  1. Probably right , hogue are usually stamped underneath the grip, it could be anything as I brought it secondhand and the only mod I was made aware of was the sound moderator so thought it was standard … I don’t know much about it’s history but it was the only second hand 243 700 near me when I was looking so jumped right on it… I will tear it down and rebuild it to something I want if I ever get time but it does every thing I need and has a tight group unlike my cz that seems to be the most inconsistent gun I’ve fired and the things supposed to be like a lazer in 17hmr.
  2. It’s just the standard sps hogue stock, so I’m not sure I don’t know enough about them… I will at some point maybe upgrade the whole thing as my misses won’t let me buy any more guns 😆 I see there are plenty of DM kits for the 700’s so will probs go down that route , just like the idea of a 5 round mag and going out with a closed bolt instead. putting a few rounds in and having to take them out every time I go out seems to be damaging the tips of ammo which I’m convinced is harming accuracy. It’s the only one locally I have not been too but I will go one day, I usually use Bradford stalker or bywell for guns and ammo.
  3. That’s really nice , did you buy it already converted ? … I was thinking today I really fancy a 308 or maybe a mag conversion for my 243 so didn’t need to see this. My 243 getting a clean for a stalk tomorrow.

If you don’t have any self loathing or are not on the autism spectrum I would forget it too .. they seem to be essential qualities in making a good tree worker I’ve noticed over the years.

    Career Change

I’ve had two lads go on and join the marines and one told me it was a piece of piss after doing production climbing and arb work.. I’m currently working with a lad who started last year at 44 after working as civil servant doing pensions his whole life , he loves it but He also loves going in a cage and fighting and getting his face smashed in at the weekends, to be fair when we got to 2.30 today after been pissed on by the weather all day and scrambling around and getting torn up in brambles trying to carry slippery brash and logs he still didn’t mind dropping another 5 trees.
  7. A few picks of the overall crown would give a better indication of what’s going on with the tree.
  8. I think that’s because the Germans and French and Europeans know how to manage there woodlands and pests , I saw my last red here in 2015 and it was dead , there was a big move to cull greys in the area but as likely there where idiots who would not let there woods be culled , the result was the culls where a waste of time and all the young trees they planted themselves are knackered, I can’t actually bring myself to talk to this one person/family and ignore any calls or messages as I just can’t be bothered to deal with people like that in regard to there tree management… last time I went on one of there sites I was trying to show and explain the squirrel damage on a belt of trees and I might as well of talked to my dog .. even the obvious maple and snapped sycamore branches with stripped bark over our heads was not enough evidence.
  9. I usually climb On a 45m x static although I do have a 60m one .. to be honest I don’t find it that bad and it does some in handy for setting isolated anchors instead of base… you just set the working end to ground height and pull harder on retrieving 😆
  10. Another one for xstatic , the non ce cougar blue is a very good rope , feels like a more traditional rope in hand all though the xstatic seems to feel better for ascenders and is lighter but is more brutal on your hands.. but it’s not as bad as some as the cheese wire on the market, it’s a nice compromise I think. has velux for me … although mine needs replacing so watching this thread.
  11. My experiences of running aspen alongside normal fuel are bad.. personally I would not do it as normal fuel dissolves carb diaphragms aspen will clean and then they harden off resulting in then needing replacing and carbs cleaning to make run again…. Just running a two stroke mix like the huskyxp will keep your cylinder virtually clean unlike say the red stihl.
  12. Good points but I feel most of the rigging we do in the uk is over areas that will require lifting over targets as it’s so built up… you can’t beat natural crotch rigging in a lot of scenarios and especially in big open areas with one or two targets but I don’t find it applicable to especially urban built up settings in which most uk arbs seem to work. personally myself, the last rigging I did was natural crotch as it saved bringing out and setting up a whole lot of gear to avoid a dry stone wall to balance a tree for felling, it was all I used for the first ten years of my career with maybe only a topping strop as been the only other hard wear on stems .. I never really got all the bling until I watched a subby climber use pulleys to swing stuff up and over HV lines and the bulk of my work changed from street and park trees and was more crappy sycamores/ash and leylandii in back gardens that needed removing in to 3m square drop zones, which is probably what most are dealing with so more applicable ?
  13. Said he’s away in his last post ? Sure he will get back!
  14. Was gonna edit my other post but I think it’s the 3001 that can have the winch fitted and not the 2001….. I still have an old 2001 and it’s dead simple to use but I’ll take a Hobbs type bollard for most big rigging so you can pre tension as much as possible to lift off and float rather than shock load constantly which is the key in my view for smoother large rigging.. could never justify a GCRS and the time taken to train staff to use and I’d probably drop a lump on it anyway !
  15. I think the 1000 and 2000 is a step up from a capstan though .. tree runner looks nice , I don’t know if I would be tempted to go for the 2001 so you could update with a ratchet for pre tensioning or lifting later on if you had the need .. for my light rigging I stick to 10mm lines and a small capstan though, all fits in a bag and is a nice weight and takes 2 mins to set up.
  16. No worries … in my past experiences usually the rigging sling will be the one to go first if not up to the job.. just looking at current rigging kit you’re spoilt for choice on pulleys!! but you can’t go wrong with the dmm impact blocks , I’ve never found the need to use more than the small as it’s as strong as the large ISC blocks although there new 200 range looks like it would give the dmm a run for its money on the specs… also see dmm have an ultra small now too… could be handy from the bending the large pintos that get dragged in to service. never used the gliestein ropes though as I’ve always just stick with EB for years as I’ve found them pretty indestructible but don’t spend the money if your going to use them for natural crotch rigging!
  17. I’m a big fan of the English braids 16mm lowering line… I would up your pulley sling to 22mm … I’ve not managed to break the 16mm EB line yet rigging but I’m pretty sure I would snap a 16 multi sling on that set up. If funds allow get the rc2001 bollard but the 2000 is not bad and beats a regular capstan. If your only rigging light go for a 10mm line , 14mm and lighter pulley and a capstan. medium rigging a 14mm line , 16mm for the pulley and stick with the 2000. If funds allow get a safe block or a safe block and a capstan for bigger stuff and bin the dmm pulley and RC2000… either way a safe bloc is nice on dodge trees as your not doubling the forces on rigging points as you would with a pulley.. I often use it for the sketchy half dead stuff then put a capstan on for rigging out big timber once it gets too much for the safe block alone.
  18. Just looks like a sharp saw to me in green oak, it’s not tearing through… even a plastic clam engined saw will cut well with a decent chain on.
  19. Whilst I half agree with Kevin, monbiot seems to wish the last part of non intensive agriculture is replaced with rewilding .. if there is any rewilding it needs to start in the low lands not in the wilds… I actually can not stand monbiot myself.
  20. What ever happened to Vespasian or the dude who told the story of how he got a boner in his white chinos and made a mess of himself thinking it was something every one did until he posted said story?
  21. Thanks I owe you a pint or ten !! I initially tried that but put the bar on the underside of the right🤦‍♂️ When it came off just now… I didn’t mark where the pulley was , I can’t see that it matters but was told too… any way I found two thiny marks that match on the crank and then on pulley which I’m guessing if kubota wanted it in a certain place this is what they are.
  22. Basically it just turns the engine over in either direction ?
  23. I have no idea what direction it turns when running !!
