  1. The only thing that beats a bad meme are those tragic I am an arborist t shirts or those Wolf printed bomber jackets that the bloke from the fair wears... Mark do your worse mate I know you have some of the finest arborist t shirt designs stored on your phone !
  2. I've been running a 395's on a 36" bars for years on 3/8 never felt under powered or lacking torque and still quicker in the cut than the 120cc saws.
  3. The protos reminded me of one of those forestry helmets From the 80's where the ear muffs continually fell off offered poor hearing protection overall whilst being sweaty and heavy... but maybe the protos is worse with its quintuple price. Sorry lads but my experience of this lid is it's like the emperors new clothes, every one raves about it as it has a stupid price tag but the reality is it's crap.

    Felling wedges

With the plastic instead of Wöod inserts you can also get from Clarkes these would be my first choice. https://www.clarkforest.com/shop/forest-garden/felling-wedges/plastic-handle-for-high-lift-wedges
  5. Probaly the best thing I ever did ,if you climb a lot of large trees you will double your out put and and feel less fatigued and be more productive once you get used to it, no drag at all is some thing that also makes it . If most the trees you climb have easy access are not very tall I think it's hard to find or see the benefits straight away as like I did as my zk2 sat in the bottom of my climbing kit for years.
  6. I'm sticking with my wrench and srt mate , just trying to point out to the OP the dangers of the ropeman as part of a primary life support for your climbing set up. I can see the advantages of an extending bridge though drt but it's a very grey area on what's safe to use some thing I'm no expert on at all.

    Pole Chainsaw

Thought the km130 was a 4mix engine though.

    Pole Chainsaw

Get the valves on the 130 adjusted and it should sort the idling out it did with one of mine. I think it's pretty easy you just need a feeler gauge and new gasket.. apparently the newer 4 mix don't need it as much or at all.

    Pole Chainsaw

4 mix engine Mick , it runs on two stroke but is basically a 4 stroke engine with valves, the valves have a tendency to break if not serviced according to my old dealer and they should be adjusted every so many hours but there is no timer.. I guess if you have them serviced by a Stihl dealer every 6 months they should last.

    Pole Chainsaw

Looks that it is .. must of been wish full thinking on my part.

    Pole Chainsaw

I thought they had stopped the 4 mix engines? I would not buy another either Ian.
  12. Fair enough .. If you think about the tests with the ropeman actually this could work as you would want the carabiner to fail first any way.. there is a 5-6" drop to the stopper. The xrse is rated at 4kn.. maybe too much.
  13. It's not supporting anything Ian as the ropeman is biting and stopping against the ring alsothe bridge is still backed by a stopper, I would have to bin it for an dmm xsre though
  14. Think this is the one on augusts /samurai Joe's belt http://yoke-niagara.com/n-660/ Good link on the shizzle ! I've not yet found a use for mine.
  15. No worries mate it's probably not what you want to hear though , I would still use one for work positioning if I had too and did for years but would not have it on my primary system !

    Pole Chainsaw

I've got a husky long reach hedge cutter that's been abused and it's been good. Our pole pruner is an ancient Stihl that's only brought out a few times a year but it replaced an echo that I didn't think much too as it kept breaking every time it was used fully extended.

  18. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/23156-wild-country-rope-man-2-a.html Original thread. Take a look at august hunickes YouTube channel as he's put done a lot of experimenting with adjustable bridges for his new harness .. its a very grey area though in terms of finding a suitable adjuster I still don't think there is one but possibly A kong duck or ropeman mk3 may be a better option as 4kn is not a lot!
  19. Copied from another link that I posted years ago from arb talk .... sorry I forget the source , it was probably the tree buzz forum though. The Ropeman fell from grace with tree climbers following a number of tests conducted by concerned safety authorities, the HSE in England in particular. Ideally a 'rope clamp', like a prussic knot, should slide on the rope when somewhere between 2.5 kN and 6 kN of static force is applied - the Ropeman didn't slip at all and severed the rope sheath completely at 4 kN. (See table below - Ropeman HSE Review available for download here - full HSE Report here). Not an encouraging test result for Wild Country! It's thought the Ropeman's sheath severing ability is due to the aggressive horizontal tooth pattern on the cam and the way the cam utilizes the relatively thin bar of the carabiner as a base for the cam when its under load. To be fair, Wild Country responded to these concerns and developed the Ropeman II which is a significant improvement over the Ropeman I on thinner diameter ropes - 8.5-11mm.
  20. Nice I used to use a rope man on my side strop, one thing to bear in mind and why I stopped using it was it was found on drop tests it would cut through a rope! I think that would make me feel very uncomfortable having it on my main line now.
  21. You can use a haas and pantin combo drt ,it would be my choice if I had to make a long ascent drt with nothing to body thrust off.
  22. Empire strikes back and the blues brothers , two of my favourite films of all time.
  23. I've been watching and hoping it would not, many people's child hood princess , there was cheers when she appears in rouge one when we where at the cinema ... gutted.
  24. Why david brown instead of the Finnish valmet / valtra tractor ?
  25. Looks a hell of a machine that tractor !
