  1. Principle 1 (Site grading) Distinguish between (a) individual woods of high conservation value, (b) woodland areas of high conservation value and (c) other wood-lands. Principle 2 (Management priorities) Afford special treatment to special sites and special areas. Principle 3 (Clearance) Minimise clearance. Necessary clearance should avoid sites and areas of high conservation value. Principle 4 (Afforestation) Accept afforestation, except on sites of high nature conservation value, but not so much that non-woodland habitats are reduced to small islands. Principle 5 (Woodland patterns) Develop (or retain) large blocks of connected woodland, whilst maintaining a scatter of small woods between large blocks. Principle 6 (Change) Minimise rates of change within woods. Principle 7 (Stand maturity) Encourage maturity by maintaining long rotations. If this is not possible, retain a scatter of old trees after restocking. Principle 8 (Native species) Encourage native tree species and use non-native species only where necessary. Principle 9 (Diversity) Encourage diversity of (a) structure, (b) tree and shrub species and (c) habitat in so far as this is compatible with other principles. Principle 10 (Regeneration) Encourage restocking by natural regeneration or coppice growth. Principe 11 (Rare species) Take special measures where they are necessary to maintain populations of rare and local species. Principle 12 (Records) Retain records of management. Principle 13 (Natural woodland) Manage a proportion of woods on non-intervention lines in order to restore natural woodland in so far as this is possible. Principle 14 (Traditional management) Maintain traditional management where this is possible and appropriate. Principles 15 ('modern' management) Where traditional management is not possible or appropriate, introduce alternative systems of management which retain or enhance the conservation value of special sites and areas.
  2. Tom, I haven't looked at the tree smart but what were your reasons for going with that instead of Pear?
  3. Staple them on, they won't go completely through the bark so no damage caused
  4. Altburgs are good
  5. Where abouts is the private message function, I can't find it any where!
  6. I think it was kirklees council that had them up, try adding to to your google search
  7. Pam Ayres is from Berkshire, and that's an old Berkshire accent that she has.
  8. Just google on line there's a few that come up, I've had a couple but can't remember who from. I thought you bought a really expensive coat not so long ado?
  9. Ah, that's a shame but in the long run having a workshop will probably work out better for you. I thought of you today as I was driving down a lane and saw a garage sale sign which said exotic wood! Are you able to get the train into Reading?
  10. Blimy Steve, how are you going to move all your timber? What a pain! Has the new house got a big drive for you? Lol
  11. Good idea but it's the chancers that ruin tipping sites by not sticking to the rules by leaving logs and rubbish in the chip. I used to use a couple of good ones that were shut because of that.
  12. That guy reminds me of jimmy Carr!
  13. It's 45p per mile for the first 10k then 25p per mile after.
  14. It's the pins that would worry me, wether they were lying on the floor or dropped in a bottle or can. If you often get jobs like that I'd look at getting some anti prick gloves.
  15. No it's not
  16. What was the damage that the roots were coursing to the property that the arborist identified?
  17. From watching judge Rinder yesterday about a guy who was pissed and flaked out on his mates sofa and then it the night pissed on it and wouldn't pay for its replacement he said that the minimum cost should be sought to rectify the damage so in this case she sofa owners initially tried washing it but is still smelt so they spoke to an upholstery cleaner who said they wouldn't be able to clean it properly as the urine had soaked the wooden frame inside so then the. New owners then went and bought a replacement. If the sofa could have been cleaned then that would have been the reasonable thing to do to do to rectify the damage, as this wasn't the case it was reasonable to purchase a new sofa. If the damage in the lawn can be invisibly repaired and this is the cheapest option then this is the first avenue that needs investigating. I'd write to them stating how you will go about rectifying the repair and then if they don't like it and want to take you to court for a whole. Ew lawn they may be looked on unfavourably as the lawn could be repaired for a much lower cost.
  18. These https://basc.org.uk/
  19. Hi Rob, slightly off topic but which cad software did you use to draw the design up with
  20. Have a look on business balls, they have quite a useful web site. It won't be specific but will be easily adapted.
  21. If you look on the AA website they have a list of all the quals and the type of position they are relevant to. If you can't find it I'll put the link up later as I'm just off out now.
  22. If it's a housing association it will more than likely be hazard tree inspections/reports and inspecting the standard of tree work that has been carried out. I would have thought that at a minimum Tech cert/L4/Fdsc leading to L6/Bsc.
  23. That looks pretty good!
  24. How about a bigger new threads button. Trying to tap it on the iPhone normally leads to either hitting private messages or my user profile.
  25. He's a top bloke, I worked with him with a tree company near reading.
