  1. Depends on what you're after but with a moisture meter you get what you pay for. For quality the Delmhorst ones are good but I have yet to find a good meter under £100.... not saying they're not out there just I haven't found one.
  2. Didn't get round to unpacking kiln Friday but when I do I'll send pics. This is a walnut I milled last week.... not amazing colour but no shake at all in it. 48" alaskan with 50" bar.
  3. Good on you mum! I've found this the best way to sharpen.... gets everything the same angle and same length and it's fast once you've got the hang of it.
  4. Looks good as long as no potential customers see it!
  5. I had this on my old laptop and it drove me crazy. But found a programme in the end Synaptics Pointing Device Driver Software Informer: Latest version download, news and info about this Synaptics program. Improves your laptops mouse pad functionalities and allows you to customize it. I think it was here (couple of years ago) where you can turn the dam thing off!
  6. Quickest way to kill yourself or give yourself a life changing injury I reckon!
  7. I don't think elderly customers will be up to date on all the high tech stuff. I have a card machine but it is very expensive to run. There is also a 2.5% surcharge on top for credit cards. Also there's more charges from the banks end when they do some processing.... Cheques will be around for a long time yet I reckon.
  8. No idea why Stihl (or Oregon) do not produce a sprocket nose bar for the 880. The duromatic bar you have will work but the nose gets very hot and and saps some chain speed. Other options are a Cannon 50" or a GB 50" sprocket nose bar. I sell both types if you're interested. Cannon 50" £260 + vat and the GB £225 + vat. Both have replaceable noses. The GB bar is heavier and based on the harvester bars they manufacture and I use them but the cannon bars are also very good. Which lasts longer? I'd say pretty evenly matched. Long bars get worked hard when milling.
  9. Not on my site it's not! But the reason it's more expensive is that the cutters have to be adapted by unrolling the reel and re grinding.... Whether it's worth the extra money varies on depending on who you ask. Personally I think it's more down to how well you sharpen than the type of chain you're using.
  10. Put some pics up and comments of how you got on afterwards as well. Chain sharpness is the crucial bit.
  11. Cheers!
  12. Thanks Andrew for the comment! As above weather won't affect the wood at all except over time. There's so many different variables cutting and drying wood... just get stuck in and have a go!

    I'm Off

Brave move! well done for giving it a go
  14. No worrys Scott. It's good to be able to help out someone like yourself. Cheers, Rob

  15. Listening to his heavy breathing at the end he's certainly not the world's fittest redneck!!
  16. Cool Liam. Are you going to sit that one of the right on something so it sits higher off the ground?
  17. Who's going to pay all these £1000? Kids can climb over fences. In an ideal world we'd do everything to prevent another child dying through an accident but we don't because we don't live in an ideal world
  18. But he was talking about mechanical failure between MOTs NOT whether the car was incorrectly MOT'd And in that respect it's quite a good example!
  19. It was a terrible tragic accident. But accidents happen in life. How will we ever get out of the terrible blame culture we have sunk ourselves into unless we accept that life is full of risk. If it gets so expensive (trying to avoid liability) to keep trees then no one will keep them...
  20. Ripping chain wise you can get (in .404): Stihl 46RCX Oregon 27R Oregon 27RA (skip link version of above) Granberg (adapted Carlton chain) Granberg Ripping Chain | Granberg International What's the best? They all work pretty well if sharpened correctly.
  21. I'd not advise using 3/8 lo pro with the MS880 as all the lo pro chain have only ever been designed for use on smaller chainsaws. The 660 (90cc) is the max really and even then some argue should not be used on this. Also although it will work with a standard 3/8" sprocket or rim. I've tried and it peens/damages the drive links which in turn will widen the bar groove. Also you can't get a long bar with an .050 guage for the 880. For the 660 you can get the logosol 36" bar (the only one in existence as far as I have found).
  22. Only a couple of times when they've had a hip op or similar but otherwise no.
  23. When I started I did this but always drew a blank so gave up and people never seemed to be pleased to hear back from you....! The customer called you asking if you'd quoted so it's not as if he'd given the job to the other fellow. So I'd say you're in the right.... it's just like he was calling for another quote!
  24. What a great offer
  25. I voted but I think to clinch the deal some swim suit or lingerie snaps would be good...! There's a clear winner though in... Vote For Tom From London | Next Model Competition 2011 | Next Official Site
