  1. Takes minuets with a sharp file, IMPE. This thread makes no sense, IMO, look at the pic of the bar at the start of the thread, it looks knackered and is burred to hell, I only file off the burs when I fit a new chain and I never get that much bur. I have 2 year old bars with more paint on than this one.
  2. I have a look at the job, give them a ballpark figure of what its likely to cost, if they commit to me doing the job I will do the paper work.
  3. IMHO, stump grinding is about winning work not making money. I have 2 they have both won me loads of work but neither has made me rich.
  4. I never do any work unpaid, I want the job before I will start anything.
  5. How I wish that were true!!!!
  6. He only transplanted them because their no good for fire wood and too big for Gloria!!!!
  7. If you read my earlier post I stated that small gobs were about saving timber, not safety. We a discussing felling to get the tree down here, not to produce timber.
  8. I would say the opposite is true. If a tree is a heavy back leaner (with most of the crow behind the hinge) I would want a high pulling line rather than wedges.
  9. Only just seen this mate, really sorry to hear about this!!!! Glad your getting sorted!!
  10. Have a nice time mate!!!
  11. Can you try and get me a 66 with the new caps please!!!!
  12. Sounds like there was insufficient hinge. If you are happy doing things your way great. I have never had a tree go back on me. I was asking for an explanation as to why the tree will become "unbalanced" by a large gob. I believe small gobs are a leftover from conserving timber and have very little to do with safe felling.
  13. If you cut a bigger gob you will require less lifting force from the wedges, as you have gained mechanical advantage by moving the fulcrum back. If you think you may hit the hinge simple bore cut out a path for the wedge.
  14. Please explain how a larger gob can "compromise balance"?????
  15. If the tree is cause a real safety hazard, then yes you may be OK, but all other work will wait until they have finished nesting.
  16. I think comunication is the key!!! I don't charge for removing the timber unless its a long drag, I tell them the timber is only worth the time and trouble it takes me to move it. I always check with them the night before if we are removing the timber, so if I take a trailer because they said I was having the wood, they would need to cover my costs if they then choose to keep it.
  17. They are protected, I was talking to an expert on such things yesterday, it turns out that to shoot birds on the vermin list you have to have a good reason. You need to be able prove they are causing a genuine problem, IE eating your crops.
  18. Its amassing what a two man crew and the desire to get the job done can come up with!!! To many people just say "we need another man" or "another rope" or "it can't be done". It will be your can do attitude and thinking out side the box, that has led to your great success!!! Nice one Stevie and thanks for sharing!!!
  19. Yes I would say Sasmo. They make chip the size of big lumps of coal, you can shovel it onto your fire. The one I tried had no blade, the screw cut most of the way though and then a lump of steel on the flywheel batted the end off.
  20. Rubbish!!! Mines bigger than that ( I can drive my mog through it ) I paid under £2K erected, 5 years ago. I can give you their number if you want mate.
  21. Can't believe you've said that there will be no living with him now!!!!! Joking aside thats very slick Stevie
  22. Top stuff as ever Mike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
