Yep - we may go back on there but with say only a dozen listings and plenty of indirect advertising to the website. But at the moment we are off it - hopefully business will stay busy enough where we never have to.
-
Ebay and Amazon make the buying process simple - legally it is very very hard for a small business to store peoples information and card details - as in you would not believe the red tape around it. Hence we have to make people put in their card details each time. Paypal is a little better I suppose.. Ebay and Amazon are one click and buy - and it shows the power in this as all our stuff on ebay was 10% more than our website. People will pay more for convenience and ease of purchase - and that's what ebay and Amazon offer.

I really agree with this fellow - and I could not have put it half so well... This sort of attitude and ability to communicate really does make me proud to be born in and be a part of this country. All the more authentic coming from someone who is technically in a vulnerable group.

We are pulling our items off the ebay shop - it has become too painful working on ebay these days... Everything is bent towards the customer with little protection for sellers. It's a great platform if you have high volume large margin goods that you can punt out but it is hard work to list the stuff we have to sell. x2 recent negatives from buyers and it's x2 last nails in the ebay coffin! May go back to listing some items in the future but we also want to bring more stock control onto the website which is not possible if you have the same items on ebay.

Nope I mean braver - going out and standing up for what you believe in [yes I appreciate not all the people protesting will have motives as pure as this] is brave.

Also instead of little signs and hand clapping - how about giving the NHS something more meaningful like a pay rise, less admin and better working conditions? Regardless of COVID or not... This whole thing looks to be all about control - get the population used to the idea that they can be locked down. We'll have to see if this becomes a more regular thing. Also what about all the stopped operations/depression/mental illness/domestic abuse/loss of income/loss of businesses? There are very nice smart figures on COVID all neat and tidy on the worldometer - it will be harder to measure the downside of this lock down so neatly. Part of me thinks I should be out there protesting about it but mostly I wouldn't cause I'm as equally cowed as everyone else is. Odd how the protesters seem to be ridiculed on here - they are braver than I am.

Lockdown has never made sense to me - and it makes even less sense now to lift it. The tests from what I gather can give both false negatives and false positives. There seems questions marks over how the death rate is calculated. From people I know who have had to go into hospital there was hardly anyone there. So the lock down is now lifted and it will be ok for us all to spread it freely and easily? Or maybe it was never that serious in the first place. Nursery for my daughter is closing for good with a lot of the staff there having been there 12 years or more... I think even if going by the guidelines set out for our 'safety' we should question what we are being told - I certainly do and then some.

Help needed! 064 adding a 36 inch bar

I think that the 3002 and 3001 are often now combined in the 3002 mount [don't quote me on that] ie. the 3002 mount is also the 3001 mount. Like the GB HS bars are combined 3001 and 3002 mount and you can fit to mid sized Stihl saws. -

Ouch - that there looks like a .404 chain sitting uncomfortably on a 3/8 drive rim - really hoping you have not run this yet as because the two things are not compatible - the rim will burr the chain and the chain will tear the bar and the whole thing will quickly heat up.. You MUST change that rim to a .404 rim 22270 Oregon .404 Rim 7-7 tooth WWW.CHAINSAWBARS.CO.UK 22270 Oregon .404 Rim 7-7 tooth Doesn't have to be bought from us... And by the way - I did and still do make mistakes like the above when I know better! So no shame in learning... can I use the above pic in my vids [no names mentioned?] -

Yep and I think that's fair enough - you pays your money takes your chances. It's up to folks how they do things... it's the painful few who feel that if something breaks it is never them and they don't want to pay for it. Using a knackered rim on a new bar will wreck it though - I've seen x4 I think the last month where the bar has no lasted long at all. One I couldn't figure out what had happened - the chain looked peened and drive bar had a chuck out of it but the sprocket was new... but other x3 were all down to worn drive sprockets or using an old chain on a new bar.
-
Prob slightly different for Steve - but for us if people want to wreck their gear [and yes a lot of the time you get away with it or you think you are getting away with it]. But when you don't it's very rare [very very rare] that the user says 'yep I've ruined this and I need another' what we get is 'I never had this hassle with Stihl bars - what's the warranty?!
-
Yep that would be perfectly reasonable - but it just doesn't work in practice. After 12 years in retail I've realised - if the customer makes a mistake then it's up to you to sort it out, if you make a mistake it's up to you to sort it out.. Just the way it is!
-
I can't say 100% this has caused the issue - I can say that it is pretty likely..
-
Nope not naming names - no shame in it we can all be useless.. I am sometimes on this list - but am suitably abashed once I see my silly errors. Here is a good example - 'Sugi bar only done a weeks cutting and it's got a chunk out of it'. Get pics of the rim and chain. If you check the chain you can see the tearing and peening on the bottom of the tie straps. Rim is knackered. Used an old chain [sharpening looks good] on the new bar. I explain how the drive rim and damage the chain which can damage the bar - reply from customer 'So you saying it's my fault'.... I give up ☹️
-
Yep but again it's assuming folk clean the saw regularly - some don't and in the end you are bound to get some build up. It's not the wear that's the issue - it's the wear and being ignorant of it that's the issue. Chain sharpening on the whole seems pretty good though [better than mine in most cases!] but the bar and sprocket maintenance is truly shocking.
-
Yep - I know I was equally as bad when I was on the tools full time and makes me feel somewhat abashed! I'm doing a vid soon to illustrate the issue though.. all these customers were perplexed as to why they were having issues... [permission granted by all - no naming and shaming] Worn Rim 1 (1).jfif Worn Rim 2 (1).jfif Worn Rim 2 (2).jfif Worn Rim 6 (1).jfif Worn Spur 4.jfif
-
Yep - it would not bother me so much but when you get the 'mate I thought these Sugi bars were good? only had light use for 2 weeks and look at the state of it!' - and then when you point out how shagged their gear is - they still don't get it! It is coming sadly to me saying - please don't buy off us again. How do you point out to folks that they haven't got a clue how to look after this part of their gear?
-
Hi all - am going to try and do a more in depth post another day... Since manning the whatsapp I've found many of our customers are using old chains on new bars and not changing the drive sprocket/rim often enough. Old chains may have peening to the drive links - on a nice shiny new bar the friction generated is huge - heats the rails after a few minutes and the bar is written off [or it will still work but will not last long before chunks fall out of it]. Don't use old chains on a new bar Always check your drive sprocket/drive rim for wear Keep all the old stuff together and use it together - don't mix it into your new stuff! I'm seeing so many knackered drive sprockets/rims [but generally the reply is 'not had the saw long mate only light work etc etc'] and issues where the bar is getting overheated and blued through using old chains.

Yes we have got kits on ebay for these - but not sure for how long as thinking of reducing our ebay presence - makes stocking very hard and pricing harder! The kits on ebay are pretty much what you already have.. it's a great way to start milling to be fair but it's still piggy backing a market built by others. I'm sure plenty people call us for advice before buying their mill off ebay - not sure we can do much about that... but we don't have to be happy about it
-
I see where you're coming from but I'm not sure the government is ever really held to account for anything [other than a few used as scapegoats]. Looking at the Spanish Flu pandemic 1918 it seems that the first wave was not too serious but the second wave was far far more deadly. I hope this virus does not run the same way. If it does then I suppose these lock downs and precautions would give some preparation for that.
-
Yep I'm not saying it's an easy call to make but we are currently not in a comfortable position at the moment [due to the imposed lock down]. Or maybe speak for yourself - for myself trying to work in a flat with a 3 year old at home 24/7 is not comfortable! Have I taken the additional stress out on my daughter at times over the last 2 weeks - yes I have. Do you think in some families this may run to violence at home - it makes sense that it has and it will. It's a hard line to walk but it reminds me of health and safety - being too heavy handed can and does cause more issues than it solves.
-
He does say that ie. if it isn't between 50-100k by mid April - and likely it will be in that bracket - but I don't think it debunks what he is saying.
-
Watched the vid and agree with it - or at least it makes sense - that's not to say what he is saying is true... time may tell. Even if the death rates are lower than the flu it will be claimed 'it's because we acted so quickly and robustly' The slogans I see everywhere about 'save lives' 'save the NHS' reminds me of this poster... I've also noticed that if you offer an alternative viewpoint to the Corona virus then you are quickly talked down - as if somehow you yourself were responsible for the outbreak! You're not allowed to think differently...
