Have you considered a tungsten carbide chain?? If all your timber is woodland grown (so very little chance of steel) and skidded, it could well be worth the extra cost.
  4. OK so he is clearly a bit thick, but I would guess he thinks you are a wholesaler and is thinking of buying from you.
  5. A sharp 66 with 25" bar and 8 tooth sprocket cuts plenty fast enough for me.
  6. WTF:confused1: Maybe I'll stop listening to radio 4 and just ring you each evening to keep up with things:001_rolleyes: A date has NOT been set, it may be set in 2016 I still pay 90% of my bills by cheque, with no problems at all.
  7. Your right 2018 is the proposed date and a decision on whether or not they will actually scrap cheques will be made in 2016.
  8. I bet that trophy was for shooting. Our Dean is a crack shot!!!!
  9. Legally speaking, if he works alone, nothing.
  10. That is normally the case, but the NFU did not want to know my turnover, which surprised me.
  11. Yes you are I have £10M EL, £5M PL, £7.5K small tools theft cover (new for old) Costs me £800 per year.
  12. Please!!! stop thinking like this!! if you don't you will spend the rest of your employed life bitter and resentfully. You could argue that by letting you cut down some of his trees he's letting you earn some of his money. He could just do them all him self. I presume he is a success, so he is allowing you to learn some of the things that make him a success. He's training what could soon turn into the competition. If you cock up, it will be his problem not yours. Its his reputation and advertising thats bringing in the work. I don't take on placement lads, as they really won't make me any money and I don't need the hassle. I think the lads that get a placement should try and see things from the Co owners point of view and show a little more appreciation for the fact that some are happy to give you a way into the industry.
  13. The way I see it is, he should just buy some of this "Ash", stick it on the fire. If it burns great!!! order more!! If its crap ring the supplier, if he is concerned about your lack of satisfaction try and come to some sort of arraignment with him, if he not interested tell him he's a crook and you will not be using him again!!
  14. Surely he must know what he's paying now???
  15. Stihl do an electric saw. I think electric saws are great!!!!
  16. I'm not sure I'm getting the best quality electric from Norweb!!!!, I'm sure they are shafting me!!! Can any one tell me what "good" electric looks like???????????
  17. With you now I have a solid fuel Aga, we burn anthracite, theres no way you could burn wood on it, apart from the fact that the fuel all goes in through a 5" hole in the hot plate, the flue gases pass through a hole not much bigger than a 50p, so would block up in no time on wood.
  18. TBH, I think the idea of agricultural tenancy's is that you need to live there in order to do you job, IE tend to your stock, or fell your trees. The fact that you go to other sites too work really means you could live else where and still do your work. I'm sure this is not what you want to hear, but I'm just trying to br honest I think its a real shame the council don't have better things to do. My advice would be stand you ground, plead ignorance and leave them to make all the moves, often if it not easy for them and a bit of a grey area, they may well loose interest. I really hope things work out.
  19. Very good point!! The inexperienced really do need bear in mind that there is aways far more going on in the execution of a good job than can be seen on ANY video.
  20. I was thinking that!! But thats where skill and experience come in!!!
