  1. I probably do 4 hours or so a week. I just sit down and do it its amazing how much time I waste during the week in an evening. I've not really changed anything still find time for running and family. The only downside is its a day,I could be out earning money rather than being in a classroom but I see it as an investment for my future.
  2. There is a fair bit of work. I'm lucky as I've done a degree in the past so am used to study. Provided you ate motivated you could manage it. I've knowledge already from what I've picked up in the day to day running of my business and from my a levels 12 years ago. I've done nothing specific prior to the course but general reading around tree biology wouldn't go a miss
  3. One is the ford at Kenilworth by the looks of it where is the other
  4. 17 may not be as bad as you think then. Narrow winding lanes ain't the best for fuel economy. Mine is a mix of road types.
  5. I'm doing it at syston in Leicester. Its a trek for me from wigan about 2hours on a good run. Sessions are about every 2-3 weeks. I'm a self employed arborist and wish to expand my horizons and do more in the way of consultancy work. I'm looking to the future when I am fed up of climbing in the wind and rain I can do surveys whilst I send someone else to do the hard graft
  6. Have you asked the manufacturer if there are any they recommend?
  7. Driving like an old man may not help. Mine is an h reg tdi and am returning 25mpg loaded and towing. I'm also not that light with my foot. Learn to anticipate the need for gear changes to keep revs optimum. Btw 17mpg does seem low
  8. Currently doing my level 4 at treelife well worth doing in my opinion
  9. That trunk on the beach will have come down a river in flood then been washed up during a high rough tide like we've been having. It shows how resilient fungi is though
  10. For yourself or selling on? We have a fair amount of semi seasoned split wood depends what you require
  11. Is it a combined oil cooler radiator. Also likely to be a genuine part hence the price
  12. I've a 110 tipper that is over 20 years old its not broken down and it gets worked hard. I had a newish LDV which cost me a fortune to keep running. With a 10k budget you should be able to get a well sorted second hand truck whatever you go for. Think about where your business may be in a few years time and what your area is like for working. Is it all road or like me will you end up driving accross fields.
  13. Just been in contact with someone with regards a windblown tree in se22 sydenham. Tree leaning on house. We are a bit far north any one want to look and price then contact me asap on 07970521692 and will give you the contact number
  14. That is the way I do it. Thankfully I've rarely had to prune Lombardy pops so mostly its off spikes in take downs
  15. As an ex physio it sounds very much like tennis elbow to me.
  16. PM me you e-mail and I'll send you a copy accross
  17. I've run my 441 with a 25 before. It does it without too much fuss. Wouldn't want to do it all the time as run a 660 with a 30 and the 441's on 20's.
  18. I've 2 441's and they get some serious abuse. Had no problems and I'd happily have another
  19. Mines about 950 for a combined policy of 5mil PL 10mil EL, 25k of tools and 500k professional indemnity. the PL is around the 300 mark as is the EL. To me the cost is 2 full days work hardly a massive sum when you think of the damage you can do
  20. My take on them not growing upwards after a heavy reduction will be down to removal of significant amounts of dynamic and static mass and hence upsetting the dynamic and potential energy ratio. The tree will still be creating energy but for a period it may struggle to produce enough to promote excessive growth. Once even the smallest amount of upward growth occurs then auxins will cause each new leader to compete and as a result you will end up with rapid growth upwards. This may only take a year or may take 5. We have reduced conifers where they've put on 6 feet of growth in a couple of years and others very little. That's my take anyway.
  21. I've done countless conifer reductions only once managing to kill off a hedge but the reason for that was the clients insistance that the hedge be trimmed hard back when the temperatures were -10. If it had just been topped then I am sure it would have survived. The reason conifer hedges end up so wide is the sides aren't trimmed yearly following reduction.
  22. I don't think sap is that much of an issue on the flip line. So much so i had to add an extra wrap to stop it slipping. I do a lot of conifers and flip line rarely if ever has sap issues. My main line is another thing though
  23. I've started using mine as my landyard all the time. I had a 5m rope one before but was getting tired so just put my wirecore on. Its a bit heavier but to be honest makes little difference
  24. My lanyard is on a prussic with a micropulley. One hand adjust and can under load.
  25. Is this a bit of a spam post shamelessly plugging ones own business. Me thinks so.
