A bit like the RangeRovers being one of the easiest cars to clone the key and steal, on top of being desirable. The more that are stolen the more sales / replacement units paid for by the insurance companies. Hence they have no incentive to try and reduce the levels of theft.

Merry Christmas. Here in Norway they celebrate on the 24th. The dried, smoked salted Lambs ribs are rehydrating. The swede and carrot mash is almost done and the tatties almost boiled to within an inch of their life. We went out for a nice family walk in the woods whilst it was still light. Found a nice Moose antler shed. Kira is now pooped out on the sofa. Keeping in the spirit of Chrimbo, there is a reflection of the tree in the window 😜

Yes I think there is a mistake or misunderstanding somewhere. Norwegians know how to work in the cold and the ice grip are recommended by Arb suppliers over here for some of the best grip and dexterity in winter work scenarios. Therein lies the rub. I could very easily where my -40c black diamond mittens but opening bina’s would be a bit of a faff.

Kram, do you have a link to the pfanner stats you posted a couple of posts ago. I’ve been looking in the Outerwear site and the pfanner site and can’t find anything. Those Orange Tegera are pretty good until they get too sweaty then they just turn a bit rank IME.

We get a quite a few options for cold weather working gloves here in Norway. The ones with the latex on the back tend to keep your hands wet as the sweat doesn’t evaporate. Hence I use cotton backed ones. Depending on the temps I might change the pfanner ice grip out midday. But the cold is pretty dry here, if that makes sense: 2 degrees and rain is much worse to work in than -10 and dry IME.

I have noticed you appear to ignore any advice you are given as you always think you know better. Regarding to Mapa gloves, I looked them up. Are you sure you weren’t comparing to the regular planners and not the ice grip? They don’t look like they are suited for cold weather work. I could be wrong.😜 Actually, speaking of knowing better. I probably shouldn’t have bothered writing this post as it will probably seen as advice rather than a discussion. So I expect it to be ignored. Merry Christmas.

Matty, I think it is safer than the pinto option IMO. I know they did the break testing years ago with the branch and pinto / alpine butterfly tie off and the branch broke before the kit. I find the quickie is easier to retrieve. A little bit more space and the loop of the butterfly doesn’t contact with the running end of the rope. Which I find happens with the pinto bina setup. 11mm rope. I also find that when you come to retrieve the pinto/bina option it can sometimes get stuck or Jammed other branches or unions. Usually when you don’t have a straight pull as you have come down a different route than the retrieval leg. Just my observations over the years of using both options.

Not exactly sure but the original (I assume v1) wasn’t CE certified. Matbe that is the difference? I have had one of the early ones since they came out. Still fine and climb on it today.

I used to buy those in the summer by the hundred as well. I used to get 4 days climbing out of them, sometime a day less, sometimes a day more.

Really? I cannot climb in any type of leather. Zero grip for me.

Are you not meant to be grabbing above the zigzag and not below it?

I used to buy them by the box of 100. Grey cotton gloves but with a blue latex dip on the palm. Sorry I cannot remember the brand but they worked out at about 23p a pair. I bought a box before I moved to Norway in 2017 and only ran out last year. I think it was @steve bullman who put me onto them. The Showa ones are pretty good. I do wear the pfanner ice grip over here in the winter and are a lot more grippier than the thin ones they do.

Each to their own mate. You want to grab and wrap around your wrist/arm go ahead. Personally it slows you down having to reset every time. Also makes you look like an amateur. There are better ways to climb that are more ergonomic and therefore better for your body. I am assuming this would be for body thrusting type of technique. I would find it hard to wrap your arm if you were climbing in a Vt, zigzag or any other hand over hand style technique. Ill just wear a decent pair of gripper gloves and climb away. I have never understood how someone can do this job professionally and not have decent grip and arm strength. I am probably 85kg in me pants. Stick PPE and kit on and it will be over 100kg. Will I ever need to wrap a rope around my arm? absolutely not. I climb SRT and use a pantin along with decent gloves. It is a decent rule to remember

Those gloves are crap Bill. Get some decent grippers and it will work wonders. Also, never wrap a rope around anything you are not prepared to lose.

I would get it off the root plate first. Check how much rot/shake is in the but and then decide if it worth the expense for milling. By expense I mean buying a new, larger saw or getting someone to mill it for you.

I usually do it twice a day. morning and evening. 3 sets of 7-8 reps. I first bought the green flexbar and it was agony so I ordered the slightly less resistance ‘red’ one. I continued through the pain with the green and by the time the red one arrived it seems a bit pointless. Too easy. I just use the green one whenever I need to. I guess the number of reps would be directly related to how easy the exercise feels. Those numbers work for me. I had a tinge of it come back about 2 weeks ago after climbing large trees in the rain and snow. I started doing the exercises again and after a long weekend it felt a lot better. When I got the flexbar I was having a really bad episode of tennis elbow. I went on holiday for 3 weeks and did the exercises every day and probably the rest and the exercises combined helped recovery.
