  1. I'd put money on damaged rope. The winch has a horrid habit of crushing its wire on the drum fraying the strands. Normally eats a cable a year.
  2. Oh yes. I know a guy who has a big scar on his face from a wire rope snapping on a mantidor. I've broken a steel cable on a 6.5t winch and that narrowly missed me as it came pinging back. I've broken 2 or 3 more out in the woods and not done myself or anybody else any harm. Took a big chunk out of a tree though.
  3. I want one. I plan on making a more wheel barrow version.
  4. MF 390 if you can get your hands on one but will be expensive. International, David Brown all old skool forest tractors but will do what you want. Lamborghini, Case and Zetor older models also could do what you want and for reasonable prices.
  5. You are right the P47 is a Thunderbolt. Twas an tiredness induced oversight on my part. They had a P38 as well hence the confusion. David if you go to the IWM Duxford website you can get guided tours of the other bits of the airfield. Which are very interesting they use to have loads of planes under tarps over there. Fortunately they're now in the hangers. It was heaving yesterday never seen so many people there. One of the reasons that put me off going for both days.
  6. Some pics from today. Hawker Sea Fury Republic P38 Thunderbolt Curtis P40 Warhawk Sadorsky S38 Fairy Swordfish
  7. Anybody else been today? I got there at 9 and left a 7 and had a fantastic day. Weather has been fantastic for the afternoon. I'll put some pics up in a bit when I've looked through my 3650 shots (yes you did read that right). It's on again tomorrow if you fancy going. Nice to see some living history.
  8. I've only ever had protector pros. They're great don't see a reason to change.
  9. I have arbortec chainsaw gloves which have gel pads in. Fantastic they make a real difference.
  10. What about this one? Epson Stylus Sx535Wd All-In-One Printer with Wifi and Double Side Printing (Print, Copy and Scan): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories It has the durabright ink that the good photo printers use. I have had many Epson Printers which i keep upgrading through the line. Currently got a P50 which is the best photo printer I've had to date. Not had a bad Epson printer yet. The HP i had was a little naff.
  11. Fantastic shots! Looks like a cracking job to do.

    Vandals

Thats sucks going to cost a fair bit too. Never had my tyres slashed but i've had girl friends windscreen broken outside my house. Somebody broke it with something and made sure all the glass was all over front seats. I think it was raining that night too. The company i use to work for had all sorts of things drawn on the van. It seems a big white transit van just screams "i'm a blank canvas write on me"
  13. A guy in Hemel Hempsted in Herts maybe able to help. Any good?
  14. In Finland 90% of timber measurement is done by the harvester computer so you have to be accuare. 4% error by volume mesured/displayed is set in law! Every day you have to cut test calibration bits. Measured by logger tape and diameters taken with calipers along the bits. The machine also keeps a record of stem profiles cut for future predictions. The computer will randomly want you to test a bit. Each species is calibrated so you can get it accurarte. My sawlogs were around +0.5% volume and +1.5% on pulp.
  15. I love this video. Saw it when it was first put up at the tree house. I wish i was as ace as that.
  16. John Deere - Nothing runs:thumbup:
  17. Whats this "spare time"?
  18. I'd think the poplar would start to go rotten if you left it stacked for more than a year. Make sure you stack it off the ground too. If everything is cut to say 2.4m and stacked nicely the forwarding should go quite quick with a good operator. If its all different lenghts crooked and poorly stacked then it will take longer as you get less on the trailer. As for cost if anywhere between £4-8 per m3. Off road our valtra is good on the fuel but take it for a little trip on the road at 32kph (it will go faster but you don't want it to). it drinks the fuel like it's free.
  19. Nice job getting it sorted. Looks like a lovely garden. Hope you informed all the relevent bodies with your river pollution:lol:
  20. Very Nice. Stenner 42 by any chance? What are offering for WRC?
  21. Thats awsome. Wish i hadn't scrapped that RSJ now.
  22. Wilsons? Give them ring and then send them the picture in an email. See what they say if they can't do them they may know someone who can.
  23. I really like the alpine with the trailer.
  24. What sort of tractor would you get? The Valtra A92 makes an abusolutly terrorable side arm flail tractor because of visability but it a very good little forestry tractor. Also if your mowing playing fields and school grass they might not want it cut with the standard pasture topper or swipe. So you may have to get a much more expensive cylinder mower. Verge cutting is also normally tackeled by farmers with big JDs with equally big flails so you'd be compeating against the guy with the kit and experence already. As for rates it's been a good few years since i did anything grass related for the council but i think 30p a square meter was the rate.
  25. I hear plasma rope is the nuts. The EA use it in all their winches and some of those are massive. Any reason you are going for rope over steel cable?
