  1. If your for real, then I will see you at your yard next time it is about to rain... If you are takin' the pi55, I wouldn't have been working for you anyway.
  2. I think it can work both ways. These days I only work for people who I respect and know they wont extract the urine. As I said it works both ways, I never ask what a job is the day before. Sometimes the job spec is unworkable in the weather conditions. If alternative work can be organised then alls good, if not and they decide to call it off they usually offer petrol money or sometimes I just say don't worry, I wont charge you and go home. I'd love to be able bill them for the missed days work (but I don't) but it wouldn't prove much. Someone else said if you cannot afford to have a day off here or there then you need to wind your lifestyle in or charge more. Some guys have paid me for the days regardless, which is nice. On the other hand, I have turned up to jobs and have had a horrendous night with the kids. (One is 5 and the other 18 months) waking up 4-5 times with a screaming bairn isn't gonna help much the day after. Most understand and quite often offer the chance for other work or to go home. Depending on the situation I may take them up on it or just crack on... usually dependant on how important the job is. As I said it works both ways. I climb and people pay me good money, in return I earn them good money. It is a partnership I enjoy on the most part. I would like to add though, I rarely, if ever do work for people who take the pi55. If they do then I only work for them once or twice. Luckily I have been freelancing for quite sometime now and am able to choose who I work for.
  3. I dismantled a sugar maple in the summer. The guy I climbed for wanted it in as big a lumps as possible. He hired a Manitou to get the sticks on the back of the 7.5 tonner. He did two trips with timber alone. Not quite sure what he was to do with it but they were in a right mess after they were skidded out. As was the customers garden.
  4. I dont think you have ever been able to post direct from an Ipad or Iphone without Tapatalk. I have never been able in the past. Nice shots though David.
  5. To a tight ersed Northerner that is like a second mortgage!
  6. TDS correctly and no not should come undone until it is time to do so. For the record I use a splice. I do use a scaffold or single fishermans to hold and orientate the krab in the correct position on rigging lines.
  7. Do you not think the spikes were on there as he might have had to spike the tree..? There was a small gopro or similar on the trunk. As the tree didnt go down all too well they didnt used much of the footage. When they dragged the sucker out it was plain to see. Maybe there was a simple explanation for the spikes.
  8. On the self employed front, can you not do an additional module that incorporates saw use and that should suffice as refresher training? You have to pay, so might as well get something out of it. For example if you haven't done cs41 as a climber then it incorporates all the other climbing and aerial cutting aspects. Plus you get to charge more on your day rate.
  9. He ain't got time to take pics..! Clearup to do, dollars to earn!
  10. Does your pantin not fit on the outside of your spikes?
  11. I grabbed a pair of these a couple of months back cannot fault them. Very comfy and grippy. Aku Cresta GTX. (Not the Weg GTX) I had a bit of trouble tracking a pair down and ended up buying from a outdoors shop nr Windemere. I think Nod is getting more in though soon. Hope this helps.
  12. ive used one a number of times on an old 044. Worked really well. Do you really need a saw the size of a 64?
  13. done.
  14. Just had a text from Bolam... Snowing in Northumberland!
  15. Damn, doesn't work on mobile.
  16. I was once given the advice to buy a raffle ticket that evening. She was an old Romany lady who claimed I looked the spitting image of her grandson. She was even more shocked when she found out my name, as her Grandson was called Richard also. She wouldn't leave it and insisted that I get a ticket as all the things were telling her... I didn't win that weekend, but then again, I didn't buy a ticket!
  17. Just climb it... or tie the top section of an aframe ladder horizontal across the top to stop it falling through the middle. Your instructor? I presume you are at college then? They will tell you a lot of thing not to do but in reality you have to get on with it and earn some coin. Welcome to the real world. This ain't college anymore.
  18. I usually wear a base layer in winter and t shirt of whichever company i am climbing for that day. must admit i do feel the cold as there is not a lot of natural layering going on... quite often I wear a fleece or jacket up the tree till i get going and then peel the layers off.
  19. 8 year old MS200t, used daily. At least it was until I snapped the go trigger last week. Tickled by Spud and runs like a scalded greyhound!
  20. I passed my CSCS quite some time ago. We hadn't received cards so it was followed up. In the time taken to issue the cards the scheme changed and now they are trying to charge for the new scheme. Jog on!
  21. I do believe it has changed mate.
  22. I passed mine ages ago but have never been sent a card. When they chased it up they said the scheme had changed and we had to do a occupation specific test again. Jog on! The debate as to wether we need to sit it again remains. Meanwhile I still dont have a card or number. Saying that, I have never been asked for it!
  23. A few years back I was rj'ing a London plane in Blackheath. Some posh bint (Hyacinth Bucket type) came over as I was up the tree and asked who was in charge. The owner of the company stopped sawing, lifted his earmuff and asked politely if he could help her. She went into a rant about how she was the head of the local society, conservation and environmental group, local councillor, head of the WI etc, etc... 'Why wasn't I informed?!?' To which, the dude I was working for, responding by telling her not to be too disappointed, but she wasn't actually as important as she thought she was! He then put his ear defender down and started up the saw... Haha.!!!
  24. If your working in Battersea and it will take 3 men a whole day to get the job done. Then you want to be charging anywhere between 750 and 900. I.e. 250 - 300 GBP per man per day. As for going through the house... par for the course on a lot of London Jobs. Ply line the walls and place a dust sheet over that. Old stair carpet is great for laying down and easy to roll up at completion. or just put down dust sheets. Sned everything as straight as you can, twigs catch a lot on things and can mark paintwork or fabric. Get a builders sack - ton bag - whatever you want to call it. Sned the branches up and then lay them all but first on the bag, when you think there is enough, roll the bag up and kneel on it. Now put some more on the bag. When you close it roll the top edge a few times for a handle and then grabb away. Easy enough to lift over things and get round tight bends inside properties. The easiest jobs I have ever done though the house were for a guy, who at quote stage used to compliment the HO on how nice their decor was etc etc. He would then go on to say although we will try our utmost to not mark anything, it might be worth their while to nip to tesco and get some boxes for door corners/frames, masking tape and some plastic. Sometime we would turn up and the house was already like a CSI crime scene, leaving us to do the important bit... getting the tree out without spending an hour setting up. As for the tax question, I don't think you'll be inside the C charge zone, but are definitely within the LEZ. Charges will deoend on the exact location and age of your vehicle.
  25. I love Stihl, but I also love Husky. Just use whatever works. I cannot believe people get so emotional over a brand.
