  1. I think it says "mostly evergreen", meaning if a hedge is of mixed species, but most are evergreen, its covered.
  2. This is not strictly true, many of our oldest trees are "pollards" that were "topped" when quite mature. The fact that their windsail is reduced, as is the leverage of large limbs, means that even though they are often hollow, they are structurally safe and still have flourishing canopies.
  3. Banana cuts can be caused just by the way you hold the saw, try holding the saw to counter act the curve.
  4. My understanding is that it must be more the two trees and they must be evergreen, there is a calculation for the maximum high based on distance from your house, for some one 5 doors down to fall with the legislation the trees would need to be huge and the gardens tiny, and even the the hight that could be set would be much higher than 2 M.
  5. I'm not talking about using a pole,(as in wind it would loose reception) often the dish is half way down the house wall, so moving it up the wall or onto the chimney could well solve the problem.
  6. You should always knock the burrs off, make the cutters stay sharp much longer. I just run a stick backward along all the teeth, both sides and the top.
  7. My first question would be where is the dish, it may be possible to simply move it higher up the building or left/right to avoid the trees.
  8. The trees are not on the boundary with the complaining neighbour, so I don't think the legislation would apply.
  9. Maybe there is no ladder, its more of a climb Often people wish to be groundies and have no desire to climb, I can guarantee there are a great many crews where one of the groundies is the highest paid person on site. In this industry people have to make themselves valuable, if you prove yourself to be of high value, i.e. you deal with problems when they arise, are good with customers and are able to just get things done with little fuss, you will be rewarded, people like this are rare, but once found most employers are very keen to keep them. As for a career as a climber, IMO the best climbers are born not produced through training, if you prove yourself to be the kind of climber who can be given any tree to deal with and just get it done in the time allotted with no drama you will be in demand.
  10. How many other industries do you have experience of?????? Its easy to find fault with employers, but comparing them with a government run organisation, that is funded by the tax payer is ridiculous, an arb firm could not possible afford to offer the same benefits as the armed services. And as for ending up with a "broken body" I've been climbing full time for 20 years and expect to be doing so for the next 20
  11. Don't knock it, the fact that many don't question the quote allows them to discount yours
  12. Could be the holidays Steve, plus the fact that things are fairly quiet work wise, but I find it hard to believe that no one locally has some coming up in the next couple of weeks. Could also be that people have seen the thread title and think its the same people after free chip. Luke would you like us to edit the thread title to include your area and the fact you are wanting to buy???
  13. Good personal hygiene is also important IMO, there few things worse than ridding in a truck with some one who smells like they need a good wash.
  14. Utter scum!!!!! I heard of a woman who was having a new kitchen fitted, they put her dishwasher outside (on her drive) while fitting the units, some scrott bags nicked it!!!
  15. The thing is there is an actual number of sweets in the jar, however there is not an actual correct price any job. I normally have the price I would like and the lowest price I would be prepared to do it for I generally end up somewhere between the two.

    Milk it

Drug addicts, the unemployed and alcoholic's are hardly good role models, if I had to be treated the same as them I would be truly depressed:thumbdown: Benefits are generally supposed to be a short turn fix to allow people to get back on their feet, to run a whole industry on them is IMO ridiculous.

    Milk it

Did any one watch that program with Huge Fernly-whitstow (sp) about broiler chickens, he wanted to stop the production of cheap chickens in favour of free range, 99% of people could not care less about who or what suffer in the production of their food, they just want cheap food. I honestly think that given the chance of saving farmers or saving 10p a litre on their milk, a huge proportion would go for the saving.
