  1. What sort of Aga burns wood??????????????????
  2. Was he happy to just drop it and walk?? I did on for a guy I sort of know, it was a big old Ash, pretty much dead (water logged roots), it was very slightly weighted away from his garden and house. I was a straight fell, but needed to be cut properly with a big gob. I was not prepared to leave it for him to break down the crown, I cut every thing so it was sat flat on the floor. I did not want him getting hurt. Had a coffee with him, whole job took around half an hour (including sharpening my saw) Charged him £100, he was more than happy
  3. Nice job Rupe!! Will you be keeping all the timber?? Do you retail fire would??
  4. It was a joke, Willow and Pop are sometimes referred to as "Yellow Ash", because its poor fire wood.
  5. You clearly did not read the forum rules, foul language it not wanted or permitted.
  6. No you didn't mate. Its only every 2 years, so there wasn't one last year.
  7. That sounds nasty!!!! How far did you fall?? Hope your fully recovered real soon.
  8. Normally ask them to be there in the morning to run through the job again, if they can't I just talk the job through with them on the phone.
  9. Great pic's!! It looks like a strange way to hold the saw??, apart from the obvious safety points, it just doesn't look very efficient.
  10. Almost never do written quotes, only if they ask for one. Always agree a price, shake their hand and always get paid. I agree with you Dean, I think people tend to live up to your expectations, treat them as honest and trust worth and the will be. I hate paper work, takes me all my time to get round to doing invoices, don't need the hassle of quotes as well.
  11. If a motorist is speeding and has a crash, do the insurers refuse too pay out??? Is it not the same situation???
  12. I do think ladders make you look a little less professional. People always expect us to have some, when we just use rope and harness they seem amassed. When I throw the rope they often say "you've done that before" (and I ain't that good) I think when they see someone going up a ladder they think thats something they could do and makes our work look a little less skilled. These are only my thoughts, I sure many or most will disagree. I just like the fact that I can carry a smallish bag round the back of a house and have everything I need to climb a 100ft tree.
  13. ALL saws already have ID, its called a serial number. If its been ground off the front, split the engine, its stamped in there I believe.
  14. Kudos???????????? How so??? Any one can join, does "Kudos" not come from an accomplishment of some kind?
  15. To be honest you don't get a great deal from being a member IMO. I used to be one, but I felt so let down by their stance on the working at heights reg (among other things) that I did not renew my member ship.
  16. :confused1:Do you not read posts before you quote them????????
  17. I know they are not that expensive, and that make the filling and painting of rotten ones all the more reprehensible .
  18. Mark I take your point regarding the cab going over, but how can you tell the condition of the wing reinforcing if someone has filled and painted the wings?? I have seen what look like good wings crumple once the cab starts being tipped.
  19. I would not have said that the TO would not allow it (even if I know thats the case). If you say you can't do the job, you become the bad guy. I would get the TO to have a site meeting with me and the client, then when the TO says no he's the bad guy not you At this point possible felling and replacing can be discussed, then its not you trying to make more money, its you trying to get the client what they want. Also most clients will not feel they can ignore the TPO after a meeting with the TO, as their usual defense is to plead ignorance. If the TO won't have a meeting with you, send in an application (even though you know it has no chance, give the TO a ring and tell him why you are making a daft application) then when the refusal arrives its still the TO or the system that bad not you.
  20. I bet they haven't been sweating for the last month
  21. Thanks for that!! Very helpful!!!
