  1. You should also remember that British 300tdi engines were no longer fitted from 1998 making the engine at least 15 years old. How many jap trucks are still on the road after 15 years, the last 5 of which have probably not had as much care in the way of servicing as previous. When looked after and serviced land rovers are not really any more unreliable than other marks Japanese or otherwise. in over 10 years of ownership of land rovers I've blown a half shaft and a transfer box. The only other problems are parts that wore out through heavy work which were replaced.
  2. I don't see a problem with address mine can be found right over the internet even though it ain't on my website. Google places puts a map to help people know where your company is based
  3. I run 13mm it doesn't self tend unless I have a significant amount of rope already hanging
  4. My thoughts would be an inclusion of some description particularly as sounding hasn't identified anything untoward but fibre buckling is still a possibility.
  5. Need to do my chapter 8 so I am a bit more covered for roadside stuff and also have a potential opportunity for a lot of stump grinding if I have chapter 8. I'm just a bit confused as to what training I really need.
  6. You need to work out your overheads im terms of your time, machine cost to run and maintain and to pay for. Also your insurance overheads etc. Only upu will no what your overheads are and how much profit you want to make off a job.
  7. One of mine is tweaked and on a standard box. Towing 3+ tonne will maintain 60+ without a problem and easy getting there. The other isn;t tweaked but has a lower ration box in and will maintain 50 loaded or otherwise. It ain't quick but will get there. For me tweaking the pump ain't about going quicker as such more about being able to maintain the speed and getting to it in a more efficient manner.
  8. Tweaking the pump will give a little extra smoke but it makes a huge difference to the performance just don't over do it.
  9. Pay by the load for transit and smaller
  10. Formby bypass on new causeway. It is just south of Formby.
  11. SMN Tree and Landscape Management are a local authority approved contractor based in Wigan working all over the North West. We are only a small company but have a varied workload of domestic and commercial clients, along with firewood and grounds maintenance work. We are looking for a trainee/newly qualified climber initially on a self employed basis for 2-3 days a week who can work alongside a lead climber and a groundsman. The job won't be all climbing there will be a lot of brash dragging involved as its all part of the experience but our aim would be to help develop you as a climber whilst providing back up and support for the lead climber. Ideally the right person for the job will have a minimum of CS30-31 and 38 as a minimum and preferably CS39. Pay would be negotiable on experience. I am not looking for an expert just someone with a good attitude and aptitude to for the job. Initial contact via pm please. Steve Nicholls
  12. Pulley works fine. I've a wire core with a 6 wrap prussic and pulley. On 4 wraps it seemed to slip on 6 works fine. Pulley works a treat.
  13. A lap top would cost you 100 quid for something that will do internet and word.
  14. even though the literal translation of the Latin is Jews ear.
  15. There is a pay site at kenyons lane culceth 20 quid a tip.
  16. You will learn step cut on 31. Spear cut isn't really a proper technique in terms of your 31
  17. I don't see the problem of being self employed and having sign writing on other peoples jobs. Builders do it, utilities companies so it etc etc. If people want me with my tipper it is sign written. One contractor I have a working in partnership sign on it as a compromise.
  18. I've took the angle grinder to mine on occasion
  19. Very rarely climb with gloves though I do like fingerless gloves if its a bit on the cold side. Think I have some dewalt fingerless gloves and they are ok
  20. Treelife ain't bad to get to. I go from Wigan doing the level 4. Set off at 6.45am and there well in time for it to start. Coming home can be a pain but am usually back by 7.30pm. Long day but well worth it
  21. They sound like the same two scrotes who have been having fun round upholland and skem.
  22. 7-9k is alot to spend on a van. You'll get something that looks right and probably will last well for less than 5k. I started out with a 800 quid van. Then progressed to a 4k ldv which was underpowered but looked right. Finance is good if you have work to pay for the finance. Likewise having the kit can generate work.
  23. I'll try and find exact quote. I know full well i wouldn't be using two ropes though i get one tangled enough.
  24. had i bought one so would i. It says do not cross load so try and avoid it. I certainly wouldn't have cross loaded it and repeatedly shock loaded the device to cause failure. I also think they are fantastic but then i was on a prussic before that.
  25. Pretty much every tree climber breaks the rules. Rope access work should be undertaken with two ropes one work line and one safety line both of which should be attached to the climber and long enough to enable easy rescue. What hse also state though if risk assessment justifies that one line is safer as two would hinder then use one and a work positioning strop. This has become best practice within tree work. srt is another technique which as ddrt has safety implications. Just select anchor points accordingly and don't cut your rope. Also use work positioning lanyard.
