  1. Yea it's a date will be etched into mind forever. Took a little while for it to sink it tried to lift the tree of the filter but that made it worse. Ended up having to cut my way out. Then had a sit down with quite a sicky feeling.
  2. To be honest Stu you'll have to pay me around 650 quid to take it off your hands Stick it on Ebay with a buy it now of 650 and it will be gone in a few days.
  3. A few more oops. Some BBC film set destruction Forestry style. Chop saw derailment (bearing broke) 390 bracken mowing fell down a bomb crater. Valtra to the rescue.
  4. Not had a really good look around it yet. I couldn't see a pressure relief valve on the grab on my quick look over. I fear it doesn't have one which is what caused the problem. I fear it may be the end of the rod.
  5. Good job no one was hurt. it's something that happens I've come close to tipping a tractor myself. I give you this picture. I wasn't driving but was on site. 1010 tipped over the nose fell down a hole left by stump harvesting. Second one was me. Larch extraction it had been raining for a few day and some good winds the day before. The weight of the forward dislodged the root plate and over the tree came hit the cab and then took off the oil filer on the crane and broke the rear lights.
  6. Hi Slight mishap with the log grab yesterday. Its an Albutt log grab. i caught one of the grabs on the top of a log while driving and there was a loud noise and now it doesn't open or close. It's not the on the tractor side as other buckets work on the aux circuit. So whats wrong there isn't hydraulic oil pissing out the cylinders and the top seals look good and the rods look straight too. What am i missing and whats wrong with it. Andy
  7. Seems about right. I'm with NFU. 28 5 years no claims B+E, pass plus all that stuff and i still pay about 1100-1200 quid a year. Thats social domestic & pleasure, commuting to place of work and carriage of own goods. Fully comp. 07 plate Navara double cab. It's nothing short of daylight robbery. Although to be fair my local NFU office is very helpful with the old pickup insurance. Pitty they're not so interested in PL.
  8. Check what the linkage will lift on a tractor data site. I'd of thought it would be fine but as said you'll want a few weights on the front. Our 390 would lift the 1000kg chipper but even if the weights on the front the steering was shall we say light.
  9. Might be able to help. I'll PM you details.
  10. UTO is thicker than regular hyduralic. It will be fine for a splitter but it doesn't work well in chippers as it's too thick. We have it in a 4345 and it works fine with the loader, 4 in 1 and log grab. I know you cant use UTO in a Valtra because of the wet breaks they sort of overheat and seize if you don't use ValtraTrans.
  11. Have you ever used the guy in Kent for JAKE parts Jerry?
  12. Are these the ones that lay their eggs in the eggs of wood wasps?
  13. Nice. What bells and whistles did you get on it? Just a word of caution if you take it near the woods guard the fuel tank! Unless you have the forest tank which is metal anyway. I know one guy who has punctured the tank twice.
  14. Haha I thought this was going to be about cutting kids hair. I was going to say how hard can it be we all cut trees/grass/hedges how hard can hair be/
  15. I use to sharpen at the end of every day with calipers. If one tooth was 6.53 then they all had to be. When i started using the saws a lot the habit did die hard but it did take a while to do every night. I sharpen 3 passes on one side 4 on the other and it wears quite evenly. Tend to just do it once a week now just to make sure it stays tip top. use to knock the burrs off the top plate and off the side of the hook with the wooden handle too. I'm not so sad anymore:lol:
  16. If your going to be doing a lot of milling get the bigger saw. If not then a 660 395 390 will be fine. I have a 660 with a 36" bar on it cuts well but with a 28-30 on it would be better. Most of the time it sits in the shed but its great to know it's there when there is a big fell to be done. I tend to do most of my big trees with a 576 18" bar with a cut in the front. It's good to know i've got the big saw back up though. Biggest tree i've done is 5' across was only 4' once the toes were off. Did it with the 3' bar but a 25 would have done. I'd go with a 395 if you can get on with the old chain break handle it's fantastic. I used them felling in Finland with 18" bars!
  17. Are we? You could of fooled me. Are dairy farmers happy people at the moment. I think not.
  18. Sorry chap. Utter scum who do this sort of thing. In fact the only people who are worse are the scrap dealers who are buying it. Herts & Bucks police have just raided a few scrap yards as a wake up call to the owners about dealing in stolen goods. No good for you but at least somewhere something is being done.
  19. That looks ace.
  20. Some fantastic trees at Hatfield House aren't there. I'd be interested to what you think of them and their management. To answer the original question chip up some well seasoned wood and see what comes out. Then try and smoke some wood yourself. I sold some Oak shavings from the planer/thicknesser to a guy for smoking. He said it worked well but i never got any of the pig.
  21. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Wt22dWau5Q]Auto Styling Truckman - Fuel Efficiency (Economy) Test Toyota Hilux - YouTube[/ame] Worth a watch gives some good info.
  22. Yes, yes i do.
  23. Well done:thumbup: just be pleased you don't have to do a CS33 to do all the really fun fells.
  24. I shall take a few more pics of how it works on the back axle. From what i remember it ties onto a mounting plate like the one on the front somewhere. Like i say guarding is bespoke. Both Valtras A92 have different guarding set ups and they were done in the same workshop by the same guy! I'm sure Arbwork will be in a second to say how his is different to mine, Stephen Blairs and Cosworths! Cosworth your guarding will be in the Wilsons style as you have a roof mount from them.
  25. Beat me to it:biggrin: Already a lot of good advice in this thread. Make sure you cut the rack first then fell into it as this will save you a lot of hassle. Remember prior planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance. If you can get a felling bench going all the better as that will speed things up a lot.
