  1. Yep i'd go along with that !!
  2. I'm there covering the North east region and supporting Gustharts for Oregon, come and say hi on the Oregon demo stand and so you can recognise me i am a slap head where as Steve is a long way off. I'll try to keep my sarf suvvern accent, unless the boys from Keelda turn up in which case i will ask for an interpreter and nod a few times.
  3. My youngest son who's an apprentice on the tools came home the other day with this saying which i believe was taught to him by a fellow Arb talk member Mike from Kent. "If an Ash gets leaves before an Oak we are in for soak, if an Oak gets leaves before an Ash we are in for a splash" Now strangely enough here in the south it hasn't rained much in two months and my Oak tree had leaves before the Ash trees at the back of my house, so could this be true ? What other wise old sayings can fellow Arbtalkers share ?
  4. You would think that the CCTV control would pick it up and alert the police. Hope you get it back, did you get the car reg as the ANPR camera's can track it, one call sets that up.
  5. anybody visit this show last week and have any photo's to share and an overview ? see http://www.ifw.show.ie
  6. Hi It is very different here in the UK to the USA, our police have no guns, no rights and there are not enough of them, shortly there will be even less as there is a movement to reduce all police during next 2 years as we can't afford to run them. I agree it is unacceptable that these thefts continue and have asked several times why the main manufacturer's don't start a national register which would be linked to an international register of all machines with a stamped code including area code details put onto the main chassis at time of sale. This is not a hard thing to do, it would mean that any machine outside it's area would alert the register and if all specialist dealers joined only spare parts would be sold to bona fida machines from bona fida dealers. This would mean that keeping a nicked machine going would be a problem and reduce the appeal, the risk of being caught would be greater and any machine out of it's area would be reported to police unless the user could show ID. Now anyone interested to lobby Stihl, Husky, all chipper companies, stump grinder mfg's to put this in place. it would mean brand stamping, and again all dealers uploading the sale details to the mfg company concerned, this database itself would pay for the exercise as they could use the info to market new products. Of course this would mean that any machine tampered with was dodgy and any dealer caught supplying parts for a machine without a registration would lose their dealership. I work in the industry for Blount [Oregon] supplying dealers throughout the UK and i can tell you that they are fed up being robbed too and would welcome this move. If the machines go abroad then the same applies, this would give the thieves something to think about. It's not a solution but it would cause any would be buyer to consider that they might get caught and their machine reported to the Police.

  8. Hi there are a few things you can try check the blades are not dulled as this causes extra wear on your belt check the pulleys and back idler pully for contamination, de grease and clean right up checking for wear on one side more than the other, if uneven replace the pulley as it will only grab a part of the belt. Check pitch of belt if it is matched with the pulleys, you could try an Aramid [Kevlar] belt they sit further into the V and are generally stronger. The spring on the tensioner may have taken a knock. What size belt in section and inches do you run i.e B75 = 5/8 belt 75" long or 5L x 75". Les
  9. Hi Can anyone going to capel show stick a couple of 4ftlong x 4"-6" wide logs in the back of their truck for me, delivery to the Oregon demo stand, i only need a few to cut up in a demo. Pm me if you can help ! a T shirt per log as payment. Les
  10. Hi Steve, this just proves that this is a live test, i am sorry that these didn't fit the way you like either, as you explain neither did highflex i presume your long legs and narrow frame mean you have gotten used to the Stretch air fit. So i will need to arrange to collect the two pairs from your house if someone is available during the day or you take them to the Post office and i will repay the postage. This means i am looking for another tester, let me ask that they are or have used highflex trousers. Now to answer the price question Oregon Waipoua type C rrp £183.00 Stihl Highflex type C rrp £220 Keep the braces of course with compliments:biggrin:
  11. Look at Cheffins machinery auctions in cambridge and Bristol, big list at both. see Cheffins - Estate Agents, Property Advisors and Auctioneers and see Used Machinery & Equipment | Used Tractors | Used Trailers | Used Trucks - Mascus UK There is also a machinery sale in Truro a lot of dealers use. The sales lists for MOD and ex council machines can be found locally, but local dealers to you will have the machines you want so ask them.
  12. Hi, Give Wayne a ring on 01273 305055 office hours and see TreeTrunksUK - Tree Surgery, Logs, Mulch, Hire, 24 Hour Emergency Cover Tel him Les from Oregon told you about him If he can't help you i know of others as well so feel free to PM me
  13. So once our two Arbtalk testers have given their first opinion they next report after first wash, then at 4 weeks, then every 4 weeks, this way you will get the performance over time. It will be told like it is.
  14. No problem i sent you a small size as you said you were a 32" waist !! So a large will follow, [thats up to 36" waist size] keep the braces and let us all know first impression.
  15. Next test Andy you can be the eastern victim er i mean evaluation technician ! Bet we get some Western applications next !
  16. Hi, would Stephen Blair and Mark Bolam please PM me their choice of A or C trouser and waist size if you are both available and willing to wear a new pair of chainsaw trousers for a month and give us your opinion both on Arbtalk and direct to me. A comparison of like priced similiar trousers can be made as well. It would be unfair to compare them against twice the price garments. So i invite you to take part, this way we have one North and one South. Les
  17. Chainsaw trouser Eutopia Replaceable outers waterproof for winter and breathable for summer versions and maybe high viz as well. optional type A and C csaw protection layers, all replaceable components. Optional sealed pockets optional leg lengths from 30" to 36" The drying horse to hang them after washing to prevent heat damage. This way a system would allow you to adapt to the weather, the job and if you ripped the outer you replace it. Now to do this would mean every component gets tested on its own and in pairs of inner and outer, this would add a lot of money to any potential mfg project. The fastening method from c/saw layer to outer would also need to be tested and approved by whatever method but it must be a fixed connection. If and it's a big "if" what would you pay for such a system ? All new developments and ideas start with the evaluation Define the objective Examine the options Consider the outcome Investigate it Do it Evaluate And the dosh to make it happen
  18. It's a Sabo Roberine now owned by John deere
  19. 0 = 16m/s [metres per second] 1 = 20m/s 2 = 24m/s 3 = 28m/s Gloves are virtually all 0 Most trousers class 1 some class 2 and very few class 3 but those i've seen are just too stiff and unworkable in general IMO
  20. Hiflex are made with schoeller, if it withstands more tearing why do most wearers end up looking like tea bags ?
  21. I will duly send on the comments although i imagine velcro fastening wouldn't give the protective layer a stable hold in the event of having to warp and weft across a chain. Now as we are in a forum of like minded people lets get your like minded comments down for the list of features you would want to see on the ultimate trousers be them A's C's or other variations. These will be passed down to all the mfg and distributors on here so lets hear it. Target price Belt /braces Buttons front position zip fly pockets how many position depth pocket flaps secured with reinforced areas stretch areas repair options expected life span of trouser wash frequency drying method waterproofing ? breathable vent zips no seam crutch inner shell layer weight Tight/loose fit ? leg length options sizes ? standard long colours visibility aids class 0,1,2,3 of protection material preferred method of purchase shop try on show try on internet know your size Now help those to help you for this thread is there for all to see. And how many will be wearing A's in the summer and C's in the winter ?
  22. Well it seems the trend demands don't meet the usage demands from your comments. For years beaver nylon outer shells were chosen as hard wearing and forgiving, then every one wanted stretchy, so Schoeller and other type material fitted this demand but the downside was it rips more easily. Chainsaw protective layers were designed originally like quilts, now 5 and 6 layers are very thin and lightweight and more comfortable to wear and a lot more expensive from the few manufacturers that make them. The costs of bringing a garment to market have quadrupled and test houses get their share. Now the rules on stitching the layers of protection to the outer garment are strict, you cannot interupt the flow of the chainsaw layers to dismantle on impact, hence why you can only repair the outer shell with a patch. Take a look at the new trousers on the market like Waipoua A's and C's from yes you guessed it !! available now from most of the major Arb dealers in the UK.
  23. Emil Lerp and he tested it on mount Dolmar in Germany hence the name of the saw. When i worked for Sachs Dolmar we were told it was in 1926. Good old Dolmar. Did you know that Danarm helped the first nylon crankcase production and many other firsts in chainsaw evolution. How about we create a chainsaw museum forum with pictures, this would be a global collection and would give a reference point for those seeking the historical background of the industry ?
  24. If anyone is driving down the A23 towards Brighton when you drop down the hill after Handcross look on the left hand side. There is a mature Oak with both major boughs split away lying on either side of the tree, it is a rare sight, one day i'll pull into the Staplefield side road and walk around to get the photo, unless someone on here is close by and can do it.
  25. Fuel filter partially blocked, exhaust blocked [check spark arrestor mesh] and as stated before, plug, coil, carb tuning. Whats the compression like ? If it fires and dies under load either fuel, air/compression or spark is faulty, step by step eliminate the options, what carb did you fit ? and at what settings ?
