  1. Come on - a thread like this is always going to lead into debate. What's wrong with it going into a debate anyway?
  2. I'm not a Christian but there are some very good messages in the Bible. Even written 2000 years ago there's still some good stuff there.... Do have spiritual inclinations though - I feel there is something after life... but no idea what.... Interesting that you were a Jehovahs witness Dave - how do you view those times now?
  3. The people in charge of thinning out the deadwood are usually the ones most in need of thinning! Same as the NHS and other massive organisations it's about looking after fellow back scratchers rather than doing what you're paid to be doing.
  4. Very impressive indeed - was it an Alaskan you milled it with? If it were this would be a great project to have on my user page.... if it wasn't then regardless a fine achievement
  5. I've used a polytunnel for 3 years drying firewood. Works very well - cheap and fast wood drying (although still takes a few months to get the moisture content right down). No messing about when pulling dry bags out in whatever weather. I'd highly recommend a dedicated bag carrier that works on a forklift. You can then double stack and it's more stable. Really you need one of the types that have straight meshed sides. The ones where the polythene stretches all the way over right to the ground you could have mould problems unless you have some pretty dedicated fans pulling air though.
  6. Thanks - I'll offer a blade sharpen after I'm done to the joinery shop.
  7. As said in another thread you're getting some real emotion/feelings in these recent carvings - for example the expression on the woman's face in this one - in a way quite 'haunting' - superb! Keep posting!
  8. Chainsaw milled a 20 ft log - wouldn't want to go longer - you never seem to be getting anywhere!
  9. No worrys - cheers for the pics.
  10. Have sent a PM as I'd be interested in buying it off you! Looks a nice butt.
  11. I can't see the attraction of camper vanning.... Unless you're using it all the time I can see it being expensive to buy, expensive to maintain and most of the time it'll sit there doing nothing.... ....then when you do want to use it there'll always be something that won't work! My younger brother got a Mazda Bongo last year Mazda bongo, ford freda, mazda Bongo for sale, mazda bongo conversions at Algys Autos ltd and proved this theory correct!
  12. Superb work - there's a real sense of 'presence' with these carvings... very much look like something that's been alive then frozen... ... prob doesn't make much sense! Very good indeed.
  13. Wow - looks good. Might consider a crack at making something like the first pic one day!
  14. Yes I'll put up a thread on quarter sawing soon... am using chainsaw mills to cut into quarters then the Peterson to resaw.... but there is a another way to do it using only chainsaw mills.
  15. Like to do it but wouldn't have much of a clue how to go about it.... couldn't see the pics by the way!
  16. £20 for a chain on a 4ft bar sounds about right.... sounds a lot but it is a fair amount of work.... on a 16" bar there will be around 30 teeth, on a 4ft bar 70 teeth...
  17. That's good going! I like a foot of bar poking out the other side to make sure I don't cut through the hinge!
  18. Most likely down to poor chain sharpening and or worn bar.
  19. If you're doing some milling with it I'd hang onto it.... As long as it's reliable and you're not having to tinker with it I'd keep it and get a 660 as well. After a month or 2 if you then think 'really not going to use the 070 anymore' sell it then - they are hard to find in good nick. Personally I'd keep it and leave it on the mill and have it expressly as a milling saw.
  20. Sent an e-mail to TRADA the experts on timber ref selling as firewood - they said 'odd choice for firewood but yes it's fine to use' Which is handy as the pile I have a good third of it will be firewood in the end. Not had much more time to mill any but am going to do a load for a floor for my brother in his cellar....
  21. As above about a £100 to £120

    346 xp chain

See if you can ID the chain using info on the bar. You want the pitch (prob .325) guage (prob 1.3mm/.050 or 1.5mm/.058) and the number of drive links to get a new chain. Examples here Chain | bar | sprocket identification 2
  23. About right I reckon - I think the Peterson takes around the same time to get set up.... can be fiddly getting it out the trailer as I tend to leave the blade on to save time - this leaves only a cm or so clearance but has worked fine so far....
  24. Looks good - how long would you say it takes to set up the Lucas in a place like that?
