  1. Stihl are good machines but could be a whole lot better. But they come across as such a smug, we are the best company, we will dictate exactly what you do or you won't sell our products. I'd love to see them knocked down a peg or 2. You've got to be able to suck the dust off an 880 filter to be a dealer with them these days!
  2. I'm charging £100-00 a cubic meter for hardwood this year! And there's lots of others that'll be doing the same. (although if people buy 2 cubes it's a tenner off).
  3. Hopefully the moderators will see this thread and get rid of it... posts like this are almost like a type of forum spam. I can see you've registered and just whacked on a couple of threads to advertise yourself. Advertise in the firewood directory. If you're going to start a thread like this at least introduce yourself properly, tell us how you process, season and deliver logs so you're contributing to the forum. :sneaky2:
  4. Granberg ripping chain £61-92, Oregon £46-44, Stihl £54-18. All + vat.

This is for the 59" Stihl bar as I have no 72" bars left and won't be getting more for a while.

The only other bar I have is 84"!

  5. Typically I just sold my last 72" bar... trouble is they're really hard to get hold of as now I need to order 20 at a time and I only sell 5 or so a year so not sure if I'll be getting any more. I do have 59" Stihl roller nose bars though and also Cannon 60".

56" Alaskan (with bracing), oiler and Stihl 59" bar would be £575-00 inc vat and postage. This doesn't include ripping chain though....

  6. Yes I do Lee. It's £240-00 + vat to you (taking account of arbtalk discount), Rob

You may also want the oiler kit at £36-00 + vat as well.

  7. Sorry but straight away from this post I would not employ you as the above smacks of a 'bad attitude'. No one is pigeon holing anyone and starting a post 'you are all missing my point' is a sure way to irritate any potential employers out there. You would only be 'working for nothing' for a day or two to max in order to show someone you'll work hard so it's not a completely pointless exercise.
  8. I've tried a lot of things but never managed to keep the sapwood white. You may be able to use a clear polyester type varnish.... But I always find the sapwood goes a little yellow no matter what. Lovely bit of wood by the way
  9. Great work indeedy! Did you cut the mortices with a chainsaw? They look pretty accurate....
  10. Big ol tree!
  11. I'm guessing your saw will use .325 .058 in which case Stihl do RMC (Rapid micro comfort) and also RSC (Rapid Super comfort).
  12. When you look at different chains you have to bear in mind that both Stihl and Oregon do a range of chain in the same sizes. Some are full chisel, some micro chisel, some semi-chiesel, some have a lot of kickback reducing features etc so to get a true comparison you need to compare like for like. All Granberg ripping chain is modified Carlton chain. I've used it and sold it for 5 years and although it maybe isn't quite as good as Stihl and Oregon chain it's not that far off. A blind testing between chains would be good!
  13. That would be a better phrase you're right!
  14. It's a lot harder than you think. Items under 500g can be sent Royal Mail to all UK for the same price. Over this and the couriers come in but their list of postcodes that have applicable surcharges is long. Adding an item to your basket, prompt for postcode will work but the website would have to have a weight calculator that then matched the postcode with weight of your basket. So straight away every item has to have an accurate weight and a postcode database to calculate an accurate postage. Add £1000-00 min to your website cost! Also bear in mind large companies can send the same parcel for 30% of what it costs a smaller company. So for many (inc me!) I cannot offer free delivery.
  15. Ditto above! And have replied to your PM Brian.
  16. Stop holding back Tom - you love the Alaskan - all that lovely sawdust to play in afterwards!!
  17. I hear what you're saying but this has to be in the "small print" or on a separate page somewhere because of practicality. I have a list an A4 page long of surcharge areas but you couldn't put this on your website homepage.
  18. To be fair if you have the IV postcode you know you will pay the surcharge because the seller has to pay the surcharge so why grumble?
  19. Yes ... excellent!
  20. Get up.. go surfing (and I'll be good as I'll be in each day)... bit of work... round of golf... bit more work... another surf then a few beers.
  21. Cannot believe it went through that easy... great post!
  22. I've had a lot of dealings with walnut in the last year. If you are lucky you may get £50 for that. The myth about walnut being worth fortunes is just that - a myth pure and simple. The right walnut is worth good money but these trees are very rare. They need to be shake free, excellent colour, small sap ring and knot free.
  23. What you have to realise about wood worm is that the holes are caused by the adult beetle leaving the wood not the woodworm going in (you hardly notice where they go in). When they're ready to mate they turn from worms into beetles and chew their way out. You may see adult beetles going in and out of old woodworm holes but these ones will be laying eggs. I looked into it in some detail on the net. There's a couple of pics here alaskan mill I home of the portable chainsaw mill Woodworm is in the wood in worm form for I think (depends on type) 3 to 5 years before they turn into beetles and tunnel out. A good rule of thumb is if the conditions are right for wood worm you will have wood worm. Bringing contaminated wood into a house will not do anything if there's no conditions for it to spread.
  24. Hope you get through it ok... can't imagine what it must be like.
