  1. I would not even attempt to grow carrots unless under fly netting now.
  2. Nice pair of sea trout !
  3. Well one good things happened this week then... I almost cracked a smile.
  4. Your wheelie bin poses more risk to your children statistically... get a professional tree report... Arb association approved contractors list is a good place to start.
  5. 80cc saw that's the same weight of a 70cc saw , what's not to like? Any one I know who has had a 572 or 462 prefers the 500i , 462 is a great saw but I haven't really picked it up since the 500i
  6. £500 for every 200 tubes and stakes , probs cheaper to fence ?
  7. I would also add that rod bracing young and vigorous oak and chestnut will still work, it seems though that older specimens from my experiences don't seem to have the ability to callus over quick enough and they react with the metal.
  8. Nothing wrong with rod bracing , I've never seen an infected tree?? I've seen screw bolts from cables pull on woods that the Tannin in woods like oak and chestnut after they reacted badly and not callus though..... I would use cobra for those species but elm seems to swallow any thing it comes in to contact with.. bracing ideally wants to be 2/3rds up the limbs being braced. But back to rod bracing I've seen and the ones I have done have been very successful over the years.
  9. No offence but f that ! Tirfor or cheap copy works very well with an Ifor trailer and metal ramps for parbucking , feels relatively safe and works well.
  10. Aye **************** cutting hedges .. I used to be like a human flail and could cover serious ground hedge cutting... these days I try it and rip the ligaments in my shoulders after two hours so I've given it up this year as I could not climb for two months at the beginning of the year after a hedge cutting injury, boring thankless and low paid and hedge cutters seem to be the most temperamental machines so I see no point in doing them now... I'll only climb 3 days a week now but will do a lot of trees in those days and to be fair I'd probably not be doing that if it was not for SRT.
  11. Most of the young lads I have in for a few days as labourers are self employed and can work for it ? What's the difference , I get sick of hearing kids these days don't know how to work.. work in the last Century was mostly done with a hang over as the pub culture ruled ... I think folk look at with rose tinted glasses.... like 200ts .... just saying....
  12. I suppose England really was great in the 70's -80's a load of pissed up paddy's badly building houses , all UK major industries on the verge of collapse because the work force felt like work owed them a job, hang on doesn't sound any different today really does it??
  13. I thought all pto winches ran at 540?
  14. I'd be wary of getting any hydraulic pto as they seem to come in higher speeds ...There's a hydraulic pto moter on my alpine mounted on the front.. I've disconnected it at the seals on the front spline went and also it was 1200rpm so only suitable for mowers and would of been dangerous for a winch !
  15. I guess it depends on the site but with either if it's wet you need boards to not destroy the clients garden but if it's just for shifting vast quantities of materials the loader every time.. I could get by and do with out a digger but I would not give up the loader !
  16. Bacho p34-37 in my view the best I've used. You can get an adapter to fit aus poles or use bachos own ... may take a bit of searching on the web and don't get the smaller version !!
  17. Probs should not post this but I'm not surprised it's not got much interest .... I'm not a cabinet maker or owt but I'd rather use any other material than non native endangered trees , native British timber has some appeal I think to folk as they can associate with it, maybe the appeal grows especially if it's been up cycled from dead , fallen or diseased or folk know the history of that particular bit of timber but using African hard woods always felt like hanging up a rhinos head or some thing to me, just does not sit well .... not having a dig or owt but that's it's appeal to me anyways......
  18. Loving the shade mate ! I think I'll go back to a full set... where are you getting the bearings from at that price ???
  19. Strangely though it seems to work and surprisingly well .... I'm in the predicament of getting a new set of yellow jackets and do I get a pocket and a few spares and go back to a full set of teeth ... but it seems to be stupidly fast with less teeth... much courser longer chippings... started on this in the afternoon ... threw a tooth and with the snapped bolt in the pocket so just took the opposing tooth off ....started getting worried that was it I would have to pull the machine out and call it a day as it looked a nightmare and it absolutely smashed it and I thought I would be there all afternoon ! Just worried it's going to kill the bearings very quickly!
  20. A year after changing the teeth to yellow jackets On our Vermeer 252 I've ended up with jus 4 teeth.. I've regularly checked the teeth pockets but still seem to be loosing them but have ended up with this configuration , it actually seems to work better than the Vermeer recommended set up but I'm concerned it could shorten bearing life any views on this subject ?
  21. What about the stupid smirking self important idiot who's reading you your rights when you know there is no roost in that tree? I'm entitled to be pissed off , having my site and job shut down when it's bloody obvious where if any bats that have been detected are and will be.. I've had this happen four times now , it used to be that I enjoyed carving bat holes and making monoliths , coronets etc.... I think after dealing with these folk in the ways that I have and situations of the trees and there risks of failure I really can't be bothered any more..
  22. Got to say on top of that I hate so called bat experts , when working a tree nothing pisses me off more than some dick head turning up and reading me my rights and going on about bats in the tree.... do you really think I'm that stupid to risk getting a 10k fine for disturbing a bat roost ?! Or don't have the experience and knowledge my self to know where and what a active roost may consist of ..... Then having the site closed down to find out hey guess what there where no bats in the tree ... does not matter that the trees a willow that's shit itself over a primary school playground and class rooms , or a beech that's split over a heavily used footpath and ancient monument it's only important so these so called experts who get off on smelling there own farts and and justify there years wasted on a degree and there ridiculous salary's ...you can take your endo scopes and shove them where the Sun don't shine....
  23. I'm against DW pines , cedars unless it's over very high risk targets ... have seen many fail days/weeks after they have been over the years and some quite catastrophic ... wind tunnels as well so areas before not being penetrated and allowing different movement so yes pretty much.
  24. I agree 100% with mick on dead wooding them , the fracture looks about the same age as the previous pruning..if it was my spec job I would reduce that limb taking off most of the upright section... don't remove it ! if you can find a decent Arb to do a light reduction on the rest of the crown at the same time it would not go a miss.
