  1. Didn't know we had so many sasquatch on the forum !
  2. Looks like ash , oak, sycamore , beech maybe some willow ... either way it looks like it's come straight off being processed with some greener than others.
  3. Can't see pictures at all , ..wood is supposed to be 20% if sold in less than 2m quantities I'd tell them to pick it up and refund you , would be interesting to see if you can get them prosecuted, maybe ring woodsure for advice.
  4. Both good saws ... 400 has the edge for me though. Better anti vibes on the rear handle , more torque.
  5. Yes Steve I think it's longer maybe 10 and it was at least 10 years old then I think ! , still going strong when it's needed but the 500i has taken the bulk of its work and given it an easier life
  6. Stick with 3/8s then .. ideally 404 would be better for milling but that's only my experience from using it on 880's and 3120's , always ran my 395 on 3/8 as it was my go too big removal saw and was easier to buy a reel of 3/8 and have chains ready for that and every other saw down to a climbing saw ready with out the hassle of a trip to a shop.
  7. Should be the same as it's the 395's replacement but if not a fraction more in terms of power out put I would of thought.. despite folk winging about new saws not being as good as the ones they have replaced I've always a found the opposite and usually more user friendly especially in terms of anti vibes and fumes which is a plus when milling.
  8. Have not used one but if it's husky's replacement for the 395 I don't see why a 36" would not work , I did a lot of milling with the 395 on a 36 and a 28" bar as you said would be restrictive.
  9. 7.5 toners would be nice but there is enough uproar about parking a ford transit in the street in some places.. will probably be short lived anyway as they will probably ban all diesel vehicles and plant with engines in two years time any way.
  10. Well as of today life has become easier for us !! New rules for towing a trailer with a car from 16 December 2021 - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK The rules about towing a trailer or caravan with a car changed on 16 December 2021. Find out how the changes affect you.
  11. I've just milled loads for stud walling , wished I'd saved it for cladding looking at Big J's pics though.
  12. Aye ,I know of a lad around here who put his hand in a missing inspection cover for the blades on a TW150 as it was running to see what would happen or what was in there .. [emoji51] I think that's a different thread though on the ability's of nptc trained folk...
  13. In all honesty though Pete would you give some one a job who was capable of doing something as retarded as that? or let any where near a wood chipper in the first place.
  14. I'd go circular saw every time over chain saw .. markets good for secondhand machines I would of thought at the minute.
  15. That's pretty much how we run ours, the turbine is great when there is wind but I'll be honest it's not regular.. when we had the storm a few weeks back and was going mad it quickly got to 100% and stayed that way for a while as the inverter had to dump most of it but it gave them a better top up than the genny! All washing machines and appliances got a good work out ! I remember one year one of the springs snapped on the blades and we had to put the break on and lower the tower, was fun when the small tirfor I was using shat itself .. should of got the bigger one on t he case. We cook and heat off wood though I would not be surprised if we burnt 1.5 cube a week in winter if some one was in the house all the time... I can spend do days a year by myself on the processor rattling out 50 crates I recon that would feed just the house.
  16. Look good to me , is it worth more white and no spalting ?
  17. Even if we did get put on mains I could guarantee it would be one week before either a logging truck ,harvester/forwarder or wind blow spruce took it down again too... to me it's worth the hassle , you can't use certain appliances but it does 5 bedrooms 6 out buildings and barns , two big chest freezers and water pumps for boreholes, heating and biomass boilers , so it's a lot to ask but not having any one around you for miles is worth it.. after the recent storm I was great full too , no one had power for weeks up here.
  18. 160k to get put on mains ... one alcoholic fuc wit engineer that can not even program an inverter properly it's a bit frustrating.... no one knows what they are doing up here and charge the earth for it.
  19. On paper or salesmen tell you that ?
  20. We need to upgrade our pv's as they are 20 years old but run a largish turbine and geny to a victron inverter and battery bank , I guess the genny is going off every two days if there is no wind , it can be a week in summer.. I'm not overly happy with our set up as the genny should kick in if the battery gets below 50% but it usually plunges us in to darkness at around 65% , my phone is sporadic in when it wants to connect to victron and gives false readings like yesterday it was saying it was 61% and would not let me connect to the board to turn it on remotely so got in to a panic about getting back and the genny on but when I did it was reading 81% ! Luckily there is some one here all the time so it's if no real concern but I would love to find some one to set it up properly ... and install more PV's as our engineer is useless at best. Bill Peirce on here has a good set up and it didn't cost him the earth , also he can use an electric kettle and dishwasher which is like black magic too me !
  21. I'd try and get a job with them clearing trees even if it's all ground work would be a quick way in ... , they are going to be very busy for a while, will give you hands on experience on what trees fail , where and why they fail and how common it is within certain species .. would give you a good starting block for your career.
  22. That's all that could be said about it in my view..
  23. Check your krabs then check them again when they are in use and that all is functioning , any are liable to fail or stick no matter what make, I've had nearly new DMMs fail on me ... but as for the isc snap locks ....I'd never use a snap lock of any make any way , can't stand the things.
  24. 2000 isn't a bad device, better than a porter wrap maybe not far off a fixed ratchet strapped bollard in terms of keeping slack out of big lumps... 16mm line would handle most trees with it.
