  1. All working people already pay insurance, its called "National insurance contributions" if needs be this should pay the essentials. If you have a life style thats above the essentials and don't wish to give those things up if illness hits, you need to take out further insurance cover for that.
  2. Are all trees not in realty young, the "living" part is only a year or so old.

The 66 is the finest saw ever built, IMO
  4. An old cutter told me years ago that this is not a job, its a disease, once you get sawdust in your veins there is no escape. With any luck I'll be climbing into my 70's and beyond, I really have no desire to do anything else.
  5. As has been posted before by others, there are the Aldi's of this world, but there are also the M&S's. Decide who you want to be and target your customers accordingly

Just ask Dick He the man Or John.
  7. I think thats a setup the blond boy hold his arms ready to fall, just looks all wrong to me.
  8. TBH, condition is far more important than age.
  9. Your dealer should be able to tell you the year of manufacture from the serial number.
  10. This is very true, basically if the wholesale price of your raw material drops you can make the same or more profit (or at least pay yourself a decent wage, depending how you see it) while still retailing for less, thus increasing your customer base. Those who buy standing timber and the woodland owners could be hit hard by the Ash glut though.
  11. That seems miles out to me, the chip box on my mod holds around 7 cube and that full can weigh 3tonne.
  12. In 20 years of business not one domestic customer has asked about certs.
  13. While this may be true, there are far more who have had training and managed to pass the assessment for minimum competence who think they are the dogs do-dars, but in reality are of little if any commercial use and often dangerous.
  14. My 16 year old son started working with us a few months back, he worked out and used the stihl caps with no difficulty at all, he has not failed to fit the cap correctly once. Its really not complicated
  15. Utter rubbish!! How you can find it "ill balanced" is beyond me , I find the shape and handle shape a massive improvement, I was offered a new 200t or the 201t and chose the 201t because of the better balance and improved handle and switch. Has you 020 had a new pot and piston??? I change my climbing saw at least every 2 years, due to loss of power, an 020 most be very old and unless you do very little work it must be showing its age. I agree that the 540t is outstanding, but as its not available we need to operate in the real world.
  16. My 201t is a good saw, it can get a little bogged down in larger timber, I think is down to it struggling to clear the wood chips from the side case, this is partly due to the more aggressive full chisel chain, which removes bigger chips. I find with practice I can pace my cut in a way that allows the saw to cut big wood no problem. I dismantle trees down to timber well over guide bar length (14") before asking for my 460. I have a good 200t and the 201t and always use the 201t.
  17. I think most are 0.6 of a cube, but they do vary in size.
  18. Do you really think those guys need advice on what they are doing???????? I use strops, but TBH its mainly because chains are not good to handle in our cold climate, if I lived in a warm country I may well use them more. I have seen strops slip, surly its about test pulling before the cut, to check the strop or chain is secure, thats what I do
  19. Oil will be broken down by the petrol, so should easily be flushed through the carb (unlike water) I don't really see why the saw is not running, over the last 20 years there have been occasions where oil was put into the fuel tanks of my saws, but it was just tipped out, tank flushed with a little fuel and then refilled, they always started and soon ran fine, if a little smokey for a while.
  20. Hense the " ". But also it is perfectly acceptable to gain experience while under the supervision of a qualified person. Also I have never had any formal training for the use of chainsaws or tree climbing, I "taught myself" on private land in a none commercial capacity, so H&S at work legislation did not apply. I have subsequently taken and passed assessments in the relevant certificates. So it is possible to gain experience before certification perfectly legally, this is not the normal route, but perfectly possible
