  1. Thanks Si. I'd love to get some skip link lo pro chain particularly as we have some 64" lo pro milling bars on route (oh did I just say that silly me!) In the pipeline is some .325 .050 skip ripping chain... but we are still not quite the size we need to be to really get the big players to make chain for us. The thinner the chain the less it seems you need to alter the angle - I have used the 91vxl as it is for milling and it gives a lovely self feed cut in the vertical plane. Not used it on longer bars than 25"..
  2. Not too bad to kick things off
  3. How many listings you got now Steve?
  4. Bumping this thread! I should have called it 'Most realistic ever wood carved nude sells for £100,000!' I got a leaflet to design folks - what chain do you use?
  5. Well said - I have always thought there is no shortage of mobile sawmillers producing timber - there is no shortage of buyers for rustic things - there is a shortage of the middle man/wood worker who buys off the sawmillers and sells to the rustic buyers. That there is a big hole and also a big opportunity. The existing folks who do this it is often not as a business. I have found that the general public buy because a) they like the piece they are buying and b) the price is right. After they have bought it THEN they enjoy the story behind the wood ie. sustainable etc etc Rather than be moan this reality [I often did] we need to accept it. We need a couple of thousand of shops/people who can fill this middle area. I'm not sure how that will come about...
  6. Thanks Si - I should have been more specific - which lo pro do you run and why?
  7. They are the black none light type for now. The light type option from Cannon is still very new - we only have them in the small bars for this order.
  8. You want to watch it as you may find other folk may start sending their slabs to him as well ? Great to see a shop/workshop specializing in rustic stuff - we need these out there x1000 and it would then generate the market for waney edged wood from small suppliers.
  9. Well done Steve - it pretty much is always always down to the basics. Often folk will ask 'how often should I sharpen the chain' and the answer is 'when it's dull!' It's an irritating zen type answer - I did a Hornbeam the other day - had a new chain and milled the lot [4 hours] with no cutting issues or slow down. Very clean wood, no grit in the bark [which was smooth and thin] and no issues. A properly sharpened chain shares the wear - each tooth cuts it's weight - if a couple are longer or dull that means the other teeth have to do their job PLUS carry their lazy comrades along. It makes a big difference.

    Iranian crisis

Talking about it IS doing something about it IMO.
  11. On the Dime Tip bars everyone seems to use the Stihl carving chain 3661-13RMS Stihl Carving Micro Chisel 1/4 .050 But what is the choice most use on Quarter Tip bars? We are working on new carving leaflets and to make it easier will have x1 chain on offer - what do you reckon works best?

    Iranian crisis

Yep - 'We have found unequivocal proof of Iranian involvement'!

    Iranian crisis

I think if you acknowledge it then you are morally obliged to do something about it. That is a crazy statistc. What would happen if that money/time/energy were put into the planet... or even just not put into bombs.

    Iranian crisis

What is so crazy is they don't even have to do that much to get a war! A couple of explosions and off they go. It is sickening - how many fanatics were and are being created? If this country was attacked and your family killed or worse - what would be your mindset be against those that had done it? Especially when those that had done it had deliberatly caused the attack in the first place? Only hope I can see is America has such a catastrophic economic crisis they will not be able to fund another war. It's a long shot I know..
  15. I don't watch terrestial news - I don't see it as news. I see this latest crisis as a crude attempt to start a war - wasn't Vietnam started due to an attack on an American ship [Gulf of Tonkin attack] that later it seemed never happened or certainly the facts are in a lot of doubt? Iraq and weapons of mass destruction that never were? Once enough time passes it seems no one cares that much... I've seen reports [un researched] that one of the owners of the tankers hit by a 'mine' say that his crew reported it was definately a projectile of some form. Doesn't the evidence need to be overwhelming before starting a war? Are we really going to do it all over again?
  16. I don't know you tell me I suppose it is what it is - some people will think the price worthwhile and pay it, others will see the price as too high and won't. It's a Stihl vs Husky debate with no real answer. I always think that if there was one overall leader that was the best [combined with price point] we would only sell that one. The option is there if you want it.
  17. Nope I think Doug and Ed Robinsoin will still be selling the bars but we will be looking to expand on the range you can currently get in the UK.
  18. Good sized yew - around 120-140 years at a guess.... we didn't have the heart to count the rings.
  19. It's a hard one to say - a bit like what's best Stihl or Husky. Some like GB and some like Cannon and those that like their chosen bar will defend it... My pennysworth - all 60"+ bars will flex a fair bit and I would see little difference between a Cannon or GB.
  20. We are now officially the main distributer for Cannon Bars in the UK. We placed our first smallish order 1st May 2019. Lead time is 4 months. Shipping time is 1 month. Our distribution company Always Greener Ltd now have the 'Big Four' independant bar manufacturers - Cannon, GB, Sugihara and Tsumura. There are other smaller companies but these four are 40 years+ each in the business and that sort of bar making knowledge is not gained quickly.. So we'll be seeing these 1st October 2019 [or thereabouts - times are always approx]. Part of this order will have the absolutely brand spanking new light Cannon bars which are made in a totally different way to the other manufacturers. We only have these in the smaller bars this time round... We'll be doing a pre order offer starting next month which will include: Buy any Cannon bar 16th June 2019 - 16th July get x3 chains of your choice free Buy any Cannon bar 16th July 2019 - 16th August get x2 chains of your choice free Buy any Cannon bar 16th August 2019 - 16th September get x1 chain of your choice free Also - our order dates for Cannon are 1st May, 2019, 1st August 2019, 1st November 2019, 1st Febuary 2020, 1st May 2020 etc in effect every 3 months. If you have a request for a Cannon bar you can pre order for a 25% disc off RRP - you would pay for it before the next order date - again bear in mind delivery would be 5 months after the order dates above. E mail me for that on [email protected] We can do this with Cannon as the MOQ per bar is not set ie. unlike other manufacturers where we have to order at least x30 per bar length/type with Cannon we can do single bars at a time... We already have the Cannon carving bar range - prices are a little cheaper in the short term for these and can be found here on www.chainsawbars.co.uk or in the Carving Arena selector. .
  21. I'm hoping to be very pleasantly surprised when the time comes
  22. Yep it must have been used as a stone catcher tree buy kids at some point as never found anything like it before...
  23. This was a while ago but only just got round to editing - a truly hideous tree...
  24. This is the vid [which I'll post as a seperate thread] where the flint dulled one side not the other. Could not believe the force causing the mill to rise in the cut - no amount of weight would keep it down!
  25. I got one specially made 8 years ago when I knew no different... Tungsten carbide: Due to the nature of the material you can never get it sharp like a chrome/steel chain - at it's very sharpest it cuts like a dull chain It is hideously expensive You hit something and instead of bad blunting the whole tooth gets broken off It doesn't work for chainsaws - or at least for the way chainsaws cut at the moment...
