  1. H&S risk assessment showed that we might run out of fuel so we thought of hot embers and a few blowers on the go instead. And all teams are bare foot ! LOL:biggrin:
  2. Log rolling in a pool next. Always wanted to have a go at that for the crack. You never know !!!!
  3. Thanks mate, it could be interesting !
  4. No the trophy for Friday should read before beer and is separate from the saturday trophy which is after beer. There will be two team trophys, these could be defended at Capel, again at APF, again at Arb fair north and again at Jonesies next year If Arbtalk members want to keep it going and at the same time keep raising a bit for a good cause. We may add a twist to make it more fun !
  5. First 3 teams sorted !
  6. Open to all attending next weeks show on 15th and 16th July and in a good cause there will be a tug of war competition. All you have to do is make a 5 man/woman team up, pay your entrance fee of £10.00 per team [which all goes to charity] and take part in the announced event which will be on both days. A trophy per day is there to win and of course the winning teams will have to defend their titles at the next Arb event that continues the challenge. So lets be avin you, this will be fun, no doubt try to be competitive and we'll see who's got pulling power. Register your team at the Arbtalk stand and listen out for the announcements of the rounds, semi's and the final which should pull the crowd on both days. As mentioned all monies raised will be presented to charity. See you at Jonesies show
  7. Thats my boy ! Finally got him on here, he has sort of grown up in the industry as Dad has always had saws and kit about.
  8. i got rid of these unwanted calls by joining the TPS for free see Telephone Preference Register - Prevent unwanted telephone calls they register you and if you conitinue to get unwanted calls they take action against the sender, i only have to say i'm in the TPS and the caller hangs up as they have to work within the law.
  9. Try removing chain and bar and servicing the bar, dress the rails, check the nose sprocket, clean the grooves out, if the rails are even and not burred rotate the bar and put back on making sure you clear the oil way holes. Next check your chain, have you taken down the rakers [depth guages] too much do you have wear on the chassis and or heal of the tie straps ? next check your sprocket is it worn excessively are the tie straps shiny on the chain and the drive links hooked. Clear away the chain brake so it can't build up heat and rebuild then check tension to half a link and snap back plus you can move with both hands the chain around the bar. If you have the same problem go and get a link taken out as suggested. But if the link count on the bar matches with the chain then count the drive links again just to be sure.
  10. PM Gollum on here he will advise you and he's in Kent

  14. Hi Blount [Oregon] own Carlton and i'll give you an overview which i hope will put a perspective on the difference between the two brands. Carlton company was formed by ex Oregon people who went their own way the factory is also in Portland Oregon USA, Carlton chain is much like the old style Oregon chain from years back and has been used as a budget chain IMO from the Blount group for many applications from domestic saws to Harvester chain. I have in my career worked for two Carlton distributors in the UK as well as Blount for the last 10 yrs, the main difference in manufacturing is that the cutters are ground sharp prior to chain assembly and each rivet is lubricated on assembly. Carlton's range of chain mirrors that of Oregon but doesn't have what we call full feature technology, until recently we [blount UK] also sold Chipmaster brand as a budget range which was made in the Carlton factory. Todays saw mfg are looking for low cost entry point chain to bring the saw to market and Carlton is chosen by some for this reason, the same old technology is used for the Husky chain we make for them, this leaves the latest spec chain sold by Oregon dealers which is faster, has more features and the new X grind cutters that are 15% more faster at cutting and clearing. So old technology [for the time being at least] v Oregon and as the special steel used to make chainsaw chain has just rocketed in price all chainsaw chain will have to increase in price so Carlton will not be so cheap in the future. Sam [the main man at Carlton for over 25 yrs] taught me a lot about chain and i have the greatest respect for "Mr Carlton" who is now retired and living in the south in the USA. Thats my view. Les
  15. Hi Of the 200 + chains Oregon make some are heavily guarded and don't perform like the pro chains, i am the Oregon area mgr for NI and invite you to try the latest pro chains like 22BPX and 22LPX .325 chains and 75LPX 3/8 chain for your saws amongst many others, PM me your number and town and i'll direct you to the nearest Oregon dealer. Once you have tried these X chains i would appreciate your comments here on Arbtalk.
  16. Yes thats the one, pictures will follow when next in area unless anyone local can stick them up here sooner. Thanks for the link to this website.
  17. Hi all For those who live in Hants, Surrey and Sussex you may have seen this enormous ancient tree in the services at Petersfield next to the A3/A272 junction, sorry no pics but will get some. Can anyone local or with knowledge tell us more ? No one at the Garage, Mcdonalds, Premier Inn or Table restaurent knew anything but ALL said they were asked constantly and would like to know. I'd guess 10ft- 14ft across with several split features and hollows
  18. Latest news there is a 20 ton dead whale in Redcar Yorkshire, will Mick and Rich Rule get the call ? see BBC News - Sperm whale carcass to be removed from Redcar beach
  19. Hi I Have a Kona hard tail MTB for sale it's in good condition and will do what you want, it's only £300.00 so you can go and buy another saw with the rest of the money you would have spent. Or treat yourself. I also have a classic GT Team RTS [apparently once owned by Steve Peat] Full suspension super lightweight and on a 16" frame [so great for short legs of 29-32"] This is polished aluminium with bomb proof Mavic wheels which i would sell for £500.00 ono. If interested i'll post some pics. Les

  21. The choice is yours, i'm sure that both the badass and weird and wonderful will be at the show, can you take a pic of the Oregon stand for me ? Is there another show next year or just 2013 ? i Guess that one is Skogselmea and the other Elmea wood.
  22. I know i started this thread but sadly work is flat out so not this year, however as next year is the larger show and we have a year to plan ahead i will suggest those interested get it organised asap and booked [means i book holiday for that time] To wet the appetite can those who do attend this years smaller show post some pics
  23. stick that in the programme for all to see next time as as Andy Collins told me the Hog roast was so good, can we pre order for next time as well foe exhibitors and guests alike.
  24. After a 5 hour drive home with time to reflect on a busy two days at the Arb fair North thought i'd just put a few thanks on here. To Gustharts and Orange Plant for sticking their necks out to bring a new show for the industry to the North, the effort and plan was great attendance was very good for a first show i'd estimate at 600-700. To the Arbtalkers who visited the Oregon stand, it was good to meet you all. Thanks to all for the banter and great sense of humour especially the Arb teams from Newcastle city council. And to all fellow exhibitors who helped each other with the little things missed and forgotten and took turns to get the teas in etc. Overall a great show which will grow and i'm sure the next one will be bigger and have all the tweaks [like a bar on the site] for 2013. I think a regional Arbtalk games should happen at these shows, tug of war, Axe throwing, maybe even air guitar competition [we all know who will win that one ]
