  1. If the tree is gone, with no damage, how are they getting better value by paying you more to remove it ?? There are a great many very good professional firms who offer very good service at rates that, IMO, are far to low, but I could not in all honesty tell customer no to use them as they do good work. This idea that the more you pay the better the job is just nonsense, in fact often some of the more expense out fits do the worst work, IMO.
  2. I've climbed tree that felt different (in a bad way), but I've never really believed the tree was going to collapse, if I thought that and still carried on climbing it I'd be pretty stupid would I not?? I think its easy to feel afraid because the tree feels less solid than most trees, but that does not mean the tree is really likely to fail. I almost never rig trees, preferring to cut and chuck, I'm sure there is more danger rigging dead trees. I can only speak from my own experience, but I really hate reading post where people say how macho and brave they are for "risking their lives every day", because that really is not my experience.
  3. Of cause, what other reasons are their? You say have had many injuries, how log have you been doing tree work? I have only had one serious injury and that was totally my fault. I don't see how a tree can sneak up and hit you from behind
  4. What about flying down the road at 70/80MPH, in a lump tin, surrounded other lumps of tin, some weighing unto 44tonnes, all these lumps of tin are controlled by people of differing abilities and some are texting or make a phone call, some are elderly and infirm. I don't hear people heralding the heroics of the professional driver, for doing such a dangerous job. This IMO is far more dangerous than tree work, I much prefer being in control of my own environment, rather that relying on those around me to not cock up. In 20 years of tree work I have had one injury that kept me off work for a fortnight and that was down to my own stupidity. Quite a lot of what we do can be scary at times, but there is a big difference between scary and dangerous, I honestly believe that there are ways of making all of our work relatively safe.
  5. IMO, if its dangerous your doing it wrong, my son is just starting for me as an apprentice, if I thought it was dangerous I would not want him to do the job. Tree works not dangerous, but some of the people doing it are.
  6. They can't tell us what its going to do tomorrow, so I would put very little faith in any long-range forecast.
  7. Dave, did either company say how long they expected the job to take??
  8. She lost and went home, no story really, but then the mail will never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
  9. Jessica is a true champion, she did not need to win the 800M, she could have stayed in third position and still won the gold, but her pride and desire to be the best pushed her on !!! Inspirational stuff!!! These games are really showing all the wingers who say Britain has had its day and is a small player on the world stage, we have always been a great nation and continue to be so. We as always are punching way above weight!!
  10. I heard that since the cut backs they have started using those rings the put on lambs.
  11. This is also my experience, although THB I prefer to just give verbal quotes as I'm paperwork phobic. In the last 12 months I have only given a handful of written quotes and they were by email.
  12. 15 decent sized stumps would fill a skip on there own.
  13. Not so IMO, WE normally make the application, not the homeowner. I think going after work that others have gained content for is very, very low, IMO
  14. How very selfish, its not going to cost you anything, but would help others
  15. Do you know anyone who has had a claim denied due to some rule breech??
  16. Climbing alone is not a good idea, I can think of many reasons not to, but insurance would not be top of my list.
  17. How would a second climber prevent that?? Why would you not be tide in???
