - being too heavy handed can and does cause more issues than it solves.

    Covid-19

He does say that ie. if it isn't between 50-100k by mid April - and likely it will be in that bracket - but I don't think it debunks what he is saying.

    Covid-19

Watched the vid and agree with it - or at least it makes sense - that's not to say what he is saying is true... time may tell. Even if the death rates are lower than the flu it will be claimed 'it's because we acted so quickly and robustly' The slogans I see everywhere about 'save lives' 'save the NHS' reminds me of this poster... I've also noticed that if you offer an alternative viewpoint to the Corona virus then you are quickly talked down - as if somehow you yourself were responsible for the outbreak! You're not allowed to think differently...
  11. That's the issue I think at the moment - how would you know if you had it or not when the symptoms per individual are so different? Statistics are only showing those who have been tested - but from what I hear there are far many more who have already caught it.
  12. I've not been diagnosed but i caught something like it around 11th Feb after a round trip to New Forest then Jonsie [stayed in a couple of travel taverns] - got ill - felt rough - headache/achy/ but no runny nose for 5 days - got better for 1 week - then sore throat and felt rough again for 2 weeks with nasty cough. After this 2 weeks left me with 10 days of not severe dry cough and shortness of breath and fatigue. I think this virus is already out there - will get a self test kit when they come out to confirm.
  13. Dip damp cloth into the ash and use this to clean the glass [may have already been said ?]
  14. Yep - soon it will be free shipping to Sweden - and everywhere else in the world... however there will be a surcharge or % increase per country in price - this should make it fairer and then the price you see is the price you pay.
  15. Thanks for taking the time to do the vid
  16. That's not bad at all Bill and shows the control you get with the Panther Mini Bars - I sent you £15-00 thanks for posting..
  17. Try one of these and compare - if you put up a video on here showing one set up cutting.... pros and cons, then switch to the Panther Mini and chain - show this cutting - we'll refund half the price back to you [make sure you PM me after you have done so]. This offer only applies to OP unless you post a particularly good vid in which case it applies to you as well... The 3/8 lo pro and 1/4 .050 will never cut as smoothly as the super thin 1/4 .043... PantherMini - Chainsawbars WWW.CHAINSAWBARS.CO.UK
  18. Is it only the gold joining strap it doesn't fit over? Or the whole chain?
  19. Cracking load of timber - does he come and collect for free if he can have the wood?
  20. Yep - it won't do it - you really need to try square ground chain filing - most think instead of a round file you use a square file but pretty much same sort of action. It isn't at all - not only do you have to hold the file at an odd angle - the corner of the file has to line up exactly with the corner of the tooth. A round file it all sits in there for you. Watch at 8.39 to see. I spent 3 hours one day trying to get it right... and failed!
  21. Square ground chain is really tough to do - yo don't hold the file flat it is held up at an angle and you sharpen outside in - basically a very tough thing to get right!
  22. Quality plane table James - can't be many around like that at all - esp with the legs and base out of plane.
  23. I thought around £600-00 would work - and thinking mainly about chainsaw milling [as it'll do any length chain]... But I think the price was around £3,600-00+vat [don't quote me but I think that's what it was]...
  24. I found out the price of this and luckily was sitting down... not even going to bother saying what the price is!!
  25. Yep I may have removed these now as I think these have pretty much cleared out...
